The newly-signed legislation includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/legiscan.com\/MT\/bill\/HB140\/2021\">House Bill 140<\/a>, which ensures that pregnant women have the chance to see an ultrasound and listen to their child&#8217;s heartbeat before choosing an abortion.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/legiscan.com\/MT\/bill\/HB136\/2021\">House Bill 136<\/a>, the\u00a0Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. This prohibits abortions after five months, which is the clinically accepted threshold for when preborn children can feel pain.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/legiscan.com\/MT\/bill\/HB171\/2021\">House Bill 171<\/a>, which requires informed consent before a drug-induced abortion (the abortion pill). This means that women must receive an <em>in-person<\/em> prescription for a chemical abortion, and they must sign a consent form saying that they understand the risks, which include death or physical harm. This bill also prohibits abortion-inducing drugs in schools and on school grounds.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Gianforte championed the pro-life legislation in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/GovGianforte\/\">Facebook post<\/a>, writing, &#8220;Life is precious and ought to be protected. Today, I proudly signed into law bills to protect the life of our most vulnerable, the unborn. Thank you to Representative Lola Sheldon-Galloway (R-Great Falls), Representative Amy Regier for Montana House District 6 (R-Kalispell), and Representative Sharon Greef (R-Florence) for carrying these pro-life bills through the Montana Legislature this session.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/montana-bill-state-constitution-personhood-fertilization\/\">Montana bill would amend state constitution to say personhood begins at fertilization<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FGovGianforte%2Fposts%2F185838703362382&amp;width=500&amp;show_text=true&amp;height=746&amp;appId\" width=\"500\" height=\"746\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nThere was a big turnout for the signing ceremony, which was also live-streamed. In his opening remarks, Gianforte publically thanked the many individuals responsible for protecting the lives of the preborn. &#8220;The sun shines brightly on us all. Your tireless work and dedication to the cause of the unborn is why we are here today,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>While Montana legislators have worked hard to advance pro-life legislation in the past, their efforts were thwarted under the previous governor, Steve Bullock. Gianforte, who took office in January, campaigned on a pro-life platform and is making good on his promises.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Treasure State takes a bold leap today in protecting the most vulnerable, and all Montanans can be proud,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sba-list.org\/newsroom\/press-releases\/pro-life-victory-mt-gov-gianforte-signs-three-landmark-bills-protecting-unborn-children-mothers?fbclid=IwAR05IN7c2psBVAlM7cv7uXz-Ethwg5c8Xqd3cPpYIy3Cc3VX3pr1yzzDuNU\">said<\/a> Susan B. Anthony List&#8217;s state policy director, Sue Liebel. &#8220;For years, popular pro-life legislation was blocked under the previous governor, a pro-abortion Democrat. Now with pro-life Governor Greg Gianforte in office, Montana is at the forefront of a groundswell of pro-life momentum nationwide.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Gianforte echoed his commitment to the pro-life cause at the signing ceremony.\u00a0&#8220;There were many who served in this building before us who champion the unborn, people who worked hard to advance the cause of life,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Unfortunately, their efforts were vetoed.
