The date of January 18, 2021 has been set aside to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who led a nonviolent movement for the civil rights of Black Americans in the 1960s. King’s important legacy teaches us to never be silent in the face of injustice against any group of vulnerable humans. His words are even more powerful in light of this dangerous time in history for preborn children who are targeted for violent death from abortion.<\/p>\n

In his letter to clergy<\/a> from the Birmingham jail, Dr. King wanted to convey how critical it is for good people to stand and say no in the face of discrimination and evil. “Actually, we who engage in nonviolent direct action are not the creators of tension,” he wrote. “We merely bring to the surface the hidden tension that is already alive. We bring it out in the open, where it can be seen and dealt with.”<\/p>\n

Dr. King later warned, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,” and said, “Justice too long delayed is justice denied.”<\/p>\n

Dr. King’s words of wisdom still ring true in our day, at a time when 2,363 preborn little girls and boys are murdered every day by abortion. They inspire us to shed light on the darkness of abortion, so often hidden in our country.<\/p>\n

Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry were birthed by eugenics<\/strong><\/h4>\n

According to the most recent data published<\/a> by Planned Parenthood’s former \u201cspecial affiliate<\/a>,\u201d the Guttmacher Institute, there were\u00a0862,320<\/strong>\u00a0innocent preborn babies killed by abortion in 2017. Tragically,\u00a0between 2000 and 2017<\/a>, a total of\u00a020,057,120 abortions have been reported to the Guttmacher Institute \u2014 and interestingly, over one quarter (26%) of those procedures (5,281,838) were committed by taxpayer-funded Planned Parenthood, founded by a woman steeped in eugenics<\/a> and closely affiliated with white supremacists<\/a>\u00a0like\u00a0Lothrop Stoddard,<\/a>\u00a0an Exalted Cyclops<\/a>\u00a0of the Massachusetts chapter of the Ku Klux Klan.<\/p>\n

Live Action News has\u00a0documented<\/a>\u00a0how Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger was\u00a0a member of the Eugenics Society and a vocal proponent of\u00a0eugenic sterilization<\/a>, who\u00a0admitted<\/a>\u00a0to meeting with members of the Klan. But\u00a0Planned Parenthood\u00a0itself<\/a>\u00a0was birthed<\/a>\u00a0by the\u00a0eugenics community<\/a>, even receiving free rent from eugenics organizations. In addition, Planned Parenthood\u2019s first physician president,\u00a0Alan F. Guttmacher<\/a>\u00a0(founder of the Guttmacher Institute), served as a VP of the Eugenics Society before leading Planned Parenthood into the highly profitable business of\u00a0committing<\/a> abortions.<\/p>\n

Many Black leaders once held\u00a0suspicions<\/a> toward Planned Parenthood and other like-minded groups because the Black community believed birth control and abortion were tools of Black genocide. Some still feel this way.<\/p>\n

Because of this, in\u00a01966,\u00a0Dr. Guttmacher<\/a>, president of PPFA at that time,\u00a0told<\/a> a symposium at the University of California Medical Center, “The only way the mounting feeling that birth control is a tool of racism can be handled is to\u00a0involve knowledgeable leaders from the minority groups<\/strong>\u00a0who understand and are favorable to the philosophy of birth control. They, in turn, must translate their appreciation of the contribution which birth control can make toward family stability to their own people.” (emphasis added)<\/p>\n

That same year, Planned Parenthood gave its most infamous award, the Margaret Sanger award<\/a>, to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It was\u00a0accepted<\/a>\u00a0by his wife, Coretta Scott King, rather than by MLK himself. Years later, the award<\/a>, along with Sanger’s connections to Planned Parenthood, have been progressively and systematically\u00a0purged<\/a>\u00a0from Planned Parenthood’s brand in an attempt to further hide Planned Parenthood’s reason for existence.<\/p>\n

By 1968<\/a>, the same year that Dr. King was assassinated, Planned Parenthood began\u00a0calling<\/a>\u00a0for the decriminalization of abortion. In his book, “Ten Blocks from the White House,”\u00a0Washington Post\u00a0editor and author Ben W. Gilbert captured some of the thoughts King’s mourners expressed as they left King’s memorial service held at Howard University in Washington, D.C.\u00a0Gilbert observed, “Speaker after speaker took the microphone to suggest that the white man was bent on exterminating the Black man in America. The birth control program was cited as an attempt to drive down the black population.”<\/p>\n

A year later,\u00a0a 1969 New York Times article\u00a0acknowledged<\/a>\u00a0many leaders sitting on Planned Parenthood\u2019s board were in favor of coercive population control. The paper\u00a0quoted a Planned Parenthood board member as saying, \u201cWhat it all comes down to is that\u00a0we want the poor to stop breeding while we retain our freedom to have large families<\/strong>. It\u2019s strictly a class point of view.\u201d (emphasis added)<\/p>\n

Abortion is not the “dream” realized<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Today, abortion disproportionately impacts the Black community.<\/p>\n

In\u00a02018<\/a>, data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) revealed that the Black\u00a0abortion rate\u00a0was nearly\u00a03.4 times higher<\/em>\u00a0than the white abortion rate<\/u>\u00a0(21.2 v. 6.3) and\u00a01.9 times higher<\/em>\u00a0than the Hispanic\u00a0abortion rate\u00a0<\/u>(21.2 v 10.9).<\/p>\n

Tragically, while Black Americans made up 12.1% of the\u00a0population<\/a>\u00a0in 2018, they accounted for an astounding 33.6% of all abortions. The numbers reveal an\u00a0estimated<\/em>\u00a0208,183 Black abortions in 2018, which translates to an estimated\u00a0570\u00a0Black babies<\/u>\u00a0killed every single day by abortion. As a result of years of eugenic targeting of the Black community for abortion, Live Action News estimates that in the past decade (2010<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a02018<\/a>)\u00a0well\u00a0over two million Black babies have lost their lives due to abortion.<\/p>\n

In King’s famous “I Have a Dream<\/a>” speech, the civil rights icon properly cited the Declaration of Independence: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal….”<\/p>\n
