{"id":247469,"date":"2021-06-21T17:21:54","date_gmt":"2021-06-21T22:21:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=247469"},"modified":"2021-06-21T17:24:36","modified_gmt":"2021-06-21T22:24:36","slug":"eu-resolution-abortion-restrictions-human-rights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/eu-resolution-abortion-restrictions-human-rights\/","title":{"rendered":"Orwellian EU resolution declares abortion restrictions a &#8216;violation of human rights&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The European Union (EU) Parliament is set to vote on a resolution that calls for enshrining abortion as a fundamental right and clearing all legal obstacles to abortion on demand, including the removal of a physicians\u2019 right to conscientious objection.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In early June, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/doceo\/document\/FEMM-PR-648429_EN.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">draft report<\/span><\/a>\u00a0from the Committee on Women\u2019s Rights and Gender Equality <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201con the situation of sexual and reproductive health and rights in the EU\u201d cleared the EU Committee on Women\u2019s Rights and Gender Equality by a vote of 27 to 6, with 1 abstention. It will advance to the EU Parliament\u2019s plenary session for a full vote on June 23, where it is expected to pass. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although EU Member States would not be legally bound by the resolution, the motion seeks to undermine Member States\u2019 autonomy on abortion, concentrate power in the EU and its agencies, and force pro-life countries to change their laws.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/citizengo.org\/en-row\/ot\/202737-european-parliament-intends-declare-abortion-right\">Click here<\/a> to sign a petition opposing this effort.<\/p>\n<p><b>Laying a radically pro-abortion foundation<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Introduced by Predrag Mati\u0107, the resolution frames abortion as part of an umbrella of \u201csexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR)\u201d that includes \u201cthe rights of all individuals to have their bodily integrity and personal autonomy respected.\u201d Although seemingly innocuous, under the SRHR definition the resolution includes access to \u201csafe and legal abortion services.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bHe8YGPGzj4\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The report specifically calls out Member States\u2019 restrictions on abortion as \u201ca violation of human rights and a form of gender-based violence,\u201d lambasting such pro-life measures as an attack on \u201cthe right to life, physical and mental integrity, equality, non-discrimination, health and education.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The pro-abortion measure also calls upon member states to view conscientious objection to abortion as \u201cdenial of medical care.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The resolution calls upon \u201cthe EU, its bodies and agencies to support and promote access to SRHR services and calls upon the Member States to ensure access to a full range of SRHR, and to remove all barriers impeding full access to SRHR.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>\u201cFundamental right\u201d to abortion is nothing less than totalitarianism\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The attempt to call pro-life laws a \u201cviolation of human rights\u201d and even \u201cgender-based violence\u201d is a distortion of language in the name of abortion activism, designed largely to deceive. As the European Centre for Law &amp; Justice (ECLJ) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/eclj.org\/abortion\/eu\/un-nouveau-debat-sur-lavortement-au-parlement-europeen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">points out<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, there is no \u201cright to abortion\u201d in international law or treaty, nor any European conventions or charters. Abortion, the killing of an innocent human being, can never be a human right. Abortion is a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-violence-words-videos-inside-abortion-industry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">gruesome form of violence<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, one which itself is often <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/23-million-girls-missing-sex-selective-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">gender-based<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with the UN estimating <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/un-report-sex-selective-abortion-1-2m-girls\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1.2 million preborn girls<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> aborted annually.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The perversion of language is nothing less than Orwellian, and the attempt to outlaw the conscientious objection of health professionals, and coerce their complicity in the killing of preborn babies, is nothing short of totalitarianism. In the U.S., this type of abortion activism has echoes in the radical <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/congress-bill-abortion-birth-eliminating-pro-life\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Women\u2019s Health Protection Act<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which would remove conscience protections for pro-life doctors in the name of abortion on demand.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0NsLbOS_eKY\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The resolution is a radical pro-abortion ideology that seeks to erase pro-life views and is not rooted in science or sound medical practice. The intentional killing of a preborn baby is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pro-life-replies-abortion-never-medically-necessary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">never medically necessary<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and killing preborn babies is not \u201cmedical care\u201d nor any form of health care and does nothing but deeply violate the Hippocratic Oath. This was affirmed by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0NsLbOS_eKY&amp;t=13s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">over 1,000<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> trained and certified medical professionals around the world in the Dublin Declaration. During the height of the pandemic, a statement by medical groups representing 30,000 physicians pointed out that \u201celective abortion treats no disease process,\u201d as Live Action News <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/30000-physicians-statement-elective-abortion-covid-19\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reported<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While women have rights of their own bodily autonomy like any other human being, they have no more right to kill another human than anyone else. The only human rights being violated in this declaration are those of the preborn baby, and of the conscientious objectors who hold deeply-rooted beliefs in the evils of intentionally taking the life of vulnerable humans in their care. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Such a \u201cfundamental human right\u201d is simply impossible when applied to a person\u2019s right to snuff out the life of another, distinct human being.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>A subtle strategy:\u00a0 Undermining pro-life policies in EU Member States<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The resolution poses a very real threat to the EU members with protections for preborn babies. Although not legally binding, the ECLJ notes, \u201cthe promoters of this draft resolution are trying to take advantage of the system of soft law, in order to introduce a new norm without it appearing at first sight to be imposed.\u201d Although not legally binding, \u201cthe choice of the institution in this strategy is not to be underestimated,\u201d since <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201ca resolution may subsequently serve to politically legitimise action by the Member States or the institutions; it is intended to produce practical effects. More importantly, it can express a pre-legislative intention that can later be used to justify binding<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> acts.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/photo-later-term-aborted-baby-allegedly-taken-abortion-worker-shared-pro-life-activist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>\u2018She was having nightmares\u2019: Abortion worker shares photo of late-term aborted baby with pro-lifers<\/em><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is no coincidence that some of the strongest objections have come from Malta, which has the most robust legal protections for preborn babies, and which has already been the target of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/malta-fights-attempts-decriminalize-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">abortion activists<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. As Doctors for Life Malta have pointed out, the resolution poses an imminent threat to Malta\u2019s sovereignty, the principle of subsidiarity, and the right of conscientious objectors, as reported by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.maltatoday.com.mt\/news\/ewropej\/110104\/prolife_doctors_tell_meps_to_vote_down_abortion_right_report#.YM02xbTYrrc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Malta Today<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If this Orwellian resolution were to pass, EU countries with any pro-life protections, including basic conscience rights for physicians, would wake up to find themselves in the crosshairs of increasingly totalitarian abortion activism \u2014 one that seemingly will stop at nothing to achieve its objectives.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/liveactionnewsonline\/\">\u201cLike\u201d Live
