“The problem of abortion is the result of civilizational collapse. A common understanding of justice holds a culture together \u2014 without it, a nation will collapse. A nation that permits abortion does not have a common understanding of justice. \u2026 What happens when a citizenry no longer has a common understanding of justice? One must resist … to restore justice.”\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

These are the words of Fr. Marcel Guarnizo, one of the speakers at Live Action\u2019s Activism Training Camp, which was held July 12-14 in downtown San Francisco. The event was designed to give the approximately 100 activists in attendance a foundation in the skills required to resist the culture of death in their local communities. Topics covered were various types of pro-life activism, tactical advice, pro-life apologetics, and more.<\/span><\/p>\n

Featured speakers brought expertise from across the spectrum of pro-life activism and included people with practical experience in shutting down their local abortion facilities. These included the previously mentioned Fr. Guarnizo,\u00a0<\/span>Mark Cavaliere<\/span><\/a> from the <\/span>Southwest Coalition for Life<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Jonathan Keller<\/span><\/a> with the <\/span>California Family Council<\/span><\/a>, and Danielle Versluys, who also shared tactical advice.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Several seasoned activists \u2014\u00a0including Terrisa Bukovinac<\/a> of\u00a0<\/span>Democrats for Life<\/span><\/a>, AJ Hurley of\u00a0<\/span>Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust<\/span><\/a>, Heather Suarez, and <\/span>Christina Bennett<\/span><\/a> \u2014 shared their personal experiences working in the pro-life trenches. Another pro-life veteran was <\/span>Rev. Walter B Hoye II<\/span><\/a> of the <\/span>Issues 4 Life Foundation<\/span><\/a>, who shared his compelling story of sidewalk activism, which led to his eventual unjust arrest and sentencing.<\/span><\/p>\n

The topic of pro-life apologetics was covered by <\/span>Steve Wagner<\/span><\/a> from <\/span>Justice for All<\/span><\/a>, an organization that provides training in the art of pro-life persuasion, and <\/span>Trent Horn<\/span><\/a>, who is a speaker, Catholic apologist, and author of several books, including “<\/span>Persuasive Pro-Life<\/span><\/a>.”\u00a0<\/span>Allison Aranda<\/span><\/a>, Senior Staff Counsel with <\/span>Life Legal Defense Foundation<\/span><\/a>, spoke to the audience about their rights as citizens and activists.<\/span><\/p>\n

The camp also included two activism opportunities. The first was a <\/span>protest action<\/span><\/a> at the San Francisco Department of Health, which was coordinated with Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust and <\/span>Pro-Life San Francisco<\/span><\/a> as part of their ongoing series of protests against UCSF\u2019s aborted fetal tissue\/organ harvesting and research <\/span>operations<\/span><\/a>. The second was a peaceful sidewalk vigil outside the flagship Planned Parenthood location on Bush street in San Francisco. Experienced sidewalk counselors were on-hand.<\/span><\/p>\n

The event ended with participants making action items to carry out upon return to their home communities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
