On a party-line vote of 51-49, the U.S. Senate<\/span> confirmed<\/span><\/a> Vanita Gupta as associate attorney general in the Biden-Harris administration on April 21. Gupta is former president of the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and served as the head of the civil rights division of the Justice Department under Obama from 2014-2017. But most significant to pro-lifers is the fact that she has a history of pro-abortion comments and will be in a position to promote abortion in her new role.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

During her confirmation hearing, Senator Ted Cruz<\/span> questioned<\/span><\/a> Gupta: \u201cAs I look at your record on every single issue, the positions you\u2019ve advocated for are on the extreme Left\u2026 On the issue of abortion \u2014 is there any restriction whatsoever on an abortion that you believe is permissible?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Ms. Gupta replied by stating that her duty, if confirmed, would be \u201cto federal laws and the Constitution. Roe vs. Wade is established precedent and has been reaffirmed numerous times by the courts. And my duty will be to enforce the federal laws and the Constitution.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSo you\u2019re declining to answer that,\u201d Sen. Cruz concluded.<\/span><\/p>\n

When Cruz asked a follow-up question about whether Gupta believed the government could ban partial-birth abortion, she gave essentially the same evasive answer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But her record fills in any blanks in the factual record Ms. Gupta\u2019s answers may have left. In 2020, for example, she argued against the Little Sisters of the Poor at the Supreme Court, saying they should not receive an exemption from paying for contraceptives, sterilizations, and abortifacients on religious grounds. She claimed that women seeking contraceptives would be discriminated against in such a scenario and said, \u201cReligious freedom does not create a license to discriminate.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Also in 2020, Gupta<\/span> re-tweeted<\/span><\/a> Michelle Williams\u2019s infamous, pro-abortion Golden Globes acceptance speech. And again in June of the same year, Gupta<\/span> applauded<\/span><\/a> the Supreme Court\u2019s decision to overturn Louisiana\u2019s Unsafe Abortion Protection Act in <\/span>June Medical Services v. Russo<\/span><\/i>, saying, \u201cThe Supreme Court reaffirmed today that every individual should have the right to make their own decisions about their health, their families, their lives, and their futures. This is a victory for tireless abortion advocates from Louisiana and around the country\u2026.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The abortion advocacy group NARAL Pro-Choice America lost no time in<\/span> congratulating<\/span><\/a> Ms. Gupta on her confirmation, calling her \u201can unparalleled champion for justice and civil rights who will fight tirelessly for our fundamental freedoms.\u201d Gupta joins a long line of Biden<\/span> appointees<\/span><\/a> who have either<\/span> worked in<\/span><\/a>\u00a0or received support from the abortion industry.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
