The vote comes two weeks after the Chamber of Deputies, the lower house of Argentina&#8217;s Congress, <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/lower-house-argentina-congress-votes-legalize-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">voted<\/a> in favor of abortion.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, abortion in the country was only allowed in cases of rape or when the mother&#8217;s health was considered to be at risk (intentionally killing a child through abortion is <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-never-medically-health-care\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">never truly medically necessary<\/a>). Photo via Facebook.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Argentina&#8217;s President Alberto\u00a0Fern\u00e1ndez had <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/argentina-president-legalize-abortion-end-2020\/\">vowed<\/a> to legalize abortion during his presidency and promised he will sign this bill into law. Pope Francis, who is from Argentina, had expressed his opposition to the bill and called abortion the same as <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pope-francis-abortion-like-hitman\/\">hiring &#8220;a hitman&#8221;<\/a> to kill innocent human beings.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the citizens of Argentina are considered to be pro-life, and <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/thousands-march-argentina-protest-efforts-legalize-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thousands<\/a> marched against this bill to legalize abortion.\u00a0\u201cThe Argentine people are pro-life,\u201d one anonymous participant told reporters. \u201c[&#8230;] I know there are unexpected pregnancies, I respect women\u2019s rights. But I don\u2019t recognise abortion as a right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lRDnVSMr5j0\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, the country of Ireland also legalized abortion and has since then <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/irish-government-3-million-chemical-abortions-2019\/\">spent millions<\/a> in taxpayer-funded first trimester chemical abortions alone. The country has also seen <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortions-surge-by-nearly-150-in-ireland-after-legalization\/\">skyrocketing abortion rates<\/a>, abortion survivors <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-survivors-left-die-ireland\/\">left to die<\/a>, an economically concerning <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/ireland-low-birth-rate-economic-collapse\/\">record low<\/a> birth rate, and a <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/ireland-study-abortionists-internal-conflict-killing\/\">marked discomfort<\/a> among many abortionists to actually commit the abortions legalized by the government.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/impoverished-women-argentina-america-agree-abortion\/\">Impoverished women in America and Argentina agree: Abortion is not what they need<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While major media outlets are reporting the legalization of abortion in Argentina as a win for women&#8217;s rights just as they did in Ireland, women in Argentina recently reached out to Pope Francis asking him to help them defeat abortion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe write to your Holiness, with the desire to ask for you to help us express to public opinion that we feel prisoners in a situation where our own family is compromised, as are our teenage daughters and future generations, that grow old with the idea that\u00a0<strong><u>our life is not wanted<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0and that we don\u2019t have a right to have children because we are poor,\u201d the women <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/impoverished-women-argentina-america-agree-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a> on November 18 (emphasis original). They say that abortion advocates in Argentina are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cruxnow.com\/church-in-the-americas\/2020\/11\/bishops-aim-to-get-ahead-of-argentinas-abortion-debate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">targeting<\/a>\u00a0poor women for abortion and have faced pressure to not have children.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fsecularprolife%2Fposts%2F3770853892979933&amp;width=500&amp;show_text=true&amp;height=743&amp;appId\" width=\"500\" height=\"743\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>However,\u00a0Fern\u00e1ndez, under heavy pro-abortion pressure, determined that because illegal abortions happen anyway, that was reason enough to legalize the horrific act.\u00a0\u201cThe debate is not about deciding whether or not there should be abortion,&#8221; he <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/argentina-president-legalize-abortion-end-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>. &#8220;Abortions occur in clandestine form, placing at risk the health and lives of the women who submit to them. The dilemma we must overcome is whether abortions are to be clandestine or within the Argentine health system.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>However, though murder and rape are illegal, those acts still occur, so it does not logically follow that they should be legalized.
