{"id":257606,"date":"2021-11-22T14:44:17","date_gmt":"2021-11-22T20:44:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=257606"},"modified":"2021-11-22T00:03:55","modified_gmt":"2021-11-22T06:03:55","slug":"supreme-court-dobbs-mississippi-abortion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/supreme-court-dobbs-mississippi-abortion\/","title":{"rendered":"Pro-life groups seek to educate Americans ahead of abortion-related Supreme Court case"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As the U.S. Supreme Court prepares to hear a Mississippi abortion <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/supreme-court-potential-challenge-roe-wade\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">case<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that could challenge the 1973 <\/span><em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/tragic-decision-behind-roe-wade-disastrous-health\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Roe v. Wade<\/span><\/a><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> ruling that legalized abortion through all nine months of pregnancy, pro-life groups are rolling out a series of campaigns to educate Americans about abortion.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments for the Mississippi\u00a0<i>Dobbs v. Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization<\/i> case on December 1. The case centers around the 2018 <a href=\"http:\/\/billstatus.ls.state.ms.us\/documents\/2018\/pdf\/HB\/1500-1599\/HB1510SG.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gestational Age Act<\/a>, which restricted abortion to the first 15 weeks of pregnancy, except in cases to save the life of the mother or in cases of poor prenatal diagnosis. (Intentionally killing a preborn child is <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pro-life-replies-abortion-never-medically-necessary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">never medically necessary<\/a>.) The Court will have to consider whether or not states can enact pre-viability restrictions on abortion, a decision that could redefine or undermine <em>Roe<\/em>\u2019s standard for <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/roe-wade-viability-later-gestation-medical\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fetal viability<\/a>.\u00a0In anticipation of the Court hearing oral arguments for <em>Dobbs<\/em>, multiple pro-life groups \u2014 Created Equal, the Pro-Life Action League, Citizens for a Pro-Life Society \u2014 have assembled to form the <a href=\"https:\/\/overturnroe.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Overturn Roe<\/a> coalition.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Members involved in the coalition plan to gather outside the Supreme Court as well as other federal sites and government buildings across the country to advocate for <em>Roe<\/em> to be overturned. The groups will display banners bearing the message, &#8220;Abortion takes a human life&#8221; over highway overpasses.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Already, there are 75 rally events and highway banner campaigns scheduled to take place in 26 states, with new locations being added daily.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/S-lQOooYAs8\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eric Scheidler, Executive Director of the Pro-Life Action League, told Live Action News that one of the campaign\u2019s goals is to let the Supreme Court know, \u201cWe don&#8217;t accept this, we&#8217;ve never accepted it and that we have got their back and we want them to know that there&#8217;s a massive movement out there among the American people that is ready to receive an overturning of this horrible precedent.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThis is a country that&#8217;s supposed to be virtuous,\u201d said Scheidler. \u201cAnd since 1973, we have allowed our society to be more and more and more founded on the slaughter of innocent children.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scheidler went on to say that the impact of legalized abortion on the culture has been \u201chorribly corrosive.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWomen who have been told your freedom, your liberty, your pursuit of happiness depends on your ability to destroy the life of your own child \u2014 that&#8217;s a horrible message to send to women,\u201d he said. \u201cIt&#8217;s a horrible message to send to a man that you can get out of the responsibilities of fatherhood, the responsibilities that you take on when you get involved in a sexual relationship with a woman.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scheidler emphasized that the upcoming Dobbs case is \u201cnot just something happening in Washington, D.C., far away in the capital for the lawyers and the experts and the court watchers, the policy wonks.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is something, this is a moment for every pro-life American to get involved, to be a part of making history, really inviting our fellow pro-life Americans to really be an active part of this historic moment.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9VHXOeGKehY\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/15-week-old-human-being-womb\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>What does a 15-week-old human being in the womb look like?<\/em><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sba-list.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Susan B. Anthony List<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, another prominent pro-life group, has also seized the opportunity to educate Americans about abortion and life inside the womb in anticipation of the Court hearing oral arguments for the Mississippi abortion case.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cScience continually affirms the humanity of unborn children. By 15 weeks, children in the womb have fully formed noses and lips, eyelids and eyebrows; they can suck their thumb, and even feel pain,\u201d Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser said in a statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/581788-anti-abortion-group-rolls-out-25-million-ad-campaign-ahead-of-scotus-case?rl=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Hill<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the pro-life group announced a $2.5 million television and digital ad buy. As part of its $10 million ad campaign, the Susan B. Anthony List will air three ads on broadcast and cable stations in Washington, D.C. on major networks, such as CNN, Fox News, ABC, NBC, CBS, CNBC, and Newsmax.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each of the ads is reportedly one minute in length, featuring the stories of a woman who was adopted, as well as an OB-GYN and a family practitioner.
