{"id":235315,"date":"2020-11-29T13:43:49","date_gmt":"2020-11-29T19:43:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=235315"},"modified":"2020-11-28T18:09:53","modified_gmt":"2020-11-29T00:09:53","slug":"european-parliament-criticizes-poland-ban-eugenic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/european-parliament-criticizes-poland-ban-eugenic\/","title":{"rendered":"European Parliament criticizes Poland for passing ban on eugenic abortions"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>A little over two months after Poland passed a law <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/poland-court-protect-babies-congenital-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">banning eugenic abortions<\/a>, the European Parliament (EP) has issued a resolution condemning the pro-life country.<\/p>\n<p>The First News, a newspaper covering issues in Poland, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefirstnews.com\/article\/european-parliament-adopts-resolution-on-polands-anti-abortion-law-17921\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> that the EP &#8220;strongly condemned&#8221; the ruling from the 13-member Constitutional Court, which declared that aborting a preborn child because of a poor prenatal diagnosis is unconstitutional. However, after widespread protests, the government chose to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/poland-misses-window-pro-life-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">delay the ruling<\/a>.\u00a0In order for the ruling to go into effect, it had to be published by November 2 by the Government Legislation Centre. As a result, abortion is still legal in Poland in cases of a prenatal diagnosis. Poland, already one of the most pro-life countries in the world, also allows abortion in cases of rape, incest, and when the mother\u2019s life is at risk.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/poland-misses-window-pro-life-law\/\">Poland misses window to enact pro-life law as protestors push for eugenic abortion<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/poland-abortion-europe\/european-parliament-expresses-solidarity-with-poland-abortion-protests-idUSL8N2IC3RC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According to the motion<\/a>, the EP \u201cunderlines that the aforementioned ruling is yet another example of the political takeover of the judiciary and the systemic collapse of the rule of law in Poland.\u201d In response, Julia Przelebska, president of the country&#8217;s Constitutional Tribunal, called the EP resolution &#8220;an unprecedented attempt to interfere with internal systemic issues of the Republic of Poland not covered by European treaties.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Currently, <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/poland-abortions-children-disabilities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">nearly 100%<\/a> of babies with a prenatal diagnosis in Poland are aborted. As previously <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/polish-baby-survives-abortion-cries-hour-left-die\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">covered by Live Action News<\/a>, babies with disabilities who survive the abortion process have also reportedly been left to die.<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FWWW1lMrLAE\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Most abortions in Poland, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2020\/10\/22\/europe\/poland-abortion-fetal-defect-ruling-intl\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to CNN<\/a>, are committed due to a prenatal diagnosis. President Andrzej Duda said he believes these children deserve to live. \u201cI am a strong opponent of eugenic abortion and I believe that killing children with disabilities is frankly murder,\u201d Duda <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2020\/04\/15\/world\/poland-abortion-law-intl\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously said<\/a> after Poland\u2019s governing Law and Justice party tried to pass a bill banning eugenic abortions. \u201cIf the plan finds itself on my desk, I will in all certainty sign it.\u201d In September, Duda became the country&#8217;s first president to <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/president-poland-participates-march-life-first-time\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">participate in the March for Life and Family<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Should a ban on eugenic abortion take hold in Poland, the overwhelming majority of abortions in the country would stop. As thousands of medical professionals have stated, the purposeful killing of a preborn human being is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pro-life-replies-abortion-never-medically-necessary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">never medically necessary<\/a>.
