Titled, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/lozierinstitute.org\/15-facts-at-15-weeks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">15 Facts at 15 Weeks<\/a>,&#8221; the report offers a look at the complexity and humanity of the 15-week preborn child. It&#8217;s especially timely given the Supreme Court&#8217;s upcoming case,\u00a0<em>Dobbs v. Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization,\u00a0<\/em>which will determine whether or not the state of Mississippi can prohibit abortions after 15 weeks gestation.<\/p>\n<p>The report is written by Katrina Furth, Ph.D., a Charlotte Lozier Institute associate scholar who earned her doctorate in neuroscience at Boston University. It offers astounding clarity on exactly how developed preborn children are by just 15 weeks, discussing in great detail all of the developmental milestones. Some of the amazing facts include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All of the child&#8217;s major organs are grown, and most are functional<\/li>\n<li>The baby&#8217;s heart has already beat nearly 16 million times and it is pumping 26 quarts of blood per day<\/li>\n<li>The baby has a preference for sucking his right or left thumb, and some doctors can even determine whether or not he will be right-handed or left-handed<\/li>\n<li>He responds to taste according to the food his mother eats<\/li>\n<li>His body responds to both touch and pain<\/li>\n<li>The 15-week preborn baby girl will already have most of the eggs she will ever produce<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/S-lQOooYAs8\" width=\"650\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In a press release, Dr. Furth commented on the importance of the study.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>If you follow the science, it\u2019s clear that unborn children at 15 weeks\u2019 gestation are already amazingly complex human beings. It is interesting to note that in prenatal surgeries, the fetus is anesthetized separately from the mom to create the best outcomes. These preborn babies show preferences independent from their mothers and have goal-directed behaviors.
