{"id":241221,"date":"2021-03-07T13:31:04","date_gmt":"2021-03-07T19:31:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=241221"},"modified":"2021-03-04T18:23:35","modified_gmt":"2021-03-05T00:23:35","slug":"judge-extends-injunction-tennessee-pro-life-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/judge-extends-injunction-tennessee-pro-life-law\/","title":{"rendered":"Judge extends injunction blocking portions of Tennessee&#8217;s pro-life law"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A federal judge has extended a block on a portion of a pro-life law passed in Tennessee last year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Tennessee <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/wapp.capitol.tn.gov\/apps\/Billinfo\/default.aspx?BillNumber=HB2263&amp;ga=111\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">law<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0passed last July bans abortions when a fetal heartbeat is detectable and implements additional abortion restrictions at various stages between six and 24 weeks gestation. The law bans abortion for sex, race, or prenatal diagnosis; mandates ultrasounds to be performed with the sound on for audible heartbeats; and requires abortionists to post information about the possibility of <a href=\"https:\/\/reverseabortionpill.com\">abortion pill reversal<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cpdY97GOK2I\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Almost immediately, the law was taken apart piece by piece as U.S. District Judge William Campbell in Nashville issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/judge-blocks-tennessee-heartbeat-bill-after-signing\/\">temporary restraining order<\/a> blocking the heartbeat and gestational age-based abortion restrictions<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. In September 2020, Judge Campbell also temporarily blocked the abortion pill reversal portion of the law. He also attempted to block the provision outlawing abortion for sex, race, or prenatal diagnosis; however, the Sixth Circuit <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/tennessee-court-upholds-down-syndrome-abortion-ban\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ruled<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that portion could go into effect in November.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/new-york-times-dehumanizes-preborn-heartbeat\/\">The New York Times again dehumanizes preborn babies by denying heartbeat<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most recently, Judge Campbell issued a preliminary injunction extending his injunction against the heartbeat and gestational age restrictions, as well as the mandate to provide information about abortion pill reversal, arguing that \u201cthe public interest will not be harmed by preserving the status quo,\u201d according to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/healthcare\/abortion\/540797-federal-judge-blocks-tennessee-abortion-restrictions?rl=1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Hill<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. He specifically called into question the validity of abortion pill reversal and claimed that \u201cthere is no information about the identity and\/or qualifications of those providers who will be administering \u2018reversal\u2019 treatment.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FSK9ptRccYM\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As Live Action News <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pro-life-obgyn-abortion-pill-reversal\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reported<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, abortion pill reversal is rooted in \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">how abortion pills work, how the hormone progesterone functions in a woman\u2019s body, and the part the bioidentical version of progesterone plays in reversing chemical abortion.\u201d While the first step of a two-step process to abort the baby involves taking a pill (mifepristone) to starve the preborn baby of progesterone and cause the baby\u2019s death, abortion pill reversal works by counteracting the mifepristone with higher dosages of progesterone, a hormone produced by the body naturally. This is intended to overcome the harmful effects of mifepristone.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/reverseabortionpill.com\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Abortion Pill Rescue Network<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> consists of a 24\/7 hotline (<\/span>855-209-4848)\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">connected to a network of 900 rescue providers and centers. To date, the network has saved more than 2,000 lives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tennessee Right to Life blasted the judge\u2019s latest ruling in a Facebook <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/tnrtl\/permalink\/10158818264249526\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">post<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u201cThe work that pro-life Tennesseans and their duly elected officials have done to protect women and their unborn children is under attack by the abortion industry.
