(Pregnancy Help News<\/a>)\u00a0A pro-life OB-GYN chided a group of Vermont clergy that expressed support for abortion as the state\u2019s legislature considered amending the Vermont constitution to establish a \u201cright\u201d to the procedure.<\/p>\n

The clergy had written a letter published in several Vermont news outlets \u201cin support of women\u2019s reproductive liberty and a woman\u2019s right to choose.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr. William Lile<\/a> roundly condemned the public support for abortion, saying the clergy had misused their roles as religious leaders.<\/p>\n

Lile is a board-certified OB-GYN practicing in Florida, who has delivered thousands of babies, instructed OB-GYN residents, and who performs pro-life education and outreach<\/a> via his ProLifeDoc website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He published a video message<\/a> about the clergy\u2019s pro-abortion op-ed, saying that children in the womb are human beings made in the image of God, with tough words for the clerics, both men and women, who\u2019d written the letter.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were priests, there were rabbis, there were reverends, they were pastors and they penned this,\u201d Lile said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd they said – not that we are against this law because we realize that we are created in the image of God at the moment of conception – no, these quote-unquote \u201cmen and women of God\u201d were in favor of this new law that allows abortion at any gestational age in the state of Vermont.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n

The Vermont Senate gave final approval<\/a> to Proposal 5, a constitutional amendment<\/a> establishing a right to abortion, on Friday.<\/p>\n

Prop 5, which declares a \u201cright to personal reproductive liberty,\u201d now moves to the Vermont House, and if approved there, it will go before the state\u2019s voters in a November 2022 referendum.<\/p>\n

Lile spoke in his video message about how the group said that healthcare is a basic human need, and that individuals should have the right to access the highest level available of healthcare.<\/p>\n

He concurred and noted how this then should extend to unborn children.<\/p>\n

\u201cI agree healthcare should be available to all women,\u201d he said. \u201cHealthcare should be available to all children. Healthcare should be available to all men, and healthcare, high quality healthcare, should be available to all babies in the womb.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lile explained that children in the womb are often given medical treatment, which demonstrates that they are people and should be afforded human rights.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe treat the preborn as patients in the womb,\u201d he said. \u201cIf they are a patient than they are a person, and if they are a person then they deserve our protection.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lile listed several scenarios where unborn children<\/a> receive medical treatment and have their lives and health enhanced.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe now will routinely do blood transfusions to babies in the womb,\u201d he said. \u201cWe have done blood transfusions to babies in the womb as early as 18 weeks gestation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are now doing heart surgery – saving lives with heart surgery – to babies in the womb at 22 weeks gestation,\u201d said Lile, \u201cwe’re doing spina bifida corrective surgery, and we are improving the quality of life for these babies for five, 10 years, even longer.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe treat the preborn as patients,\u201d he stated. \u201cIf they are a patient, they are a person.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lile said the clergy\u2019s exclusion of the unborn as being deserving of rights conflicts with the state\u2019s constitution.<\/p>\n

\u201cI looked at the preamble of the constitution of the state of Vermont, and it says that this preamble is to be necessary to guarantee the welfare and safety of the inhabitants of the state of Vermont,\u201d the pro-life physician said. \u201cThese babies are inhabitants of the state of Vermont. They’re just in a different location, they are just in the mother’s womb. And that’s the habitat that they are living in.\u201d<\/p>\n
