Politifact recently\u00a0attempted to debunk<\/a> Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s statement that “innocent lives will be saved” through the state’s decision to remove abortion businesses from the state Medicaid program. However, Politifact missed the mark. Lives will absolutely<\/em> be saved when the state is finally allowed to end Medicaid funding of businesses like Planned Parenthood.<\/p>\n

Texas has been working to end the Medicaid funding of Planned Parenthood and abortion businesses for years, and the law was set to go into effect on February 4, 2021, after the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the state could defund the abortion industry. But a new lawsuit<\/a> was filed by Planned Parenthood on February 3, alleging that Medicaid patients needed more than the allotted 30 days to find a new health care provider.<\/p>\n

Medicaid does fund abortion<\/strong><\/p>\n

Though Politifact claims that Medicaid is not directly linked to abortions in Texas, it relies on the Hyde Amendment to back up this claim. However, the Hyde Amendment prevents federal<\/em> taxpayer dollars from funding abortions, not state<\/a><\/em>, and the Texas Medicaid program is funded by both the federal and state governments. According to the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute<\/a>, Texas currently\u00a0allows state funding under Medicaid for abortion<\/em> in cases of rape, incest, and risk to the life of the mother.<\/p>\n

In addition, money is fungible<\/a>, and any money flowing from the federal government to Planned Parenthood (or any abortion business) will directly affect the abortion corporation’s budget, freeing up other funds to support Planned Parenthood’s abortion agenda. When abortion visits are coded medically, they are broken down<\/a> into all of the services that are a part of that abortion appointment: office visit, pregnancy test, sonogram, medication, etc. All of these<\/em>\u00a0abortion appointment services can be paid for using Medicaid funding, freeing up other sources of income to fund abortion.<\/p>\n
