A leading figure in the Catholic church in Africa has joined prominent international pro-life voices to condemn the Biden administration\u2019s <\/span>rescinding<\/span><\/a> of the Mexico City Policy, which prevented federal taxpayer dollars from funding organizations committing or referring for abortions overseas.<\/span><\/p>\n

In an <\/span>interview<\/span><\/a> with Crux, Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama of Abuja, Nigeria, railed against the Biden administration\u2019s decision to fund abortions internationally. \u201cThis order does not stand to reason; it violates human dignity,\u201d Kaigama said. \u201cThe President should use his office to prioritize the most vulnerable, including unborn children.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

On January 28th, President Biden repealed the Trump administration\u2019s <\/span>expanded<\/span><\/a> pro-life Mexico City Policy. The policy has been enacted and repealed along party lines ever since first instituted by President Reagan in 1984. Biden subsequently also repealed the Trump administration\u2019s Protect Life Rule, which had prevented federal family planning funds under Title X from being awarded to abortion businesses which refused to separate their abortion services fiscally and physically from birth control services.<\/span><\/p>\n

Archbishop Kaigama lamented that \u201cone of Biden\u2019s first official acts is to promote the destruction of human lives domestically and in developing nations.\u201d He noted that Catholic popes for decades have preached against abortion \u201cas a most grievous violation of God\u2019s commandments,\u201d because \u201cabortion is a direct attack on life that also wounds the woman and undermines the family and above all, it offends God.\u201d Joe Biden has previously stated<\/a> that his Catholic faith is his “foundation.”<\/span><\/p>\n

As reported by Live Action News, Culture of Life Africa <\/span>responded<\/span><\/a> to the Biden administration\u2019s repeal of the pro-life policy by producing a <\/span>video<\/span><\/a> response entitled, \u201cA Message for President Biden:\u00a0 The Unified Voices of Africa.\u201d The video features the voices of African citizens speaking directly to the new president. \u201cWe appeal to Joe Biden. Please do not, do not, do not sponsor abortion in Africa,\u201d says one woman. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to use this opportunity to plead with the incoming U.S. president, Joe Biden, not to sponsor abortion in Africa,\u201d says another woman.<\/span><\/p>\n

Culture of Life Africa president Obianuju Ekeocha noted that Africans had celebrated the the expanded Mexico City Policy that Biden abolished: \u201cThey were actually very happy that the United States was finally recognizing the culture of most of the African people, the desire of most of the African people, the consensus that we have across the different African countries. People were rejoicing over that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
