Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), a group of U.S. Senators have reintroduced the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act which aims to ban abortion after 20 weeks gestation, when it is widely accepted that preborn children are able to feel pain.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ehd.org\/science_main.php?level=i\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Endowment for Human Development<\/a>, at 14 weeks, preborn human beings react to &#8220;light touch.&#8221; A March 2017 study published in the journal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cell.com\/cell\/fulltext\/S0092-8674(17)30287-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cell<\/a> also found that preborn children may be able to feel pain as soon as eight weeks after the discovery of adult-like nervous system patterns, even in their hands and feet. Another study recently revealed that preborn children <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pro-abortion-researcher-preborn-pain-earlier\/\">can feel pain<\/a> <em>no later than<\/em> the end of the first trimester. Despite these facts, 20 weeks remains the commonly accepted age at which preborn children are considered pain-capable.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/uk-abortion-changes-policy-fetal-pain\/\">UK report calls for changes in abortion policy based on new understanding of fetal pain<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pro-life senators have <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pro-abortion-politicians-kill-vote-pain-capable\/\">failed<\/a> multiple times to pass a pain-capable abortion ban. Before leaving office this month, Democrat Rep. Tulsi Gabbard <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/democrat-tulsi-gabbard-pain-capable-preborn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">introduced<\/a> similar legislation in the House. Graham said he believes this legislation is on &#8220;the right side of history.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/poll-americans-oppose-taxpayer-funding-us-abroad\/\">Recent polling<\/a> reveals that 76% of Americans want abortion heavily restricted to, at latest, the first three months of pregnancy, or in cases of rape, incest, and to save the life of the mother.\u00a0While a 20-week ban is a step in the right direction, children should be protected from the moment they come into being: at fertilization.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cpdY97GOK2I\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am proud to once again introduce the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act,&#8221; Graham\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lgraham.senate.gov\/public\/index.cfm\/press-releases?ID=42EF0B92-A5BC-4319-A78A-539C62D3C2E8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>. &#8220;There are only seven countries that allow wholesale abortions at the 20-week period, including China and North Korea. The United States should not be in that club. I don&#8217;t believe abortion, five months into pregnancy, makes us a better nation. America is at her best when she&#8217;s standing up for the least among us, and the sooner we pass this legislation into law, the better.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The most common abortion procedure used in the second trimester is a D&amp;E dismemberment abortion in which a preborn child&#8217;s arms and legs are torn from his or her body and then his or her skull is crushed. In many cases, the <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/leroy-carhart-de-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">child is alive<\/a> when the brutal process begins.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jgw4X7Dw_3k\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The act is co-sponsored by 43 other Republican Senators and includes exemptions for rape and incest and in cases where the life of the mother is at risk. Deliberately killing a child in the womb, however, is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=5TmomK2RB2A\">never necessary<\/a> to save the life of the mother. In an emergency, life-threatening situation, a woman and child are both better served with an emergency C-section \u2014which takes minutes \u2014\u00a0as opposed to a days-long late-term abortion procedure in which the child ends up intentionally dead. Children <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/youngest-preemie-world-21-weeks-going-home\/\">born as young as 21 weeks<\/a> are capable of surviving outside the womb. In addition, a child should not be targeted for abortion because of the circumstances in which she was conceived. Abortion doesn&#8217;t erase rape, and many women who have chosen abortion after rape have said that decision &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/women-pregnant-rape-abortion-trauma\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">just added more layers of trauma<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>If the act, which would not allow women who obtain abortions after 20 weeks illegally, is passed, it is unlikely that President Joe Biden would sign it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/liveactionnewsonline\/\">\u201cLike\u201d Live Action News on Facebook<\/a>\u00a0for more pro-life news and commentary!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Led by Sen.
