{"id":253638,"date":"2021-09-21T16:46:47","date_gmt":"2021-09-21T21:46:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=253638"},"modified":"2021-09-20T18:07:27","modified_gmt":"2021-09-20T23:07:27","slug":"new-hampshire-executive-council-strip-funding-abortion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/new-hampshire-executive-council-strip-funding-abortion\/","title":{"rendered":"New Hampshire Executive Council votes to strip public funding from abortion providers"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New Hampshire\u2019s Executive Council voted 4-1 last Wednesday to reject three contracts providing public funding to abortion providers across the state, citing concerns over compliance with a new state law requiring financial separation of abortion and family planning services at facilities that receive taxpayer dollars.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The three abortion providers that were denied the contracts include Planned Parenthood of Northern New England, Equality Health Center, and Lovering Health Center. In total, the contracts were <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhpr.org\/nh-news\/2021-09-14\/family-planning-contracts-executive-council-vote-republicans-controlling-outcome\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">valued<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at around $640,000. Funds were allocated to several reproductive health facilities that do not offer abortions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The state <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/legiscan.com\/NH\/text\/HB2\/id\/2380170\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">law<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cprohibits the distribution of state funds awarded by the department of health and human services to a reproductive health care facility for provision of abortion services.\u201d Council members expressed concerns that funds for reproductive health and abortion would be comingled.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe, as the pro-lifers who don&#8217;t want our money mixed in with abortion, we need to stand vigilant,\u201d <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wmur.com\/article\/how-to-properly-celebrate-hispanic-heritage-month\/34055305\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">said<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Jason Hennessey, of New Hampshire Right to Life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Earlier this year, NH Gov. Chris Sununu <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/new-hampshire-budget-abortion-restrictions\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">signed<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a budget package that includes a restriction on nearly all abortions after 24 weeks gestation without exceptions for rape, incest, or fetal abnormality. The package also included a provision mandating a financial audit of reproductive health facilities to ensure no public funds are paying for abortion-related services.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/researchers-abortionists-abortion-second-trimester-dangerous\/\">Researchers and abortionists agree: Second trimester abortions are \u2018significantly\u2019 more dangerous to women<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_188491\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-188491\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-188491\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/baby-24-weeks.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"407\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-188491\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Preborn child at 24 weeks<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even so, Gov. Sununu joined abortion advocates in expressing dismay over the Executive Council\u2019s decision.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI brought these contracts forward because I support them, just as I have every year as Governor, because they protect women\u2019s health and it is the right thing to do,\u201d said Gov. Sununu in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.nh.gov\/news-and-media\/governor-chris-sununu-statement-following-executive-council-vote-family-planning\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">statement.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cToday&#8217;s action to vote down funding like cancer screenings and other women\u2019s health services is incredibly disappointing and not something I agree with.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although abortion supporters often tout cancer screenings and women\u2019s health as the priority, abortion providers like Planned Parenthood have shown time and time again that the real focus is abortion, not health care.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As Live Action News <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/former-planned-parenthood-prez-abortion-focus\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">previously reported<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Planned Parenthood now\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/89-seconds-planned-parenthood-report-record-abortions\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">commits<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a040% of the abortions in the United States, setting a record in 2018-2019 of 354,871 abortions, a 3% increase from the previous year. Meanwhile, its health care services have been steadily <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-funding-harm\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">declining<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with cancer screening plummeting over 72% since 2004 and Pap tests dropping 77%. In addition, manual breast exams have declined 75%. (Planned Parenthood does not perform mammograms.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moreover, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pregnancy-resource-centers-real-superheroes\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">only 3.3%<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of reproductive age women in the United States actually go to Planned Parenthood for services, and women can receive those same services (minus abortion) from Federally Qualified Health Centers across the country. Additionally, many <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pregnancy-resource-centers-real-superheroes\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pregnancy resource centers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> provide STD\/STI tests, ultrasounds, childbirth classes, pregnancy tests, and other medical services \u2014 free of charge \u2014 while also providing a number of other resources like free clothes and diapers and access to organizations that offer housing, bill payments, and other support.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the heels of the late-term abortion ban, the Executive Council\u2019s decision not to allocate the public funds to abortion providers represents another pro-life victory that may signal change is coming to the Granite State.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/liveactionnewsonline\/\">\u201cLike\u201d Live Action News on Facebook<\/a>\u00a0for more pro-life news and commentary!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New Hampshire\u2019s Executive Council voted 4-1 last Wednesday to reject three contracts providing public funding to abortion providers across the state, citing concerns over compliance with a new state law requiring financial separation of abortion and family planning services at facilities that receive taxpayer dollars.
