At the end of 2020, abortion was officially legalized in Argentina<\/a>. Women are now able to abort their children through 14 weeks of pregnancy, for any reason at all. And for one father, this has led to indescribable heartbreak.<\/p>\n

Franco, who lives in the San Juan province, filed an injunction in April to prevent his ex<\/a> from aborting their child at 12 weeks pregnant. \u201cAs we disagreed, that ended the conversation, but despite that I suggested that she have (the baby) and give it to me. If afterwards she wants to go on with her life, she\u2019ll be able to do so,” Franco told AM 1020 radio in San Juan province. \u201cEverything is focused on women’s rights, but my child also has rights and no one can make a decision concerning him. I have already presented everything I have to the court. Now I hope, please understand, that I just want to give my child the chance to live.”<\/p>\n

Sadly, Judge Rosa Amanda D\u00edas denied his injunction, allowing the woman to go through with the abortion. She ruled that Franco did not question the constitutionality or application of the law, making it \u201ctotally unfounded and outside of the law to deprive any pregnant person in this instance of the possibility of exercising her right in accordance with the aforementioned law.\u201d<\/p>\n

Though he lost in court, public opinion seemed to be behind him, with #TodosConFranco (Everyone with Franco) trending on Argentinian social media. “[I]t\u2019s really outrageous that a father has to go out and ask for something as basic as allowing his child to be born,” Guadalupe Batall\u00e1n, a pro-life activist, tweeted. “Adult women pretend to be strong and empowered but use their power and militancy to kill a baby.\u201d<\/p>\n

Even some lawmakers got involved. Catalina Buitrago, a congresswoman for Buenos Aires province, spoke out on social media. \u201cToday a dad is in tears before the court so they\u2019ll let his child live,” she said. “‘All I’m asking is that you respect my son’s life.’ Let’s make Franco’s appeal be heard.\u201d<\/p>\n

Abortion was legalized in Argentina against the will of the people, 60% of whom opposed it<\/a>. Planned Parenthood helped fund pro-abortion activist groups for 15 years until they finally received the result they wanted \u2014 making this a success for the abortion industry, but a tragedy for the Argentinian people, especially those like Franco, who are personally suffering due to abortion’s cruel violence.<\/p>\n
