The Hip Hop Homies with Extra Chromies was founded in 2018 by a board member and volunteer for <a href=\"https:\/\/sharingds.org\/programs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sharing Down Syndrome Arizona<\/a>, with the goal of offering a fun, social activity that promotes physical fitness \u2014 and now they&#8217;re releasing dance videos and giving performances.<\/p>\n<p>The group performed to &#8220;Like It&#8217;s Christmas&#8221; by the Jonas Brothers, decked out in holiday gear and dancing in a Christmas tree farm. They danced among the trees, twirled with tinsel, and even shared kisses under the mistletoe.<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DMvIW2QymaI\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>People with Down syndrome are often said to be &#8220;suffering,&#8221; or have lives that are not worth living. In fact, only <a href=\"http:\/\/www.downsyndromeprenataltesting.com\/physicians-too-many-doing-down-syndrome-prenatal-testing-wrong\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">11% of women<\/a> report having a positive Down syndrome diagnosis experience, while <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brianskotko.com\/documents\/ajmgprenatalguidelinesfinal.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">13% of doctors<\/a> openly admit to emphasizing the negative aspects of Down syndrome as a means of pressuring mothers into abortion.<\/p>\n<p>Yet as this video shows, people with Down syndrome are not suffering; they lead fulfilling, happy lives. One <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC3740159\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">study<\/a> found that over 95% of people with Down syndrome are happy with who they are,\u00a0with how their lives are, and with how they looked. Virtually all expressed happiness and love for their families, and it isn&#8217;t a one-sided affection. In another <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC3348944\/\">study<\/a>, 96% of siblings said they love their brother or sister with Down syndrome, and 94% said they felt proud of them. Less than 10% said they were embarrassed, and 88% of older siblings said they felt their brother or sister with Down syndrome made them a better person.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/atlantic-stops-short-condemning-down-syndrome-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eugenic abortions<\/a> of people with Down syndrome has been skyrocketing across the globe, even as people with Down syndrome are living longer, healthier lives than ever before. In Denmark, for example, only 18 people <em>total<\/em> were <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/shock-18-babies-down-syndrome-denmark-2019\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">born with Down syndrome<\/a> last year.<\/p>\n<p>And so many people speak openly of their belief that Down syndrome makes life less worth living \u2014 seemingly not knowing or caring that people with Down syndrome <em>can hear them<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>As Charlotte Fien, a Down syndrome self-advocate, said in <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/woman-down-syndrome-un-extinction\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a speech before the United Nations<\/a>, her life is often devalued. \u201cA mother\u2019s womb is the most dangerous place for a baby with Down syndrome to be. Governments and health ministers are keen to get rid of us. Some countries like the Netherlands have put a price tag on our heads. They think the world will be better without people like me,\u201d she said, adding, \u201cHow is that acceptable to target a group of human beings for extinction? Is that not what eugenics is? To get rid of an entire group of people?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yet videos like these from the Hip Hop Homies should change perceptions on what life with Down syndrome is like. It isn&#8217;t an empty, meaningless life filled with misery and suffering.
