In light of Google’s decision to shut down<\/a> Live Action’s abortion pill reversal ad campaign, members of the Senate Pro-Life Caucus have sent a letter<\/a> to Google CEO\u00a0Sundar Pichai insisting that the Internet giant reverse its decision.<\/p>\n

The letter begins:<\/p>\n

We are deeply concerned by Google\u2019s decision to ban Live Action\u2019s pro-life ads promoting Heartbeat International’s Abortion Pill Reversal (APR) hotline. Google’s pro-life censorship is out of step with the science and reflects an unacceptable bias against pro-life views. We insist that you immediately reverse this decision.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

The letter writers point out that Google ran the ads for four months before shutting them down abruptly on September 13, based on a\u00a0“one-sided pro-abortion ‘report’ provided by a left-leaning news agency.” A Daily Beast article written by pro-abortion advocate Emily Shugerman was riddled with bias and misinformation<\/a>, yet Google used the hit piece based on the report from the Center for Countering Digital Hate as an excuse to silence Live Action without question.<\/p>\n

The Senators go on to point out that Google has not used these standards in ascertaining whether or not to approve pro-abortion ads.<\/p>\n

While banning pro-life APR ads, Google continues to allow ads for purveyors of the deadly abortion pill mifepristone by mail, despite the fact this drug has resulted in at least 24 mothers’ tragic deaths and at least 1,042 mothers being sent to the hospital. Google’s double standard on abortion is disingenuous and an egregious abuse of its enormous market power to protect the billion-dollar abortion industry. The practical consequence of Google’s abortion distortion is that\u00a0pregnant mothers in crisis will only have the option to be marketed abortion drugs through Google\u2019s ad platforms, while life-affirming alternatives are suppressed.<\/em><\/p>\n

Finally, the Senators end their letter with the following:<\/p>\n

We ask that you promptly answer these questions:<\/em><\/p>\n

1. Did any Google employees communicate with, or receive communications from, any representatives of pro-abortion organizations or news agencies, requesting Live Action\u2019s APR ads be banned? If so, please provide the names of these organizations and news agencies.<\/em>
\n2. Were scientists or medical doctors with a diversity of views on abortion consulted in the decision to ban the APR ads? Or only those who promote abortion (like ACOG)?<\/em>
\n3. Will Google also remove ads for the deadly abortion pill mifepristone? <\/em><\/p>\n

Again, we urge you to reverse Google\u2019s unjust and indefensible decision to suppress these prolife life-saving APR information ads, and we look forward to your prompt response to the above questions.<\/em><\/p>\n

The letter was signed by Senators Steve Daines, Cindy Hyde-Smith, Marsha Blackburn, Roger Wicker, Mike Braun, Marco Rubio, Mike Lee, Tom Cotton, James Lankford, Ted Cruz, and James M. Inhofe.<\/p>\n
