The United Nations (UN) hailed Argentina\u2019s new abortion law \u201ca crucial step in eliminating discrimination against women & girls\u201d in a <\/span>tweet<\/span><\/a> after international abortion organizations pushed the country to become the third in Latin American to legalize abortion.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The UN made this absurd claim, though it is the same intergovernmental organization whose own research makes it clear that abortion often results in tragic discrimination against women and girls. For instance, a UN report found that <\/span>1.2 million girls each year are missing worldwide due to sex-selective abortions<\/span><\/a>. China and India suffer from major gender imbalances, with India bracing themselves the loss of <\/span>seven million baby girls<\/span><\/a> who might otherwise have been born by 2030. The UNFPA has also <\/span>decried the practice<\/span><\/a>, saying,\u00a0\u201cThe rise in sex selection is alarming as it reflects the persistent low status of women and girls.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
