In a recent edition<\/a> of the Pittsburgh City Paper, employees of an abortion business launched an attack against pregnancy resource centers. Attacks<\/a> like this have become<\/a> increasingly more common<\/a> as the abortion industry views the pro-life centers as “competition<\/a>.”<\/p>\n

Last month, the Women\u2019s Care Center, a pregnancy resource center, opened in the East Liberty neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Crystal Grabowski, an abortion facility staffer, decried the pro-life center as the latest in a line of “fake clinics,” and complained that the centers keep women from having abortions. \u201cThey\u2019re really banking on people not knowing what to do,\u201d she told the paper. \u201cThey [PRCs] want to appear as close to an abortion provider as possible.”<\/p>\n

The Women’s Care Center is one block from the Allegheny Reproductive Health Center (ARHC), an abortion facility, and opened inside ARHC’s old building. \u201cIt\u2019s clearly their goal to confuse people,” Grabowski said. “It\u2019s very transparent what they\u2019re doing. I don\u2019t think they\u2019re hiding it very well.\u201d<\/p>\n

The attacks leveled against the center seem to be ideological in nature, as the free services provided to women facing unplanned pregnancies are not controversial. Women can receive free pregnancy tests, ultrasound referrals, employment assistance, and material assistance. The center also offers adoption referrals, a fatherhood program, and even a spa\/facials program to give moms a little pampering. Material assistance is received through an “earn while you learn” program, offering free courses which give practical life lessons for parents. Credits for those courses can be exchanged for needed items, like cribs, strollers, diapers, and baby clothing.<\/p>\n

ARHC\u2019s Director of Nursing, named by the paper only as “Ryah,” was not impressed. \u201cIt seems like this \u2018learn to earn\u2019 is going to be 100% biased,\u201d she said, though her wording indicates that she likely hasn’t investigated the program herself.<\/p>\n

Grabowski, meanwhile, made the claim, “If you want to have an abortion, you don\u2019t need an ultrasound beforehand.”<\/p>\n

This may be the case for the new so-called “no-test<\/a>” abortion pill protocol which some physicians have said experiments with women’s health<\/a>, but prior to a surgical abortion, an ultrasound is standard procedure<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The gestational age of the preborn child must be dated so the abortionist knows which abortion procedure<\/a> to use, and any kind of complications \u2014 such as ectopic pregnancy or placenta previa \u2014 need to be ruled out, or the abortion can quickly turn catastrophic.<\/p>\n

Ironically, Grabowski told the paper, \u201cEvery person when they\u2019re seeking health care deserves comprehensive information from someone who knows what they\u2019re talking about.” An ultrasound is comprehensive information, but seeing an ultrasound has been known to sway some women in the direction of choosing life<\/a>, and ultimately, this causes abortion businesses to lose money.<\/p>\n

Pregnancy resource centers give\u00a0women options<\/a> other than abortion and offer real, tangible assistance at no charge.<\/p>\n
