The bill would provide $20 million in state matching funds for student scholarships in the North Dakota University System \u2014 but a newly added amendment would bar schools that partner with abortion organizations like Planned Parenthood.<\/p>\n<p>The Challenge Fund program was put in place in 2013 and matches $1 in state funding for every $2 in private donations. The funding goes towards student scholarships, endowed faculty chairs, and educational infrastructure. But Sen. Janne Myrdal introduced an amendment focusing on the relationship between North Dakota State University and Planned Parenthood, which Myrdal says <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedickinsonpress.com\/news\/education\/6936364-North-Dakota-higher-ed-leaders-oppose-abortion-related-amendment-on-student-scholarship-bill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">violates state law<\/a>. Yet NDSU President Dean Bresciani says their partnership with Planned Parenthood deals with sex education, not abortion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/analysis-comprehensive-sex-ed-harming-students\/\">New analysis: Comprehensive sex ed in schools may actually be harming students<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>NDSU would not be permitted to accept a $10.5 million grant from Planned Parenthood, which would be used to educate K-12 teachers how to talk with students about sex \u2014 with Planned Parenthood staffers ostensibly doing the educating. NDSU Associate Vice President Laura McDaniel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kvrr.com\/2021\/02\/19\/senate-okays-amendment-that-bans-ndsu-from-taking-planned-parenthood-grant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told KVRR<\/a> that there are no abortions or medical services involved. \u201cOur faculty received a competitive grant from US Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families,&#8221; she said. &#8220;The project focuses on preventing teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections in at-risk youth through education.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/u7oeSAOZwdk\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The bill passed the Senate and is currently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usnews.com\/news\/best-states\/north-dakota\/articles\/2021-03-15\/bill-aims-to-stop-ndsu-relationship-with-planned-parenthood\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">being studied<\/a> in a House Appropriations Committee. But while Planned Parenthood&#8217;s defenders claim the relationship should be allowed to stand simply because abortion isn&#8217;t involved, the abortion chain&#8217;s record on sex ed isn&#8217;t reassuring.<\/p>\n<p>In a Live Action investigation, Planned Parenthood staffers routinely gave <a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/what-we-do\/investigations\/disturbing-advice-on-sex\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dangerous advice<\/a> to underage children about sex. Minor girls were advised to experiment with BDSM and to role-play. Things like whipping, choking, asphyxiation, violent torture sex, and experimentation with horsewhips, clamps, and ropes were presented as normal and healthy; sex acts which leave welts, burns, and marks were likewise deemed as normal, and not abusive or harmful. Girls were also given advice on how to work their way into having anal sex.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, a former Planned Parenthood sex educator said the abortion business has ulterior motives for their sex ed programs. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-grooms-abortions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Monica Cline<\/a>, Planned Parenthood isn&#8217;t merely educating children about safe sex practices; they&#8217;re promoting and encouraging it, with the goal of grooming girls to use contraceptives and undergo abortions. \u201cThe sex education grooms them for promiscuity. Grooms them for STD treatment, and grooms them for abortion,\u201d Cline said. \u201cTeens are being given false ideas that condoms will cover all the bases,\u201d she continued. \u201cThey do tell them to get tested and treated \u2013 which means coming back to the clinic \u2013 and if they are pregnant they are encouraged to get an abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If Planned Parenthood is allowed to continue partnering with NDSU and other state universities, then the state&#8217;s future teachers could very well be trained to see this kind of damaging information as what they should be teaching their future students.
