{"id":244836,"date":"2021-05-10T17:35:55","date_gmt":"2021-05-10T22:35:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=244836"},"modified":"2021-05-10T15:25:57","modified_gmt":"2021-05-10T20:25:57","slug":"north-dakota-legislature-funds-abortion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/north-dakota-legislature-funds-abortion\/","title":{"rendered":"North Dakota advances bill cutting college funds from abortion businesses"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>The North Dakota legislature has sent a bill to the governor\u2019s desk that would make receiving $11.15 million of educational grants contingent upon certifying that universities have no affiliation with abortionists.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.legis.nd.gov\/assembly\/67-2021\/documents\/21-0144-06000.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Senate Bill 2030<\/a> requires eligible state universities to certify that \u201cthe institution is not sponsoring, partnering with, applying for grants with, or providing a grant subaward to any person or organization that performs, or promotes the performance of, an abortion.\u201d The only exception made is for abortions committed to \u201cprevent the death of the woman.\u201d (Read more here about why deliberately killing a preborn child is <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pro-life-replies-abortion-never-medically-necessary\/\">never medically necessary<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>The bill also requires universities to certify they are \u201cnot participating in or sponsoring any program producing, distributing, publishing, disseminating, endorsing, or approving materials\u00a0of any type or from any organization, that between normal childbirth and abortion,\u00a0do not give preference, encouragement, and support to normal childbirth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ: <em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/north-dakota-scrutiny-planned-parenthood-sex-ed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">North Dakota bill brings scrutiny to Planned Parenthood\u2019s damaging sex ed<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>SB 2030 seeks to address an issue dating back to 2018, when North Dakota State University funneled about 66 percent of a federal grant to the abortion giant Planned Parenthood ostensibly as part of research and development of a sex education curriculum, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/north_dakota\/north-dakota-passes-legislation-that-prevents-public-universities-from-partnering-with-abortion-vendors\/article_cdd49fb0-acff-11eb-a46a-bbd003e09b7f.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Center Square<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>North Dakota Right to Life celebrated the bill clearing the legislature. \u201cThanks to all of those that helped us contact our legislators, SB 2030 passed and is now awaiting the Governor\u2019s signature,\u201d said Sarah Heitkamp, the pro-life group\u2019s director, according to The Center Square.<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/u7oeSAOZwdk\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Students for Life of America also hailed the passage of SB 2030. \u201cWe want to get Planned Parenthood off all campuses and started a Christian Schools Project to start with people of faith,\u201d Students for Life of America spokesperson said, according to The Center Square. \u201cThere have been some innovative legislative solutions to the problem of the nation\u2019s number one abortion vendor infiltrating schools to create customers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Planned Parenthood has a history of trying to use any foothold it gains on college campuses in order to spread pro-abortion propaganda.
