Out of hundreds of children in foster homes in Tennessee awaiting adoption, the state\u2019s four largest adoption agencies were only able to find homes for 40 children last year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To help these children, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has announced a public-private initiative called <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/tnfostershope.tn.gov\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TN Fosters Hope<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. According to the group\u2019s website, its mission is to bring together community organizations, businesses, faith communities, and state agencies with the goal of creating \u201chigh quality care and opportunities for children and families impacted by foster care and adoption.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/eight-myths-foster-care-truth\/\">Eight myths and misunderstandings about foster care\u2026 and the truth<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The initiative will be led by the Governor\u2019s Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, which has announced plans to facilitate collaboration between the state\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tn.gov\/dcs.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Department of Children\u2019s Services<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and two leading advocacy groups, Tennessee Kids Belong and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Show Hope<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Tennessee Kids Belong seeks to \u201cempower and equip leaders in the government, business, faith based and creative sectors to end the crisis for kids in foster care,\u201d as outlined by the group\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tnkidsbelong.org\/who-we-are\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">website<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/showhope.org\/our-work\/adoption-aid\/?ads_cmpid=1560287690&amp;ads_adid=59490019416&amp;ads_matchtype=b&amp;ads_network=g&amp;ads_creative=326170313483&amp;utm_term=show%20hope%20adoption&amp;ads_targetid=kwd-365876629596&amp;utm_campaign=&amp;utm_source=adwords&amp;utm_medium=ppc&amp;ttv=2&amp;gclid=CjwKCAjwgOGCBhAlEiwA7FUXklXAjBa6HOP-F-MntdUsb2Z75lBTG5uHtJ2DKq9qrvQWRsc2E329ThoCDoYQAvD_BwE\">Show Hope<\/a> aims to provide adoption aid, medical assistance, pre- and post-adoption support, and other services to help children finding their forever families.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWhen we join forces with the faith community and trusted partners like Tennessee Kids Belong and Show Hope, we can help Tennessee foster kids find permanent, loving homes,\u201d said Gov. Lee according to a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tn.gov\/governor\/news\/2021\/3\/22\/gov--bill-lee-announces-foster-and-adoption-initiative--tn-fosters-hope.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">press release<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u201cI am calling on the faith community to join us as we work to build one of the most adoption-friendly states in the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Statistics show that children who age out of foster care without an adopted family are at an elevated risk of homelessness, criminal behaviors, and other challenges in life. In 2018, 961 children in Tennessee aged out of foster care, according to Tennessee Kids Belong.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;On behalf of the nearly 8,800 children in our care, I thank Gov. Lee and all of our Tennessee Fosters Hope partners for their commitment to improving the lives of children and families in our state.
