Dr. Cackovic is known to be an abortion-friendly physician. In 2019, he was interviewed by the pro-abortion <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/rewirenewsgroup.com\/article\/2019\/07\/05\/medical-residents-struggle-to-find-abortion-training-as-statewide-restrictions-tighten\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rewire News<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> where he defended his school\u2019s affiliation with Planned Parenthood for the training of OBGYN residents, and he also spoke out against <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/ohio-heartbeat-bill-governor-make-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ohio\u2019s pro-life heartbeat law<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/ohio-heartbeat-bill-abortion-ban-heads-to-governor-mike-dewine-today-2019-04-10\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CBS story<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. No other physicians were interviewed on the question of embryonic heartbeats, and only one peripherally-related study is cited.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Cackovic is portrayed as exasperated that pro-life laws have used \u201cfetal heartbeat\u201d as the criterion for protecting a preborn baby \u201cbecause at the point where advanced technology can detect that first flutter, as early as six weeks, the embryo isn\u2019t yet a fetus and it doesn\u2019t have a heart.\u201d Later on, quoting Dr. Cackovic, the article laments that heartbeat laws are made possible by \u201c\u2018our amazing technological advances\u2019 that allow detection of the earliest signs of embryonic cardiac activity, \u2018and nothing else.\u2019\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/O3updQZsM7o\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Cackovic presents a distinction without a difference. Whether an embryo or a fetus, the preborn baby <em>is a human<\/em> who has been conceived and is growing within the womb. The \u201cfirst flutter\u201d detected is the earliest sign of a human heart in the preborn baby \u2014 the standard for determining life. As the Endowment for Human Development\u2019s (EHD) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ehd.org\/movies\/224\/The-Fetus-Yawns\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">series of videos<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> show, the preborn baby has a detectable heartbeat very soon after fertilization (it begins to beat between <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/congress-should-pass-the-heartbeat-bill-to-protect-life-once-a-heartbeat-is-detected\/\">days 16 and 22<\/a>), a heart that will beat \u201capproximately 54 million times before birth.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/woman-pressured-abortion-baby-beating-heart\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Woman pressured into abortion: \u2018No one told me\u2026 my baby already had a beating heart\u2019<\/em><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Cackovic claims the earliest signs of a heartbeat cannot be heard but \u201conly seen on ultrasound.\u201d This observation has no pertinent merit. The reality is that there is no difference between what the authors describe as \u201cearliest signs of cardiac activity\u201d and a heartbeat. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to a variety of <a href=\"https:\/\/open.oregonstate.education\/aandp\/chapter\/19-5-development-of-the-heart\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">early human and anatomy<\/a> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">texts<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.contemporaryobgyn.net\/view\/embryonic-heart-rates-compared-assisted-and-non-assisted-pregnancies\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">studies<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/embryology.med.unsw.edu.au\/embryology\/index.php\/Cardiovascular_System_-_Heart_Development\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">universities<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the heart is the first organ to form. Indeed, embryonic heart rate (EHR) is a very useful measurement, especially when compared to crown-to-rump length (CRL) when measuring preborn babies in the earliest weeks. For them, \u201cheartbeat\u201d is a good enough term for the blood flowing and being pushed through the still-developing heart. And in fact, some babies&#8217; hearts still continue to develop after birth in the cases of<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/fn.bmj.com\/content\/78\/3\/F166\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">heart murmurs closing on their own<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with increased maturity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/k0WNRR-epPI\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even Planned Parenthood\u2019s own <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/learn\/pregnancy\/pregnancy-month-by-month\/what-happens-second-month-pregnancy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">website<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> states that, during weeks five and six of a baby\u2019s gestation, a \u201cvery basic beating heart and circulatory system develop.\u201d As the series of EHD gestational videos demonstrate, the preborn baby\u2019s embryonic cardiac activity does not stop once it begins; it merely grows and develops more fully.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The AP story fails basic, even cursory logic as well as minimal scrutiny against the facts at hand. It is merely the latest in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/scientific-american-pushes-unscientific-abortion-claims\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">genre<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/heartbeat-bills-get-the-science-of-fetal-heartbeats-all-wrong\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reporting<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> seeking to dehumanize the preborn baby by implying that the earliest presence of a heartbeat is something other than what it is: clear evidence of the existence of a person deserving of protection.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/liveactionnewsonline\/\">\u201cLike\u201d Live Action News on Facebook<\/a>\u00a0for more pro-life news and
