{"id":244955,"date":"2021-05-13T10:00:20","date_gmt":"2021-05-13T15:00:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=244955"},"modified":"2021-05-16T21:59:50","modified_gmt":"2021-05-17T02:59:50","slug":"group-employees-3k-abortion-stipend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/group-employees-3k-abortion-stipend\/","title":{"rendered":"Pro-abortion group gives employees $3k yearly abortion stipend"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/avowtexas.org\/about-us\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Avow<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,&#8221; a pro-abortion political action and education nonprofit formerly known as NARAL Pro-Choice Texas, has created a benefit package that pays a yearly stipend for employees&#8217; abortions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reprojobs.org\/blog\/naral-prochoice-txs-aimee-arrambide-on-offering-benefits-that-reflect-our-values\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">an interview with ReproJobs<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Avow executive director Aimee Arrambide explained the benefits package. &#8220;It was my goal upon starting this job to make sure the staff was whole,&#8221; she said, explaining, &#8220;Some of the benefits included are employer-paid health, dental, vision, STD, LTD insurance, retirement match of 3%, flex time with core hours, remote working, unlimited paid time off, a three-month paid sabbatical after five years, six-month paid family leave, <\/span><b>a $3,000 abortion stipend per year<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.&#8221; (emphasis added). The stipend covers abortions for employees as well as their family members.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lila Rose, President and Founder of Live Action, responded:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is an abhorrent policy. Abortion \u2018benefits\u2019 no one. Benefits are offered to save lives and allow for human thriving &#8211; abortion ends lives. This $3k stipend should be put towards life saving benefits and care of pregnant women, not the starvation, dismemberment, and death of their children.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Three thousand dollars is enough to cover <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/spendonhealth.com\/abortion-cost\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">one or more later abortions<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or multiple first-trimester abortions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CFZDhM5Gwhk\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Avow was once a NARAL Pro-Choice America state affiliate, but recently split from the national organization and rebranded itself under the notion that its abortion advocacy needed to be more direct. The group <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/avowtexas.org\/2021\/01\/21\/naral-pro-choice-texas-is-now-avow\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">announced<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> its split from NARAL Pro-Choice America in a January 2021 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/prochoicetexas.org\/blog\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">blog post<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, writing, &#8220;Big news: NARAL Pro-Choice Texas is now Avow. To avow means to declare openly, bluntly, and without shame. Now more than ever, our state needs bold and unapologetic advocacy for abortion rights. As an independent, Texas-based organization, Avow will continue our work at the state and local level \u2014 where the decisions that most impact Texans are happening. Together, we can build a Texas where every person is trusted, thriving, and free to pursue the life they want.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An interview with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.texasmonthly.com\/news-politics\/texas-lege-abortion-2021-session\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Texas Monthly<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> makes the reason for the break more clear: Avow&#8217;s team wants the abortion movement to stop using euphemisms like &#8220;reproductive health,&#8221; and to be more open about their abortion advocacy, including focusing on abortion. \u201cThe opposition has only become more bold, more inflammatory,&#8221; Delma Catalina Limones, Avow&#8217;s communications manager, said. &#8220;We deserve a movement that is going to confront the issue and not always be on the defense.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2019, the group, while still under the moniker NARAL Pro-Choice Texas, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-activists-post-billboard-claiming-freedom\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">funded<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cAbortion is Freedom\u201d billboards in the state in response to the enactment of \u201cSanctuary Cities for the Unborn\u201d ordinances. More than two dozen Texas cities have banned abortion within their municipalities as a result of this grassroots pro-life effort.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Avow&#8217;s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/avowtexas.org\/about-us\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">goal<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is unrestricted abortion access in Texas \u2014 something with which Americans overwhelmingly disagree. Though the group claims to represent the average woman in Texas, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/poll\/1576\/abortion.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">polling<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kofc.org\/un\/en\/resources\/communications\/abortion-limits-favored.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">consistently shown<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that while Americans support legal abortion, they find it morally wrong and want it to be heavily restricted.
