Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), often referred to simply as &#8220;AOC,&#8221; recently\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/OversightDems\/status\/1390382728550535173\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">claimed<\/a>\u00a0that Planned Parenthood has saved &#8220;many lives&#8221; with their &#8220;prenatal care&#8221; services. She also claimed her own mother received prenatal care there, calling herself a &#8220;Planned Parenthood baby.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In her statement before a House committee <a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/legislation\/hearings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hearing<\/a> titled, &#8220;Birthing While Black: Examining America\u2019s Black Maternal Health Crisis,&#8221; the Congresswoman, a strong\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-congressional-allies-abortion-pill-safety\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">supporter<\/a> of abortion and Planned Parenthood, stated:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>If we want to talk about Planned Parenthood, let\u2019s talk about how many lives Planned Parenthood has saved. And how many babies have been born because of the prenatal care provide by Planned Parenthood. <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>If you don\u2019t believe it and you\u2019ve never met a Planned Parenthood baby, I&#8217;m happy to let you know that I am one. And that my mother received and relied on prenatal care from Planned Parenthood when she was pregnant with me. <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>And, so if we&#8217;re concerned about life &#8211; we don&#8217;t get to talk about anyone else who&#8217;s not concerned about the full spectrum of that when we are upholding policies that kill people.<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"video-container\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">AOC says that she was a \u201cPlanned Parenthood baby\u201d: <\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s talk about how many lives Planned Parenthood has saved &amp; how many babies have been born because of the prenatal care provided by Planned Parenthood.\u201d<br \/> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/FLwYjCs8ME\">pic.twitter.com\/FLwYjCs8ME<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Daily Caller (@DailyCaller) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DailyCaller\/status\/1390393264583454723?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 6, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>While no one can confirm or deny Ocasio-Cortez&#8217;s claim that her mother received prenatal care from Planned Parenthood during her pregnancy (which was likely 1988 or 1989 as she was born in October of 1989), for her to now imply that &#8220;many lives&#8221; are saved by an organization which currently kills over 350,000 children every single year through abortion is a purposeful and egregious deception.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Facts<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Politicians like Ocasio-Cortez often tout Planned Parenthood (recently <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/look-2020-racism-white-supremacy-abortion-industry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">accused<\/a> of systemic racism by its own employees) as necessary &#8220;health care&#8221; for pregnant women. However, Planned Parenthood\u2019s own data is clear that its care for pregnant women \u2014 like prenatal care and adoption referrals \u2014 are actually\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-prenatal-care-plummeted-abortions-skyrocketed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shrinking<\/a>\u00a0while its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-prenatal-care-plummeted-abortions-skyrocketed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">abortion numbers skyrocket<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Planned Parenthood\u2019s business model has centered around the sale of abortion and it goes to great lengths to present it as a <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/parenting-frustrating-hard-says-nations-number-one-abortion-provider-planned-parenthood\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">favorable alternative<\/a> to parenting, so it is no surprise that the organization&#8217;s abortions and taxpayer funding are <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pianned-parenthoods-past-decade-3-3-million-abortions-6-billion-taxpayer-dollars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">increasing year over year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Numbers\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Planned Parenthood used to report just the number of <em>prenatal clients<\/em> it served. However, in 2009 it began reporting &#8220;prenatal services,&#8221; which had the effect of appearing to increase its number served in that category <em>by a factor of nearly six<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>In 2009, Planned Parenthood&#8217;s report showed 40,489 prenatal services provided (<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/2009-2010-Planned-Parenthood-Annual-Report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2009-2010 annual report<\/a>) but in its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/2009-Annual-Affiliate-Service-Census-Report..pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Annual Affiliate Service Census Report<\/a>\u00a0for that same year, it reported just 7,021 clients.<\/p>\n<p>A review of &#8220;prenatal services&#8221; between <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/2009-2010-Planned-Parenthood-Annual-Report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2009<\/a>\u00a0and the most recent\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/uploads\/filer_public\/67\/30\/67305ea1-8da2-4cee-9191-19228c1d6f70\/210219-annual-report-2019-2020-web-final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2019-2020<\/a>\u00a0report shows that Planned Parenthood provided a total of 200,530 prenatal <em>services<\/em>. At the same time, it committed nearly\u00a0<em><strong>four million abortions<\/strong><\/em>. And, i<\/span><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">n just <em>one year<\/em>, the corporation\u2019s prenatal care services\u00a0<strong>declined by nearly 12%<\/strong>\u00a0(9,798 recorded in its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/uploads\/filer_public\/2e\/da\/2eda3f50-82aa-4ddb-acce-c2854c4ea80b\/2018-2019_annual_report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2018-2019 report<\/a>\u00a0compared to\u00a08,626 recorded in its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/uploads\/filer_public\/67\/30\/67305ea1-8da2-4cee-9191-19228c1d6f70\/210219-annual-report-2019-2020-web-final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2019-2020 report<\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">In fact, prenatal care <em>services<\/em> at Planned Parenthood have\u00a0<strong>dropped nearly 79% since 2009 and<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>over\u00a072%\u00a0since 2010, <\/strong>figures\u00a0recorded in the organization&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/liveaction.org\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/2009-2010-Planned-Parenthood-Annual-Report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2010 report<\/a>\u00a0(40,489 in 2009 compared to 31,098 in 2010).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Currently,\u00a0Planned Parenthood commits\u00a041 abortions for every one prenatal care service and 133 abortions for every adoption referral. This does not even remotely show a focus on helping women to give birth to their children \u2014 i.e. &#8220;saving lives.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>PLANNED PARENTHOOD PROVIDES LESS THAN 1% OF PRENATAL SERVICES<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Planned Parenthood\u00a0only serves <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/3-women-reproductive-age-planned-parenthood\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">three percent<\/a> of women of reproductive age in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, Planned Parenthood\u2019s own\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/learn\/pregnancy\/prenatal-care\/where-can-i-get-prenatal-care\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">website<\/a>\u00a0makes it clear that only \u201c<em>some<\/em>\u201d Planned Parenthood facilities offer any prenatal care and nationwide data shows that Planned Parenthood only provides a minuscule amount of the service overall.<\/p>\n<p>According to a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/data\/ahcd\/namcs_summary\/2016_namcs_web_tables.pdf\">2016 analysis<\/a>\u00a0published by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/fastats\/physician-visits.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Center of Health Statistics<\/a>, women had 22.5 million prenatal visits with providers in the U.S.\u00a0That same year, Planned Parenthood reported just 7,762 prenatal services; in 2019, PP reported 8,626 prenatal services.<\/p>\n<p>This means that Planned Parenthood likely provides <em><strong>far, far<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<strong><em>less than even one half of one percent<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(.0004%, to be exact) of prenatal services in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/3-women-reproductive-age-planned-parenthood\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">provide<\/a> almost\u00a0<em>twice the number of prenatal services annually<\/em>\u00a0as Planned Parenthood has reported <em>over the span of 20 years<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps it is FQHCs that should be touted as the true lifesaving entities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Prenatal Care Deception<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Live Action&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-purges-prenatal-from-websites-after-live-action-investigation\/\">undercover investigations<\/a>\u00a0have revealed that prenatal care is not just difficult to find at Planned Parenthood facilities, but practically nonexistent. As can be heard in the recordings, even the workers themselves seemed baffled that anyone would call asking for prenatal services, which were\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-purges-prenatal-from-websites-after-live-action-investigation\/\">advertised at the time on Planned Parenthood\u2019s own website and later scrubbed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In 2017, Live Action <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/ekgiScr364Y\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">found<\/a>\u00a0that\u00a0only a small number of Planned Parenthood facilities were offering prenatal care of any kind. Out of 97 facilities called, only\u00a0<strong>five<\/strong>\u00a0said they offered <em>any<\/em> type of service to mothers who wanted to carry their babies to term.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly every Planned Parenthood staffer plainly\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/defund-debate-hits-live-action-exposes-planned-parenthoods-prenatal-care-deception\/?_gl=1*dngcn5*_ga*MjQxOTA4MS4xNTg1ODM1NjI0*_ga_V8PHJBDT1H*MTYxNDI3MjM1Ny4xNzEuMS4xNjE0MjcyNzEwLjYw\">told<\/a>\u00a0investigators they\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/13-things-planned-parenthood-says-women-need-prenatal-care\/\">did not offer<\/a>\u00a0prenatal services at Planned Parenthood. Watch:<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ekgiScr364Y\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/center>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Planned Parenthood&#8217;s failed initiative<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At one time prenatal care was described as Planned Parenthood&#8217;s \u201cfastest growing area.\u201d But times have certainly changed.<\/p>\n<p>According to Planned Parenthood&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stopp.org\/PPFAReports\/PPFA1996-97008.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1996-1997 annual report<\/a>, the organization had implemented a three-year $1.4 million initiative with 18 affiliates called the PPFA Comprehensive Prenatal Care Network (CPCN)<em>. <\/em>It was created\u00a0to &#8220;reduce the rates of infant and maternal death.&#8221; Today, the organization <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PPFA\/status\/892178089341587456\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">touts abortion<\/a> as a solution to these serious public health issues.<\/p>\n<p>The CPCN initiative may have been the result of a failed \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthoods-health-care-reinvention-plan-failed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reinvention plan<\/a>\u201d to reshape Planned Parenthood into a broader health care organization. It was developed under then-president (and former nurse) Pamela J. Maraldo in the mid-1990&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>According to a New York Times\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/1995\/07\/22\/us\/planned-parenthood-president-resigns.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a>, the plan was soundly <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthoods-health-care-reinvention-plan-failed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rejected<\/a>\u00a0because &#8220;[&#8230;] some of the group&#8217;s affiliates felt would inevitably diminish their role as advocates for abortion rights and low-income women&#8217;s access to health care.&#8221;\u00a0Read more about that <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthoods-health-care-reinvention-plan-failed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Retaining power is crucial to Planned Parenthood<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Planned Parenthood is an organization focused on abortion and <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/employee-planned-parenthood-concerned-money-power\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">obtaining power<\/a>, according to its own\u00a0president Alexis McGill Johnson, who was recently\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=u1P8OBTeUfk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">asked<\/a> if there was a \u201cpath to ensuring some kind of stability [on abortion rights].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her response? \u201cBuilding and holding power.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The organization\u2019s past president Cecile Richards once\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-aim-largest-kick-butt-political-organization\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a>\u00a0NBC\u2019s Chuck Todd that she was helping to turn Planned Parenthood into \u201cthe largest kick butt political organization.\u201d\u00a0And as a result, the corporation has made many\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/report-planned-parenthood-money-laundering\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">political alliances<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 with politicians like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez \u2014\u00a0that benefit its bottom line.<\/p>\n<p>Richards\u2019 replacement, Dr. Leana Wen, who was later\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-leana-wen-fighting-abortion-fired\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ousted<\/a>\u00a0for <em>failing<\/em> to focus on abortion or on expanding Planned Parenthood&#8217;s political power,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DrLeanaWen\/status\/1151233772181999616\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tweeted<\/a>\u00a0regarding her departure, \u201cThe\u00a0<strong>new Board leadership<\/strong>\u00a0has determined that\u00a0<strong>the priority of Planned Parenthood moving forward is to double down on abortion rights advocacy<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Planned Parenthood\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/uploads\/filer_public\/67\/30\/67305ea1-8da2-4cee-9191-19228c1d6f70\/210219-annual-report-2019-2020-web-final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2019-2020<\/a>\u00a0annual report, the corporation lost over half a million donors but accumulated nearly $70 million in excess revenue over expenses in just that one year, making Planned Parenthood\u2019s net assets over $2 billion.\u00a0In the <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pianned-parenthoods-past-decade-3-3-million-abortions-6-billion-taxpayer-dollars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">past decade<\/a> (2010-2019),\u00a0while Planned Parenthood committed\u00a03.3 million abortions, the organization\u2019s net assets have climbed by nearly one billion ($880.9 million).<\/p>\n<p>Planned Parenthood&#8217;s focus, in other words, is not on &#8220;saving lives&#8221; through prenatal care, but on abortion \u2014 and Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez&#8217;s claims to the contrary are misleading and disingenuous.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/liveactionnewsonline\/\">\u201cLike\u201d Live Action News on Facebook<\/a> for more pro-life news and commentary!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Before the House Oversight Committee, Rep.
