The <a href=\"https:\/\/apnorc.org\/projects\/public-holds-nuanced-views-about-access-to-legal-abortion\/\">survey results<\/a> contain good news for pro-lifers, indicating that 65% of Americans think that second trimester abortions should be \u201cillegal in all or most cases.\u201d Similarly, the poll also found that 80% of Americans think that third trimester abortions should be illegal \u201cin all or most cases.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The results of this poll are broadly consistent with other surveys which show that strong majorities of Americans oppose abortion after the first trimester.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jgw4X7Dw_3k\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The demographic breakdown of the results was interesting. The poll found strong opposition to second and third trimester abortions across a wide range of demographic groups. In fact, self-identified Democrats and those who identified as \u201cnon-religious\u201d were the only two demographic groups in which a majority of respondents thought that second trimester abortions should be \u201clegal in all or most circumstances.\u201d Majorities of independents, Republicans, Evangelical Christians, and those from other religions opposed second trimester abortions. Additionally, when it comes to third trimester abortions, strong majorities of all demographic groups surveyed \u2014 including Democrats and the non-religious \u2014 thought third trimester abortions should be illegal \u201cin all or most cases.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/gallup-poll-abortion-attitudes-life\/\"><em>New Gallup poll isn\u2019t the \u2018gotcha\u2019 abortion supporters think it is. Here\u2019s why.<\/em><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Overall, the Associated Press deserves credit for conducting and publicizing this poll. Survey research firms ask questions about late-term abortions much less frequently than other questions about abortion attitudes. For instance, since 1995, Gallup has conducted over 30 surveys in which they asked respondents if they were \u201cpro-life\u201d or \u201cpro-choice.\u201d However, Gallup has only asked questions about second and third trimester abortions <a href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/poll\/1576\/abortion.aspx\">six times<\/a> during that time span.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, pro-lifers would do well to publicize this Associated Press poll.\u00a0 The results very effectively counter the narrative pushed by many mainstream media outlets that the abortion policy regime established by <em>Roe v.
