Co-sponsors of the declaration are the United States,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brazil, Egypt, Hungary, Indonesia, and Uganda. The Declaration currently has 32 signers and remains <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">open,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> should more countries choose to sign on. Some countries who have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hhs.gov\/about\/agencies\/oga\/global-health-diplomacy\/protecting-life-global-health-policy\/geneva-declaration.html\">already signed in agreement<\/a> include Belarus, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Haiti, Iraq, Kenya, Poland, Sudan, and Saudi Arabia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Declaration\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">intends to affirm and strengthen four major goals in international women\u2019s health, including: \u201cbetter health for women, the preservation of human life, strengthening of family as the foundational unit of society, and protecting every nation&#8217;s national sovereignty in global politics.\u201d As part of attaining these pillars, the Declaration holds that \u201cit is the sovereign right of every nation to make their own laws in regard to abortion, absent external pressure,\u201d <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hhs.gov\/about\/agencies\/oga\/global-health-diplomacy\/protecting-life-global-health-policy\/geneva-declaration.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">according<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the Department of Health and Human Services. This comes as a significant step given the many external pro-abortion pressures often put upon historically and predominantly pro-life nations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Declaration also <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hhs.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/geneva-consensus-declaration-poster.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reaffirms<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cthe inherent \u2018dignity and worth of the human person,\u2019 that \u2018every human being has the inherent right to life,\u2019 and the commitment \u2018to enable women to go safely through pregnancy and childbirth and provide couples with the best chance of having a healthy infant.\u2019\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally, the Declaration emphasizes that \u201cin no case should abortion be promoted as a method of family planning\u201d and that \u201cthe child\u2026 needs special safeguards and care\u2026 before as well as after birth.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/rRPuJVOzJz8?start=1388\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At the Declaration&#8217;s virtual signing ceremony, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo stated, &#8220;At its very core, the Declaration protects women&#8217;s health, defends the unborn, and reiterates the vital importance of the family as the foundation of society. The Declaration restates that there is no international right to an abortion.
