Wade went &#8216;too far.&#8217; Now, he intends to take it further."},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On December 14, the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2020\/12\/14\/electoral-college-biden-victory-444952\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Electoral College officially voted<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to make Joseph R. Biden, Jr. the 46th President of the United States. Biden, who previously served as the first Roman Catholic Vice President of the United States under President Barack Obama, will become the second Roman Catholic president. John F. Kennedy was the first. Biden has, over the years, gradually supported more pro-abortion positions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Biden once opposed <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Biden entered the US Senate in 1973, the same month that the Supreme Court ruled in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Roe v. Wade<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that women have a fundamental right to <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.abortionprocedures.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">abortion<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. At the time, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/joe-biden-speaks-broadly-abortion-planned-parenthood-event-1445394#:~:text=In%20a%20Washingtonian%20profile%20published%20the%20year%20after,to%20say%20what%20should%20happen%20to%20her%20body.%22\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Biden publicly opposed the decision<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/news\/politics\/fact-check-does-joe-biden-support-late-term-abortion-up-until-birth-like-donald-trump-claimed\/ar-BB19KVIJ\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">saying<\/span><\/a>,<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI don\u2019t like the Supreme Court decision on abortion. I think it went too far. I don&#8217;t think that a woman has the sole right to say what should happen to her body.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Biden once opposed taxpayer funding of abortion<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Biden was an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/03\/29\/us\/politics\/biden-abortion-rights.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">early supporter of the Hyde Amendment<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which bans federal taxpayer funding of elective abortions, including through Medicaid. He also supported a constitutional amendment to allow states to overturn <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Roe<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Then,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in 1983, Biden voted against that same constitutional amendment that he had previously supported.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Biden once opposed funding abortions in foreign countries<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 1984, Biden supported the \u201cMexico City Policy\u201d first put in place under President Reagan, which <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/01\/23\/world\/trump-ban-foreign-aid-abortions.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">prohibits federal funding for international organizations<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that provide abortion referrals and counseling, or which advocate for the decriminalization of abortion in foreign countries. In <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/what-is-the-mexico-city-policy\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1993<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, President Clinton rescinded this policy, which was reinstated in 2001 under President Bush. President Obama then rescinded the policy again in 2009, and President Trump again reinstated the policy in 2017. Biden is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/administration\/525773-biden-set-to-roll-back-trump-rules-on-abortion\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">expected to rescind the policy by executive order<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> upon taking office in January of 2021.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 1994, Biden insisted, \u201cThose of us who are opposed to abortion should not be compelled to pay for them.\u201d Throughout the 1990s, Biden consistently favored banning partial-birth abortion and voted in favor of a 2003 federal ban. But in 2007, when the US Supreme Court upheld the federal partial-birth abortion ban in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gonzales v. Carhart<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Biden criticized the ruling as \u201cpaternalistic.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Biden&#8217;s positions eventually\u00a0became fully pro-abortion<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When running for president in 2008, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/id\/wbna18381961#.XJKTZRNKjfY\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Biden said on <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meet the Press<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> he was \u201cprepared to accept\u201d the Catholic Church\u2019s view<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that life begins at conception and that he was \u201cstill opposed to public funding for abortion.\u201d When asked in the same interview about his changing views on abortion, Biden said,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI was 29 years old when I came to the United States Senate, and I have learned a lot&#8230; I\u2019m a practicing Catholic, and it is the biggest dilemma for me in terms of comporting my&#8230; religious and cultural views with my political responsibility.\u201d He went on to defend <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Roe<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to being \u201cas close to we\u2019re going get\u201d in a pluralistic society of multiple religious faiths to dealing with the moral issue of abortion.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By 2020, Biden had come to support <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/biden-agenda-women-abortion-taxpayer-dollars\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">taxpayer-funded abortion<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/biden-vows-make-roe-v-wade-law\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">codification of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Roe<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> into law. He also reversed his previous position on the<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/study-hyde-amendment-saved-2-4-million-lives\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hyde Amendment<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Biden also plans to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/joe-biden-plans-restore-federal-funding-planned-parenthood-1520768\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">restore federal funding for Planned Parenthood through Title X\u2019s family planning program<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, reversing the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2019\/08\/19\/752438119\/planned-parenthood-out-of-title-x-over-trump-rule\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trump administration\u2019s rule<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> prohibiting Title X recipients from referring for or providing abortions. This rule change led Planned Parenthood to <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/ninth-circuit-upholds-trump-planned-parenthood-rule\/\">walk away from $60 million in federal funding<\/a>, refusing to separate its abortion business fiscally and physically from its other family planning services.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The nation\u2019s largest abortion corporation <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2020\/06\/15\/876893948\/planned-parenthood-backs-biden-seeing-a-life-or-death-election-ahead\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">supported Biden during the 2020 election<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and is a longtime donor and supporter of his running-mate, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/biased-facebook-fact-check-kamala-harris-target\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vice President-elect Kamala Harris<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The former California Attorney General initiated the investigation and eventual prosecution of pro-life undercover journalists David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt after they had exposed Planned Parenthood executives discussing the sale of body parts of aborted children. Harris\u2019 successor, current <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/becerra-prosecutor-pro-life-biden-department-health\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">California Attorney General Xavier Becerra<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, continued that investigation and prosecution of the pro-life journalists.
