Since the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in 2020 and the subsequent appointment of Justice Amy Coney Barrett in her place, abortion advocates have been shifting their game plan out of fear that Roe v. Wade<\/em> will be overturned. In the event that\u00a0this occurs, laws surrounding abortion would be handled at the state level, which means for pro-lifers, the challenges will continue.<\/p>\n

States with pro-life legislatures will likely ban abortion or severely restrict it. Abortion advocates may shift at least some of their attention to expanding their programs aimed at shuffling pregnant women from pro-life areas to abortion-friendly states. There will be massive fundraising campaigns and grassroots efforts to ensure abortion remains legal through all nine months of pregnancy in as much of the country as they can secure. In fact, that particular effort has already begun in states like Vermont and Massachusetts. Pro-lifers must be prepared.<\/p>\n

1. Vote.\u00a0<\/strong>One of the easiest ways to help prepare for the end of Roe v. Wade<\/em> is to vote pro-life, especially at the state level. What does “vote pro-life” mean? It means to vote against politicians attempting to expand or codify abortion into state law.\u00a0At this point, the pro-life movement needs more pro-life politicians of all political parties\u00a0in state legislatures to fight back against the culture of death.<\/p>\n

Pro-life politicians will work to stop pro-abortion laws in their tracks and to introduce laws that not only limit or ban abortion but offer support to women facing unplanned pregnancies. These legislators can also work to combat maternal mortality rates, especially among Black women, and to fight efforts to legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.<\/p>\n

2. Build up the culture of life.<\/strong> Start in your own home building up the culture of life. Don’t be afraid to teach your children about abortion in age-appropriate ways. (Here’s how<\/a>.)\u00a0If you don’t teach them that abortion is wrong, they will learn from others \u2014 schools, TV, movies, music, magazines \u2014 that abortion is right. Teach them about modesty and purity and why premarital sex is not freeing, but all too often leads to the pain and suffering of men<\/a>, women<\/a>, and children<\/a>.<\/p>\n

3. Fund and build pro-life pregnancy centers.\u00a0<\/strong>If abortion becomes a state matter, there may be many states that ban abortion completely. If that’s the case, the abortion industry will be there<\/em> to take women across the state borders for abortions. Pro-lifers need to be there first with tangible assistance to give women real support and show them that they are capable of great things \u2014 including being a mother.<\/p>\n

4. Support families facing a prenatal diagnosis.\u00a0<\/strong>Even if abortion is outlawed in a state, there is a strong possibility that eugenic abortion will still exist. Many parents are told by their doctors that raising a child with a disability is too hard emotionally and financially. Parents are sometimes told they are selfish for allowing a child with a disability to be born, or that abortion is the compassionate thing to do. We must offer support to these families who are full of fear and doubt.<\/p>\n

If you are the parent of a child with special needs, you can help the most by offering to mentor parents who receive such a diagnosis and by being there for them throughout their pregnancy and beyond. Start online support groups and open the communication so that women have the information they need to choose life.<\/p>\n

5. Support and open maternity homes.\u00a0<\/strong>Maternity homes don’t have to be large undertakings, but they are necessary to help women and girls who may face being kicked out of their homes or abandoned if they don’t abort. If there is a maternity home in your area, support it. If not, start one \u2014 or you could even considering offering your guest room or guest house to an expectant mother in need.<\/p>\n

6. Work with churches.\u00a0<\/strong>Churches have the opportunity to help and support women within their own communities. Start a support group for single moms. Join with\u00a0Embrace Grace<\/a>\u00a0to help women and girls facing unplanned pregnancies. Be the hands and feet of Jesus to those who need help.<\/p>\n

7. Support child care.\u00a0<\/strong>Women who are in school or college while facing an unplanned pregnancy may think they have to choose abortion because they don’t have someone who can care for their child. The ability to afford a quality daycare could mean the difference between life or death for a baby. Inquire with a pregnancy center near you about offering to financially assist a woman in paying for child care, or reach out to your local college or university about providing child care on campus<\/a>.<\/p>\n

8. Create education funds or scholarships.\u00a0<\/strong>If you are able, look into creating scholarships<\/a> or education funds for single mothers and pregnant students. Affording college is difficult enough for non-mothers, but having a child to care for adds an added layer of stress.<\/p>\n

9. Foster or adopt.\u00a0<\/strong>If you’ve ever considered becoming a foster or adoptive parent, now is the time. Many children are in need of a stable home, even if it’s only for a short amount of time until they can be reunited with their families. Strong and loving foster families are very much needed in every state.<\/p>\n

Whether or not President Joe Biden codifies Roe v. Wade<\/em> into law or the Supreme Court overturns the original decision, pro-lifers can help to end abortion without the support of political parties. Abortion can end when women are truly free to choose life \u2014\u00a0but they need support, encouragement, and hope to do so.<\/p>\n
