This past year, she opened her second restaurant.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was really about changing my mindset as well to feel like I&#8217;m not necessarily unable to do something, but just to think of creative solutions, to achieve the same goals in a different way,&#8221; she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mashed.com\/73956\/untold-truth-masterchef\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">explained<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Though she tried to hide her visual impairment in college, she soon learned that her blindness does not define who she is.\u00a0She achieved her goal of learning to cook, and her family and friends pushed her to audition for MasterChef. Though her degree is in creative writing, she stole the show as a chef.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/blind-premature-jazz-pianist-matthew-whitaker\/\">Blind from premature birth, jazz pianist Matthew Whitaker is a scientific wonder<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After winning, she penned a cookbook called &#8220;Recipes from My Home Kitchen&#8221; with a foreword from Ramsay himself. She also judged the show&#8217;s Vietnam edition, worked as a private chef, and appeared on the TV show Four Senses, a cooking series dedicated to people who are visually impaired. Then, in 2019, she and her husband\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstonchronicle.com\/entertainment\/restaurants-bars\/article\/How-Christine-Ha-went-from-MasterChef-14281893.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">opened<\/a> The Blind Goat restaurant, and in 2020, she <a href=\"https:\/\/houston.eater.com\/2020\/9\/30\/21494742\/christine-has-xin-chao-houston-tony-nguyen-saigon-house-beavers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">opened<\/a>\u00a0Vietnamese restaurant Xin Chao.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?height=476&amp;href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fgoalcast%2Fvideos%2F213530600430378%2F&amp;show_text=false&amp;width=380\" width=\"380\" height=\"476\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In order to make cooking a bit easier to navigate, Ha <a href=\"https:\/\/belocipriani.com\/mobility-disability\/an-interview-with-the-blind-cook-christine-ha\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">taps into technologies<\/a> such as tactile stickers to mark burner knobs and appliances, a digital talking scale and thermometer, a liquid level indicator, and Braille labels for spices. She wants other visually impaired chefs to not be afraid to make mistakes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Yes, play it safe at the beginning by having a sighted person around to help. But you only get stronger by making and learning from your mistakes. I still make mistakes all the time in the kitchen.
