A man in Flint Township, Michigan, will not see freedom for many years after he tried to abort his child by\u00a0beating his former girlfriend while she was pregnant<\/a>. When Samuel Jenkins\u2019 girlfriend changed her mind about aborting their preborn baby, he decided to take matters into is own hands. Now he has been convicted in the attempt to abort their baby, a Michigan prosecutor announced last week.<\/p>\n

Jenkins, who is 30-years old, was convicted of a laundry list of charges<\/a>\u00a0including\u00a0torture, criminal sexual conduct in the first degree, assault with intent to do great bodily harm, attempted assault of a pregnant individual to induce abortion, aggravated domestic violence, and knowingly assaulting a pregnant individual.<\/p>\n

According to the Office of Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton<\/a> in Michigan, the case dates back to 2018, when the couple initially decided to have an abortion \u2014 but Jenkins’ girlfriend changed her mind. When she became unable to hide the baby at about 27 weeks, Jenkins told her he would \u201cbeat it out of her.\u201d<\/p>\n

The prosecutor\u2019s office issued a statement, in which the prosecutor noted that on August 3, 2018, Jenkins attacked the victim by \u201cmultiple violent punches, but the victim protected herself and her stomach with whatever part of her body she could.\u201d The prosecutor\u2019s statement also noted that Jenkins then pointed a gun at the victim, threatening to shoot her.<\/p>\n

Only four days later, the victim, wise to the fact that Jenkins was about to commit another crime against her, managed to record this one, and, the prosecutor\u2019s statement details, recorded two hours of audio. In the recording, the victim was violently beaten. Jenkins threatened to kill both the victim, and the baby when he or she was born, by breaking the baby\u2019s neck, and then sexually assaulted the victim. The statement continued by explaining that the victim managed to get herself to a hospital after the assault, and a week later Jenkins was arrested, with a gun was found in his car.<\/p>\n

Jenkins\u2019 crime, called \u201cegregious\u201d and \u201cheinous\u201d by Prosecutor Leyton<\/a> in a TV interview with WNEM in Michigan, did not prevent the baby from being born safe and healthy. Jenkins will be sentenced on September 13, and faces potential decades in prison.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am very grateful for the jury\u2019s verdict in rendering justice against a man who violently beat his pregnant girlfriend in an attempt to abort her pregnancy,\u201d Leyton said in the statement. \u201cThe acts of the defendant show him to be a danger to society and the justice system is making sure he will be held accountable for his actions.\u201d<\/p>\n
