Shortly after the abortion pill was approved, women <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-pill-dangerous-safety-requirement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">began dying<\/a>.* In years since its approval (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/media\/112118\/download\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">between 2000 and 2018<\/a>), the abortion pill has\u00a0ended the lives of nearly four million <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/baby-olivia-proves-abortion-pill-kills-living-human-beating-heart\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">preborn children<\/a> and has caused thousands of serious\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/16380436\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">adverse effects<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How the abortion pill came to the United States<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In 1992, <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/roe-v-wade-abortion-pill-eliminate-poor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ron Weddington<\/a> \u2014\u00a0a co-counsel for the plaintiff in\u00a0<em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/1992\/09\/27\/books\/she-put-the-v-in-roe-v-wade.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ex-husband<\/a>\u00a0of\u00a0<em>Roe<\/em>\u00a0attorney Sarah Weddington \u2014 wrote an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/roe-v-wade-abortion-pill-eliminate-poor\/\">open letter<\/a>\u00a0to the Bill Clinton administration recommending that the president \u201celiminate\u201d certain segments of\u00a0society via abortions, the RU-486 abortion pill (mifepristone or Mifeprex), and other means.<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/population-council-founded-eugenicists-promoting-abortion-turns-65\/\">1993<\/a>, President Clinton\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/video\/?37335-1\/abortion-rights-medical-research-orders\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">signed<\/a>\u00a0an executive order directing the FDA to expedite marketing of RU-486.\u00a0In 1994, his administration pressured the French pharmaceutical\u00a0manufacturer Roussel-Uclaf to assign the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.accessdata.fda.gov\/drugsatfda_docs\/appletter\/2000\/20687appltr.pdf\">U.S. rights<\/a>\u00a0of marketing and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fda.gov\/downloads\/Drugs\/DrugSafety\/PostmarketDrugSafetyInformationforPatientsandProviders\/ucm086149.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">distribution<\/a>\u00a0to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.causeiq.com\/organizations\/population-council,131687001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Population Council<\/a>. This\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/population-council-founded-eugenicists-promoting-abortion-turns-65\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">eugenics-founded<\/a>\u00a0\u201cnon-profit\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nrlc.org\/archive\/news\/2006\/NRL07\/BuffettDonation.html\">brought<\/a>\u00a0the abortion pill into the U.S. and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2000\/09\/30\/us\/abortion-pill-distributor-energized-by-new-mission.html\">later<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20010202214900\/http:\/earlyoptionpill.com\/history.php3\">set up<\/a>\u00a0the pill\u2019s manufacturer,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nrlc.org\/archive\/news\/2006\/NRL07\/BuffettDonation.html\">Danco Laboratories, LLC,<\/a>\u00a0a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/caselaw.findlaw.com\/ny-supreme-court-appellate-division\/1151610.html\">sub-licensee<\/a>\u00a0of the Population Council.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6Vf2ZdLRiqM\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>One little known <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/connection-abortion-pill-zyklonb-gas-holocaust\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fact<\/a> about the abortion pill is that it has ties to the manufacturer of the deadly gas\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ushmm.org\/wlc\/search\/index.php?query=Zyklon+B&amp;langcode=en&amp;group=&amp;gfilter=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Zyklon-B<\/a>, used by the Nazis during the Holocaust.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The abortion pill&#8217;s manufacturer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Initially, the abortion pill\u2019s manufacturer was <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-pill-secrecy-women-deserve-truth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">kept secret<\/a>,\u00a0as were the company&#8217;s principles and investors \u2014 so secret that many <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/media-secrecy-abortion-pill-transparency-needed-today\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media outlets<\/a>\u00a0even questioned it.\u00a0Eventually news leaked out that the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.causeiq.com\/organizations\/population-council,131687001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Population Council<\/a>\u00a0had set up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nrlc.org\/archive\/news\/2006\/NRL07\/BuffettDonation.html\">Danco<\/a>\u00a0as the U.S. manufacturer. Then, in 2019, the FDA\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/women-die-abortion-pill-fda-generic\/\">approved<\/a>\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-pill-investor-millions-generic-company\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">generic<\/a>\u00a0manufacturer of the abortion pill: GenBioPro, Inc.<\/p>\n<p>The location of Danco&#8217;s manufacturing plant remains elusive even today, but reports from 2008 identified China-based\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/about-us\/newsroom\/press-releases\/planned-parenthood-calls-fda\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Shanghai Hualian<\/a>\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2008\/01\/31\/world\/asia\/31pharma.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tied<\/a>\u00a0to tainted leukemia drugs) as the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/trademarks.justia.com\/owners\/shanghai-hualian-pharmaceutical-co-ltd-2061445\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sole supplier<\/a>\u00a0of mifepristone to the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>A 1997\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/archive\/politics\/1997\/01\/12\/abortion-pills-us-debut-snagged-by-business-dispute\/8e500dd4-3aba-40b7-b3a2-3bff7fcd4850\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a>\u00a0by the Washington Post indicated that the abortion pill was initially projected to reach $100 million in sales every year.\u00a0Today, it is <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/industry-making-killing-abortion-pill-sales\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">estimated<\/a>\u00a0that the abortion industry could gross nearly $200 million annually in abortion pill sales\u00a0\u2014 twice as much money as initially\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-pill-secrecy-women-deserve-truth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">projected<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The abortion pill&#8217;s financiers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Danco was started with funding from several abortion philanthropy groups, including a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.packard.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Packard_MIR_2015OCT51.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$14 million loan<\/a>\u00a0from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation. Packard would\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20190517205834\/https:\/www.packard.org\/grants-and-investments\/grants-database\/gynuity-health-projects-llc\/\">go on<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20160315230721\/http:\/gynuity.org\/about\/partners\/donors\/\">fund<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-industry-pushing-home-abortions\/\">Gynuity Health Projects,<\/a>\u00a0which is currently\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-industry-pushing-home-abortions\/\">conducting<\/a>\u00a0abortion pill\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/clinicaltrials.gov\/ct2\/show\/NCT02513043?term=gynuity%2C+abortion&amp;recrs=a&amp;draw=2&amp;rank=1\">clinical trials<\/a>, as well as a number of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/study-funded-abortion-pill-investor-buffett-foundation\/\">studies<\/a>, to further increase access to the pills.\u00a0Packard also\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-pill-investor-millions-generic-company\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">funds<\/a>\u00a0the previously mentioned manufacturer, GenBioPro.<\/p>\n<p>A 2002\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20021010204113\/http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/ac2\/wp-dyn?pagename=article&amp;node=&amp;contentId=A53938-2000Oct11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a>\u00a0by the Los Angeles Times noted how abortion philanthropists\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/npr-media-slandering-pro-lifers-funded-abortion-soros\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Open Society Foundations<\/a>\u00a0(the philanthropic arm of billionaire\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.everycrsreport.com\/files\/20010223_RL30866_c6c423f682c56ed7c586755595c02d5202ddf6bd.pdf\">George Soros<\/a>), and the California-based Kaiser Family Foundation also helped finance Danco.\u00a0Internal documents reviewed by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/SB968103355754057093\">Wall Street Journal<\/a>\u00a0indicate that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nrlc.org\/archive\/news\/2006\/NRL07\/BuffettDonation.html\">Warren Buffett<\/a>\u00a0and others helped with financing. And\u00a0according to a\u00a02000 Washington Post\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/archive\/politics\/2000\/10\/12\/drugs-us-marketer-remains-elusive\/8b7b732b-0f23-4c96-9051-714cd3d9f6f8\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a>,\u00a0\u201cThe Buffett Foundation\u2026 made at least $2 million in interest-free loans to the Population Council\u2026\u00a0according to tax documents filed in 1995. That money was in turn used to conduct clinical trials of RU-486.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>The FDA politicized the process<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Reports indicate that the FDA itself <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aaplog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/FRCRU486pamphlet_fnl.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">politicized<\/a>\u00a0the abortion pill\u2019s approval process by choosing not to publish the names of \u201cexperts\u201d who reviewed the drug. The Washington Post\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/archive\/politics\/2000\/10\/12\/drugs-us-marketer-remains-elusive\/8b7b732b-0f23-4c96-9051-714cd3d9f6f8\/?noredirect=on&amp;utm_term=.a41163e953ba\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">noted<\/a>\u00a0that the FDA \u201cbroke with precedent by not publishing the names of the experts who reviewed RU-486 for the agency.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20200708231728\/https:\/\/blogs.cul.columbia.edu\/podcasts\/podcast\/the-abortion-pill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Interviewers<\/a> from Columbia University who spoke to those involved with the Population Council&#8217;s approval process at that time noted that the names of the FDA staff involved with approving the abortion pill have <em>never<\/em> been released.<\/p>\n<p>They were able to somehow track down one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-pill-investor-millions-generic-company\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FDA\u2019s\u00a0senior medical reviewers<\/a>\u00a0who \u201cchose to remain anonymous\u201d but\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20200708231728\/https:\/\/blogs.cul.columbia.edu\/podcasts\/podcast\/the-abortion-pill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">admitted<\/a>, \u201cIt\u2019s definitely not standard. It\u2019s not routine, you can look up almost every other drug that I was the primary medical officer for and my name would appear right there on the review.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Today,\u00a0the pill\u2019s manufacturing location and many of its funders are still\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/secrecy-abortion-pill-maker-investors\/\">cloaked in secrecy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is misoprostol?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The second drug in the abortion pill regimen, misoprostol, is an ulcer drug originally manufactured by Searle under the brand name Cytotec. It was later approved in the United States by the FDA in December of 1988.\u00a0In 1985, Monsanto\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/1985\/07\/19\/business\/monsanto-to-acquire-g-d-searle.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">purchased<\/a>\u00a0G.D. This is why in\u00a0April 2011, the FDA\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.accessdata.fda.gov\/drugsatfda_docs\/appletter\/2011\/020687s014ltr.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">determined<\/a>\u00a0that a safety requirement known as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.accessdata.fda.gov\/scripts\/cder\/rems\/index.cfm?event=RemsDetails.page&amp;REMS=390\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">REMS<\/a>\u00a0was\u00a0<em>necessary<\/em>\u00a0for mifepristone.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/sB8Hc7RGf5c\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/Drugs\/DrugSafety\/PostmarketDrugSafetyInformationforPatientsandProviders\/ucm492705.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">December of 2018<\/a>, the FDA\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/downloads\/Drugs\/DrugSafety\/PostmarketDrugSafetyInformationforPatientsandProviders\/UCM603000.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>\u00a0<b>24 deaths<\/b>*\u00a0associated with the abortion pill since its approval. Nearly 4,200 <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/women-die-abortion-pill-fda-generic\/\">adverse<\/a> events have been reported, including 1,042 hospitalizations, nearly 600 instances of blood loss requiring transfusions, and other serious complications.\u00a0Despite Live Action News&#8217; repeated requests to the FDA, the agency has not <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/drugs\/postmarket-drug-safety-information-patients-and-providers\/mifeprex-mifepristone-information\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">updated<\/a> the numbers on abortion pill deaths or overall distribution since 2018.<\/p>\n<p>It is important to note that under\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.accessdata.fda.gov\/drugsatfda_docs\/nda\/2016\/020687Orig1s020RemsR.pdf\">2016 changes<\/a>, Danco is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.accessdata.fda.gov\/drugsatfda_docs\/nda\/2016\/020687Orig1s020RemsR.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">no longer mandated<\/a>\u00a0to notify the FDA of <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pro-life-concerns-chemical-abortions-reasonable\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">complications<\/a>\u00a0other than death, so no one may ever know just how many women have been injured by the abortion pill. But as abortion pill access increases, it is likely that <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-pill-complications-buried-ignored\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">complications<\/a> (where they are even tracked) will rise as well. In addition, a recent analysis <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/study-abortion-pill-complications-underreported-er-managing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">revealed<\/a> that\u00a0abortion pill clients experiencing complications are more likely to receive care from an emergency center than the abortion facility where they obtained the pills, potentially limiting reporting further.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Where are we today?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Last year, the abortion industry\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-pill-trial-expands-thwart-fda-safety\/\">expanded<\/a>\u00a0abortion pill clinical trials and\u00a0rolled out a \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/alarming-abortion-pill-ultrasounds-guess\/\">no-test\u2019 abortion protocol<\/a>\u00a0under the guise of COVID-19, despite the fact that they had this plan in the works\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/no-test-contact-abortion-covid-works-time\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">prior<\/a>\u00a0to the pandemic. In\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/fda-letter-permits-abortion-pill-by-mail-during-the-covid-19\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">April of 2021<\/a>, the Biden FDA temporarily enabled abortion pill distribution by mail during <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-industry-covid-19-expand-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">COVID-19 pandemic<\/a>\u00a0but made the change permanent as of December 2021, when it\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/fda-permanently-loosens-abortion-pill-safety-measure\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/fda-permanently-loosens-abortion-pill-safety-measure\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1673116411129000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3WfXHqgnjnY8Qzr_5i_prL\">weakened<\/a>\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/drugs\/drug-safety-and-availability\/risk-evaluation-and-mitigation-strategies-rems\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/drugs\/drug-safety-and-availability\/risk-evaluation-and-mitigation-strategies-rems&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1673116411129000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1qhHapmBhD_i-e3R_UKjL4\">REMS\u00a0safety requirements<\/a> by eliminating the in-person dispensing requirement and enabling the abortion pill to be shipped by mail. Then, on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/drugs\/postmarket-drug-safety-information-patients-and-providers\/questions-and-answers-mifepristone-medical-termination-pregnancy-through-ten-weeks-gestation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/drugs\/postmarket-drug-safety-information-patients-and-providers\/questions-and-answers-mifepristone-medical-termination-pregnancy-through-ten-weeks-gestation&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1673116411129000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2QbeyP-bJzKE5zLRCKxfyB\">January 3, 2023<\/a>, the Biden\u00a0FDA went even further, by allowing the\u00a0abortion pill to\u00a0be <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/fda-retail-pharmacies-abortion-pills-prescription\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/fda-retail-pharmacies-abortion-pills-prescription\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1673116411129000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1BAsdg2fUjWzUQoyMvOd-F\">sold through retail pharmacies<\/a> with a prescription.<\/p>\n<p>Today, the abortion industry is seeking to lift the REMS on the abortion pill and expand its use through <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/telehealth-abortions-significant-health-risks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">self-managed<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/do-it-yourself-abortion-isnt-health-care\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DIY abortion<\/a>. This process puts the responsibility of <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-industry-destigmatize-option-seeing-remains\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">seeing the remains of the child<\/a> and disposal of &#8220;fetal remains&#8221; squarely on the teenager or woman taking the pills.\u00a0Additional schemes by abortion insiders involve <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-abortion-pill-fda-limit-failing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">committing<\/a>\u00a0abortions past the approved FDA gestational age limit,\u00a0<em>knowing the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/incomplete-abortion-pill-thousands-emergency-care\/\">failure rate<\/a>\u00a0of the abortion pill increases with gestational age<\/em>.
