Legislators in Washington, D.C., introduced two bills this month, each aimed at defunding two pro-abortion groups: The United Nations Population Fund (UNPFA) and Planned Parenthood.<\/p>\n

No Taxpayer Funding for the United Nations Population Fund Act<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) introduced<\/a> the No Taxpayer Funding for the United Nations Population Fund Act on April 13 in the U.S. House of Representatives. The bill would permanently repeal the federal funding of the UNFPA based on the fact that it partners with China, making the UNFPA complicit in China’s horrific population control program including the decades-long\u00a0One-Child Policy<\/a>\u00a0(now a\u00a0Two-Child Policy<\/a>) which includes\u00a0forced abortions<\/a> and sterilizations, and in the ongoing genocide against the Uighur Muslims<\/a>.<\/p>\n

According to the Raoul Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights, China “bears responsibility for an ongoing genocide” and has shown “intent to destroy” the Uighur people.<\/p>\n

The Trump Administration ended funding for the UNFPA in 2017, citing the fund’s partnership with the Chinese government and the government’s forced abortions and sterilizations. It redirected that funding to the US Agency for International Development (USAID) for family planning programs that did not promote, refer or commit abortions. However, earlier this month, President Biden included funding for the UNFPA in his discretionary budget request for the 2022 fiscal year. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said $32.5 million would become available for the UNFPA in 2021.<\/p>\n

“American tax dollars should never directly or indirectly support taking of innocent human life through abortion or the dehumanizing act of involuntary sterilization, and they certainly shouldn’t be used to support the oppressive, America-hating Chines Communist Party in any way whatsoever,” said Roy.<\/p>\n

Protect Funding for Women’s Health Care Act<\/strong><\/p>\n

On April 15, Senators John Kennedy and Joni Ernst introduced<\/a> the Protect Funding for Women’s Health Care Act<\/a> to prevent taxpayer dollars from funding Planned Parenthood. The bill would also protect federal funding for women’s health care services by redirecting the funding from Planned Parenthood to eligible women’s health care providers.<\/p>\n

“We must always fight to protect the most vulnerable of our society, the unborn,” said Ernst. “Sadly, President Biden is working to reverse a rule from the previous administration that prevented taxpayer money from going toward abortion providers.”<\/p>\n

The Biden Administration plans to reverse a Trump administration rule that prevents Title X family planning funding from going to recipients which refuse to separate their family planning from their abortion business, both fiscally and physically. After the rule was implemented, Planned Parenthood withdrew<\/a> from the Title X program because it did not want to comply with the rule by separating its abortion business from its actual health care services.<\/p>\n

Live Action News previously reported<\/a> that Planned Parenthood only serves about 2.1 million women, or 3% of the female population of reproductive age, yet commits 41% of the nation’s abortions<\/a>. Despite ever-increasing taxpayer funding, Planned Parenthood’s actual health care services have been declining. Meanwhile, in 2019, federally qualified health centers (FQHC) in the United States served nearly 30 million people. FQHCs has about 12,000 sites across the United States compared to just about 600 Planned Parenthood facilities.<\/p>\n
