She is the third woman ever elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Louisiana and the first Republican woman. She is also the only woman currently serving in the House from that state, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/julia-letlow-wins-louisiana-special-election-replace-husband\/story?id=76587512\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ABC News<\/a>, and is now the 18th pro-life woman elected this term.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UPDATE, 11\/25\/20:<\/strong> The number of pro-life women elected to congress in the 2020 elections now stands at 17. According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/11\/14\/historic-surge-2020-election-pro-life-women\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Daily Caller<\/a>, Young Kim (CA) defeated her incumbent opponent to become the 17th pro-life woman to win her race in this election cycle.<\/p>\n<p>Nine out of the 17 women elected in 2020 have flipped seats that were previously held by pro-abortion Democrat incumbents, according to the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UPDATE, 11\/16\/20:<\/strong>\u00a0The Washington Post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/news\/politics\/the-health-202-there-will-be-a-record-number-of-antiabortion-women-in-the-house\/ar-BB1aYWcv?ocid=uxbndlbing\">reported<\/a> that the number of pro-life women elected to the House continues to grow. &#8220;Pending the outcome of a few more races, antiabortion women in the House will more than double their ranks, from holding just 13 seats now to perhaps as many as 30 seats next year,&#8221; wrote the Post. In addition, CNS News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnsnews.com\/article\/washington\/patrick-goodenough\/number-new-pro-life-republican-congresswomen-has-climbed-16\">reports<\/a> that the number currently stands at 16, up from the originally reported 13, with potentially more to be added:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>The number of new, pro-life Republican women elected to the House of Representatives has climbed further, and now stands at 16, with the possibility of three more joining the group.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-slot-rendered-dynamic=\"true\"><em>Of the three undecided races, one is being held up by legal wrangling, and in the other two the Republican candidates are leading by slim margins \u2013 in one case, by a razor-thin margin.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Along with 11 incumbent pro-life Republican women who won re-election last week, the victories thus far take to 27 the number of pro-life women in the House&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>As <a href=\"https:\/\/cnsnews.com\/article\/washington\/patrick-goodenough\/new-pro-life-republican-congresswomen-house-14-and-counting\">reported earlier<\/a>, a record number of 14 new Republican women, all with pro-life views, won House races in last Tuesday\u2019s election. A diverse group, the newcomers include Cuban-Americans, a member of the Cherokee Nation, and the first Iranian American elected to Congress.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>11\/5\/20:<\/strong> As the votes continued to be tallied on Wednesday following Election Day, at least 13 races were called in favor of new pro-life women Representatives in Congress. This major pro-life shift in the United States House of Representatives more than doubles the current amount of pro-life female Members in the House.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Susan B. Anthony List, a national pro-life organization, announced the victory Wednesday afternoon on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SBAList\/status\/1324034699258449926\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Twitter<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming will join the Senate next Congress as an additional pro-life female. Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa pulled off a tight victory to secure her seat, along with Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith of Mississippi. Sen. Kelly Loeffler of Georgia advanced to a runoff election that will take place January 5, 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Liberty Counsel <a href=\"https:\/\/lc.org\/newsroom\/details\/110520-prolife-women-double-in-the-house\">writes<\/a>, &#8220;Maria Salazar (FL), Yvette Herrell (NM), Michelle Fischbach (MN), Nancy Mace (SC), Stephanie Brice (OK), Ashley Hinson (IA), and Nicole Malliotakis (NY) flipped Democrat-held seats. Six other pro-life women will replace pro-life men in the House: Lauren Boebert (CO), Lisa McClain (MI), Kat Cammack (FL), Diana Harshbarger (TN), Mary Miller (IL), and Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA).\u00a0At least six pro-life women will also serve in the U.S. Senate in January. They are Sens. Joni Ernst (IA), Cindy Hyde-Smith (MS), Shelley Moore Capito (WV), Cynthia Lummis (WY), Marsha Blackburn (TN) and Deb Fischer (NE).&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/louisiana-passes-amendment-1-abortion\/\">Louisiana passes Amendment 1: No right to abortion in state constitution<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With these 13 additional pro-life women \u2014\u00a0seven of whom flipped Democrat-held seats in the House \u2014\u00a0there is hope to make waves with pro-life initiatives like the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/clerk.house.gov\/dp\/116\/lrc\/pd\/petitions\/DisPet0001.xml\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Born Alive Petition<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The discharge petition was launched by Republican Whip Steve Scalise in the 116th Congress to attempt to override Speaker Nancy Pelosi\u2019s refusal to bring Rep. Ann Wagner\u2019s <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the House floor for vote. If the petition garners at least 218 Member signatures, a vo<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">te will be <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/house-members-petition-born-alive-abortion-survivors\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">forced<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the bill, and if passed, would protect infants born alive during botched abortions.
