For the fourth year in a row, an anti-pregnancy center bill has been introduced in the Connecticut State Senate. Each time in the past, the bill has failed<\/a>; however, pro-abortion lawmakers refuse to back down, fighting to paralyze and shut down the non-profit, donor-funded organizations which provide aid to more than two million clients and their children every year across the United States, free of charge.<\/p>\n

Senate Bill 835<\/a>, An Act Concerning Deceptive Advertising Practices of Limited Services Pregnancy Centers, aims to “prohibit deceptive advertising practices by limited services pregnancy centers.” After a pregnancy center moved into the same building as an abortion business and NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut in Hartford, NARAL fueled that bill, in an\u00a0effort<\/a> to dictate how pregnancy centers advertise their services (while simultaneously downplaying what those services are).<\/p>\n

When women don’t know about their other options or the help available to them, they frequently feel abortion is their only<\/em> choice. Many choose it out of desperation, without informed consent \u2014\u00a0and sometimes even against their wills.<\/p>\n

The truth is that pregnancy centers provide women with free pregnancy tests, free ultrasounds, free baby gear, free clothing, and assistance with other needs such as housing, medical care, education, parenting classes, job placement, and more. Some pregnancy centers also offer limited medical services<\/a> and many have medical professionals serving on staff or as volunteers<\/a>. Services vary from center to center and women have often shared their joy at having been given a way out of abortion.<\/p>\n

The deception isn’t in the advertising of pregnancy centers as places where pregnant women can receive help, but rather in the lie that the abortion industry provides women with care. The only option women truly receive from the abortion industry is abortion. Even industry leader Planned Parenthood, which falsely claims abortion is only four percent of its services<\/a>, has proven<\/a> repeatedly that its focus is abortion<\/a>. Despite an overall national decline in abortion rates, Planned Parenthood committed a record 345,672<\/strong> abortions<\/a>\u00a0in 2018. Most of its other services declined.<\/p>\n

Pregnancy resource centers exist to give women real options, and they cut into the business of the abortion industry, which profits from women’s desperation. This is what is truly behind efforts to shut down pregnancy centers.<\/p>\n
