A new report from the Institute of Women’s Policy Research (IWPR) is being hyped by the abortion industry, claiming it proves that abortion should be completely unrestricted. According to the IWPR, restrictions on abortion are a drain on the economy, costing Americans over $100 billion<\/a> in economic losses.<\/p>\n

Orlando Weekly reported<\/a> that in Florida alone, lifting abortion restrictions would result in an earnings increase of $6 million for women with jobs in the state, implying that the killing of human beings in abortion results is economically beneficial.<\/p>\n

“We know at the national level, the state-level abortion restrictions cost $105 billion per year by reducing labor-force participation and earnings,” Alexis McGill Johnson, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood, said in a statement. She also claimed that eliminating all<\/em> state-level abortion restrictions would result in over a half-million women would begin working, with annual earnings for women increasing by more than $1,600 a year. “All of this is happening against the majority of public opinion,” she continued. “In every single state \u2014 not just national public opinion, but literally every single state \u2014 a majority of Americans believe that Roe should be the law of the land.”<\/p>\n

IWPR president and CEO C. Nicole Mason also said their research shows that women need abortion to be financially successful, implying that women who are not entering the workforce because they are caring for children is something to be condemned. “When [abortion] access is blocked, women face enormous economic losses,\u201d she said in a statement<\/a>. \u201cUp to this point, we just didn\u2019t know how much. Our new research points to just how much the economic impact on women\u2019s long-term earnings as well as the impact of these losses on the workplace.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yet what this research actually affirms is the prevalence of pregnancy discrimination. Women too often feel forced to choose between their children and their careers. Because abortion is legal and widely accessible, there is little-to-no impetus for businesses to be accommodating of women who are pregnant or parenting.<\/p>\n

Indeed, employers like Walmart<\/a>, Google<\/a>, Nike<\/a>, UPS<\/a>, and Planned Parenthood<\/a> have been accused of pushing women out of their jobs for becoming pregnant, while pregnant women in the military<\/a>\u00a0say they have been pressured to abort or face losing their jobs. Politicians<\/a>, pharmaeceutical companies<\/a>, car dealerships<\/a>, and countless others have attempted to force pregnant women into abortions under threat of job loss.<\/p>\n

What would the economic impact be if, instead of pushing women into abortions, these women were provided support and resources to continue working successfully while raising their children, ideally with the help of those children’s fathers? Regardless, the argument ultimately being made is that any human being can and should be destroyed, as long as it benefits others in society.<\/p>\n
