The\u00a0COVID-19<\/a> pandemic had a direct impact on US abortions in 2020. While some abortion facilities closed in 2020, the abortion lobby and Planned Parenthood skillfully used the pandemic to expand abortion. Still, the pandemic has impacted abortion facilities financially, which may be a motive behind the call to repeal the federal Hyde Amendment<\/a>, which would force American taxpayers to fund abortion on demand through Medicaid.<\/p>\n

One thing the industry knows full well is that when abortion is\u00a0subsidized<\/a>\u00a0by taxpayers,\u00a0abortions increase<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In 2020, the abortion industry\u00a0expanded<\/a>\u00a0abortion pill clinical trials and\u00a0rolled out a \u2018no-test\u2019 abortion protocol<\/a> under the guise of COVID-19, despite the fact that they had this plan in the works prior<\/a> to the pandemic.\u00a0They also pushed to do away with the US Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) REMS safety protocol in order to flood the market with online\u00a0DIY abortion pill<\/a> websites. These websites are essentially\u00a0becoming<\/a>\u00a0pill dispensaries during the pandemic. Also in defiance of the FDA, abortion profiteers including\u00a0Planned Parenthood<\/a>\u00a0began to\u00a0commit<\/a> chemical abortions past the approved FDA gestational age limit, knowing the failure rate<\/a> of the abortion pill increases with gestational age<\/em>.<\/p>\n

In May 2020, the pro-abortion\u00a0American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists<\/a> filed a lawsuit<\/a> against the FDA, claiming that requiring mifepristone to be dispensed in person<\/em> during the pandemic constituted an \u201cundue burden\u201d on women seeking abortion. As a result,\u00a0US District Judge Theodore D. Chuang allowed<\/a> abortion pills to be distributed without<\/a> an in-person visit during the COVID-19 pandemic,\u00a0despite<\/a> the increased\u00a0risk<\/a> to women.<\/p>\n

In October<\/a>, the first online pharmacy in the US announced plans to ship abortion pills to patients across the country during COVID-19. Shortly thereafter, virtual abortion pill dispensaries,\u00a0largely unregulated and potentially dangerous for the women and girls they target, began to flood<\/a>\u00a0the internet.\u00a0It is likely that more abortion pill websites may pop up, given that the sales of abortion pills are\u00a0estimated<\/a>\u00a0to be nearly $200 million annually \u2014 twice as much revenue as initially projected<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In response,\u00a0Live Action released its “Abortion Pill Kills”\u00a0report<\/a> and website<\/a>, and\u00a0led<\/a> a coalition of groups to call<\/a> on members of Congress to ban mifepristone, the abortion pill, and its generics. Live Action News exposed<\/a> racist and eugenics motives<\/a> behind the abortion pill and the glaring conflicts of interest<\/a> surrounding this dangerous<\/a> drug regimen.<\/p>\n

COVID-19’s impact on abortion facilities\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

There is an indication<\/a> that the economic strain brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic may be financially impacting independent abortion businesses. Recently, Michigan abortionist Jen Villavicencio claimed<\/a> multiple abortion businesses in her state reduced their hours or closed during the pandemic. Alice Mark, Medical Director for National Abortion Federation also\u00a0admitted<\/a>\u00a0some \u201cindependent\u201d abortion facilities were impacted due to aging abortionists unwilling or unable to travel during the pandemic. Spokespersons at the Whole Woman’s Health abortion chain and the Huntsville-based Alabama Women\u2019s Center for Reproductive Alternatives claimed<\/a>\u00a0either the travel restrictions or closures also negatively impacted their finances.<\/p>\n

In March 2020, the Abortion Care Network (ACN)\u00a0reported<\/a> that 92% of independent abortion facilities had \u201cindicated a need for financial support to continue providing care during the pandemic.\u201d ACN also\u00a0claimed<\/a> the pandemic impacted staff reductions due to quarantine or illness or reduced surgical abortions. In December 2020, Nikki Madsen, ACN\u2019s executive director,\u00a0told<\/a> Vice that finances are leading to clinic closures.<\/p>\n

According to Vice<\/a>:<\/p>\n

The Abortion Care Network asked its 150-plus member clinics how much money they anticipated losing every month. Nearly 27 percent said they faced losing between $50,000 and $99,000; 10 percent anticipated losing upwards of $100,000.<\/em><\/p>\n

In total, 92 percent of the responding clinics \u201cindicated a need for financial support to continue providing care during the pandemic,\u201d in the words of that March survey.<\/em><\/p>\n

They said that they\u2019d had to add telemedicine services, as well as pause or reduce services like STI treatment or birth control.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cIt is hard to put a positive spin on things right now,”\u00a0Madsen told Vice. “We are in a really challenging time for abortion rights\u2014 the most challenging time I\u2019ve ever seen in my lifetime, frankly.\u201d<\/p>\n

Planned Parenthood to weather pandemic<\/strong><\/p>\n

Despite financial hardships and potential closures among independent abortion facilities, abortion insiders openly\u00a0admit<\/a> that Planned Parenthood is uniquely poised to weather the pandemic.\u00a0After all, the abortion corporation\u00a0receives over half a billion\u00a0taxpayer<\/a>\u00a0dollars every year,\u00a0netting<\/a>\u00a0millions in excess revenue as a result.<\/p>\n

Planned Parenthood has been mired in scandals, accusations of fraud, and is presently<\/a>\u00a0“steeped in white supremacy\u201d and racism. Still, the media gave them a pass when Planned Parenthood put out a call<\/a> for PPE at the start of the pandemic, knowing it was in short supply, and then used the pandemic as a scapegoat<\/a> for issuing sweeping lay-offs.<\/p>\n

In April\u00a02020<\/a>, Planned Parenthood used<\/a>\u00a0the\u00a0COVID-19 pandemic<\/a>\u00a0to roll out a nationwide telemedicine program likely to increase abortion pill sales. Planned Parenthood provides about half<\/a>\u00a0of all chemical abortions, and abortion is a significant source of the corporation\u2019s revenue.<\/p>\n

By summer, Planned Parenthood (along with other abortion providers<\/a>)\u00a0somehow improperly received<\/a>\u00a0millions of dollars in COVID-19 relief funds<\/a>\u00a0distributed under the CARES Act\u2019s Paycheck Protection Program (PPP).<\/p>\n

Despite numerous lockdowns<\/a>\u00a0and shuttered businesses, Planned Parenthood is also expanding its abortion market share, (currently committing at least 40 percent of all abortions in the US), a trend that has been years in the making<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Only days ago,\u00a0Planned Parenthood’s president Alexis McGill Johnson\u00a0told<\/a> the Washington Post that abortion is “critically important” to what the corporation does. In addition, despite years of falsely claiming abortion was a small part of the corporation’s services, McGill is now suggesting that this language “stigmatizes” abortion.<\/p>\n

“We are a proud abortion provider,” the Planned Parenthood president stated.<\/p>\n
