Rather non-coincidentally, around the same time frame, The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) updated its abortion &#8220;practice bulletin&#8221; to no longer recommend the use of ultrasound to rule out the possibility of a deadly ectopic pregnancy when prescribing the abortion pill. In other words, the ACOG changed its recommendations to line up exactly with the abortion industry&#8217;s attempts to expand access to the abortion pill.<\/p>\n<p>With a no-test protocol, abortion workers simply believe the abortion client\u2019s\u00a0<em>best guess<\/em>\u00a0at the time of her last menstrual period to determine gestational age, relying on her\u00a0<em>assumed knowledge<\/em>\u00a0of ectopic pregnancy risks as well as blood type and Rh factor \u2014 a dangerous lack of testing which could impact her health and her future pregnancies. Eliminating these tests does nothing to protect women. The object of the protocol is simply increased access, which adds to the abortion industry&#8217;s profits. Live Action News previously <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/industry-making-killing-abortion-pill-sales\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">estimated<\/a> that the abortion industry is grossing nearly $200 million annually in abortion pill sales\u00a0\u2014 twice as much money as initially\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-pill-secrecy-women-deserve-truth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">projected<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 with Planned Parenthood alone taking in approximately half of the sales.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_222731\" style=\"width: 507px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-222731\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-222731\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Image-from-iOS-1-700x700.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"497\" height=\"497\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Image-from-iOS-1-700x700.jpg 700w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Image-from-iOS-1-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Image-from-iOS-1-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Image-from-iOS-1-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Image-from-iOS-1-80x80.jpg 80w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Image-from-iOS-1-960x960.jpg 960w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Image-from-iOS-1-500x500.jpg 500w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Image-from-iOS-1.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 497px) 100vw, 497px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-222731\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Abortion Pill Terminology<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Though many believe the ACOG is an impartial medical organization, it is actually radically\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/american-college-obstetricians-gynecologists-pro-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pro-abortion<\/a>\u00a0and has been\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ibisreproductivehealth.org\/sites\/default\/files\/files\/publications\/Ibis%202016%20990.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">funded<\/a>\u00a0by Ibis Reproductive Health which received\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20200130190128\/https:\/\/ibisreproductivehealth.org\/funders\">funds<\/a>\u00a0directly from U.S. abortion pill manufacturer Danco Laboratories and is currently\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ibisreproductivehealth.org\/funders\">funded<\/a>\u00a0by Danco investor, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation.\u00a0(After Live Action News <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-industry-financial-conflicts-interest-politicians-media\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">exposed<\/a> the ACOG&#8217;s financial conflicts of interest,\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20200130190128\/http:\/\/www.ibisreproductivehealth.org\/funders\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">funding connections<\/a>\u00a0were suddenly scrubbed\u00a0from Ibis\u2019s website.) The ACOG has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/intranet.bixbycenter.ucsf.edu\/publications\/files\/BixbyCenter_10YearReport_2009.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">funded<\/a>\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/paying-millions-abortion-training-taxpayers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bixby Center for Global Reproductive Health<\/a>, where abortionists are trained.<\/p>\n<p>In 2018, the ACOG <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantmakers.io\/profiles\/v0\/476032365-susan-thompson-buffett-foundation\/?query=American%20College%20of%20Obstetrics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">received<\/a> $1.4 million from the Buffett Foundation, and has received hundreds of thousands from the foundation every year for the <a href=\"http:\/\/990s.foundationcenter.org\/990pf_pdf_archive\/476\/476032365\/476032365_201612_990PF.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">past<\/a> several years. Unsurprisingly, Buffett was also one of the first\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/study-funded-abortion-pill-investor-buffett-foundation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">investors<\/a>\u00a0in <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/secrecy-abortion-pill-maker-investors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Danco<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Until last year, the ACOG recommended an ultrasound before the abortion pill<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>ACOG&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20200617202815\/https:\/\/www.acog.org\/clinical\/clinical-guidance\/practice-bulletin\/articles\/2014\/03\/medical-management-of-first-trimester-abortion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">March 2014<\/a>\u00a0Practice Bulletin #143, &#8220;Medical Management of First-Trimester Abortion,&#8221; was in place until last year and recommended ultrasound.<\/p>\n<p>It stated, &#8220;Before medical abortion is performed, gestational age should be confirmed by <strong>clinical evaluation or ultrasound examination<\/strong>&#8221; (emphasis added). At that same time, the ACOG also noted, &#8220;Rh testing is standard of care in the United States, and RhD immunoglobulin should be administered if indicated.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_242432\" style=\"width: 806px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-242432\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-242432\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/ACOG-medication-abortion-guidelines-March-2014-and-Oct-2020-for-abortion-pill.jpg\" alt=\"Image: ACOG medication abortion guidelines March 2014 comparison with Oct 2020 for abortion pill\" width=\"796\" height=\"614\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/ACOG-medication-abortion-guidelines-March-2014-and-Oct-2020-for-abortion-pill.jpg 981w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/ACOG-medication-abortion-guidelines-March-2014-and-Oct-2020-for-abortion-pill-300x231.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/ACOG-medication-abortion-guidelines-March-2014-and-Oct-2020-for-abortion-pill-768x593.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/ACOG-medication-abortion-guidelines-March-2014-and-Oct-2020-for-abortion-pill-700x540.jpg 700w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/ACOG-medication-abortion-guidelines-March-2014-and-Oct-2020-for-abortion-pill-500x386.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 796px) 100vw, 796px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-242432\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">ACOG medication abortion guidelines March 2014 comparison with Oct 2020 for abortion pill<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The ACOG&#8217;s updated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acog.org\/clinical\/clinical-guidance\/practice-bulletin\/articles\/2020\/10\/medication-abortion-up-to-70-days-of-gestation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">October 2020<\/a> Practice Bulletin #225, &#8220;Medication Abortion Up to 70 Days of Gestation,&#8221; clearly warns that &#8220;[m]edication abortion is not recommended for patients with any of the following: confirmed or suspected ectopic pregnancy&#8230;&#8221; and states,\u00a0&#8220;A potential concern when providing early abortion services is the possibility of an undiagnosed ectopic pregnancy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Yet, rather than recommending that the abortion business rule out a deadly ectopic pregnancy by use of ultrasound, the pro-abortion group now recommends that if there are no &#8220;risk factors for ectopic pregnancy,&#8221; <strong>ultrasound confirmation is not necessary.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Before medication abortion is performed, the clinician should confirm pregnancy and estimate gestational age. For patients with regular menstrual cycles, a certain last menstrual period within the prior 56 days, and no signs, symptoms, or risk factors for ectopic pregnancy, a clinical examination or ultrasound examination is not necessary before medication abortion.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acog.org\/womens-health\/faqs\/ectopic-pregnancy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ACOG<\/a>, a &#8220;risk factor&#8221; for an ectopic pregnancy includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Previous ectopic pregnancy<\/li>\n<li>Prior fallopian tube surgery<\/li>\n<li>Previous pelvic or abdominal surgery<\/li>\n<li>Certain sexually transmitted infections (STIs)<\/li>\n<li>Pelvic inflammatory disease<\/li>\n<li>Endometriosis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The likelihood that a teen girl experiencing her first pregnancy will know whether she is at risk is basically <em>zero<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>According to the ACOG, in 2017, it was estimated that &#8220;60% of abortions in the United States occurred at or before 10 weeks of gestation&#8221; and 39% of those were done by abortion pill. The Guttmacher Institute noted that in <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/report-medication-abortion-nearly-40-percent-abortions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2017<\/a>, there were 339,640 chemical abortions (the abortion pill) out of 862,320 total abortions\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/us-abortion-rate-lowest-roe-v-wade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>. Yet\u00a0some abortion pill attempts will fail, often leading to additional abortion drugs or a surgical abortion procedure.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, one way the ACOG says an &#8220;ongoing pregnancy&#8221; can be identified after a <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-abortion-pill-fda-limit-failing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">failed<\/a> chemical abortion is the existence of &#8220;gestational cardiac activity&#8221; \u2014 the heartbeat of the preborn child.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The ACOG&#8217;s magically low ectopic pregnancy numbers for abortion pill patients<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to the ACOG&#8217;s 2020 bulletin, &#8220;The overall ectopic pregnancy rate in the U.S. general population is&#8230; approximately 6 per 1,000 pregnancies among insured patients and 14 per 1,000 among patients who receive Medicaid.&#8221; According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/evidence-you-can-use\/medicaid-coverage-abortion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Guttmacher<\/a>, &#8220;Medicaid was the second most common national payment method (used by 24% of patients).&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Yet the ACOG claims that abortion patients somehow magically demonstrate a lower ectopic pregnancy rate than the national average:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>However, in studies of patients who seek abortion, ectopic pregnancy rates generally are lower. A U.S. study of uterine evacuation procedures performed at less than 6 weeks of gestation found the ectopic pregnancy rate to be 5.9 per 1,000 pregnancies at a time when the national rate was three times higher.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>The largest published study of first-trimester medication abortion patients involved 16,369 patients with pregnancies of 49 days of gestation or less and <strong>yielded a calculated ectopic pregnancy rate of 1.3 per 1,000 pregnancies<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Ironically, both studies cited by ACOG were published well before the U.S. had even approved the abortion pill \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/scholar.google.com\/scholar_lookup?journal=Curr+Prob+Obst+Gyn+F&amp;title=Surgical+abortion+for+gestations+of+less+than+6+weeks&amp;author=J+Edwards&amp;author=M+Creinin&amp;volume=20&amp;publication_year=1997&amp;pages=11-18&amp;\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in 1997<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/1322621\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1992<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who reports complications?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under the U.S. Food and Drug Administration&#8217;s REMS safety system, the requirement to report <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-industry-financial-conflicts-interest-politicians-media\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">abortion pill<\/a> complications lies solely with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-pill-dangerous-safety-requirement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">abortion pill<\/a> manufacturer <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-pill-secrecy-women-deserve-truth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Danco Laboratories<\/a> and generic abortion pill manufacturer\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-pill-investor-millions-generic-company\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GenBioPro<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Women experiencing abortion pill complications may not always return to the facility that sold them the drugs. A recent\u00a0analysis of adverse events\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/drugs\/questions-and-answers-fdas-adverse-event-reporting-system-faers\/fda-adverse-event-reporting-system-faers-public-dashboard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reports<\/a>\u00a0submitted to the FDA revealed that\u00a0abortion pill clients experiencing <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-complications-reported-cant-claim-safe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">complications<\/a> are more likely to present to emergency rooms for care than to the abortion facilities where they obtained the pills.<\/p>\n<p>These\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/study-abortion-pill-complications-underreported-er-managing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">findings<\/a> are another indication that complications such as an undiagnosed ectopic pregnancy could likely go unreported, since\u00a0there is\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/28-states-require-abortion-complications-reported\/\">no federal mandate<\/a>\u00a0to report abortion-related complications<\/em>\u00a0across all 50 states.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/liveactionnewsonline\/?ref=br_rs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cLike\u201d Live Action News on Facebook<\/a> for more pro-life news and commentary!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last year, abortion industry insiders rolled out a \u201cno-test\u201d abortion pill\u00a0protocol.
