{"id":232985,"date":"2020-10-15T12:38:04","date_gmt":"2020-10-15T17:38:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=232985"},"modified":"2024-09-20T12:18:57","modified_gmt":"2024-09-20T17:18:57","slug":"biased-facebook-fact-check-kamala-harris-target","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/biased-facebook-fact-check-kamala-harris-target\/","title":{"rendered":"Facebook &#8216;fact check&#8217; falsely claims Kamala Harris did not target pro-lifers"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On October 13, 2020, Facebook\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politifact.com\/facebook-fact-checks\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">official<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cfact-checkers\u201d at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politifact.com\/factchecks\/2020\/oct\/13\/facebook-posts\/social-media-posts-push-false-claims-about-kamala-\/?fbclid=IwAR3jJUDkCnfyNOPJgSMTj2ACGAoP-hK-O3PChC0ID90GkCgRC4IF7MMIL5c#sources\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PolitiFact<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> rated several claims about Senator Kamala Harris and Planned Parenthood as \u201cFalse.\u201d The fact-check cited a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifenews.com\/2020\/08\/14\/kamala-harris-tried-to-put-pro-lifers-in-jail-who-exposed-planned-parenthood-selling-baby-parts\/?fbclid=IwAR2JWdVy9V6XZ1-Kvq5cAPB22oD0icm62n_f82pJslD25uOu73ORmfKW21g\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LifeNews article<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with the headline \u201cKamala Harris Tried to Put Pro-Lifers in Jail Who Exposed Planned Parenthood Selling Baby Body Parts.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Like previous Facebook fact-checks of pro-life groups, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/facebook-fact-check-misrepresented-live-actions-position\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">including Live Action<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, this fact-check is highly misleading and shows strong bias in favor of the abortion industry.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em><strong>WARNING: Graphic image below.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here is what you need to know:\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The Center for Medical Progress revealed shocking footage of Planned Parenthood execs discussing body parts<\/b><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2015 the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) released undercover footage of Planned Parenthood executives appearing to discuss the sale of body parts from aborted children.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PolitiFact claims \u201cPlanned Parenthood was never found to have \u2018sold baby parts\u2019\u201d and further claims the term \u201cbaby parts\u201d is \u201cwrong and greatly misleading.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=egGUEvY7CEg\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast Director of Research Melissa Farrell told CMP<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that researchers sought \u201cbrain, kidney, thymus, liver spleen, femur\u201d obtained from the bodies of preborn children killed in her facility. This is one of many references to body parts of aborted babies in the hours of CMP footage.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_232986\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img recordings<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2016, as California\u2019s attorney general, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/local\/lanow\/la-me-attorney-general-seizes-planned-parenthood-videos-20160405-story.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kamala Harris<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> ordered state agents to search CMP founder David Daleiden\u2019s apartment and to seize evidence in connection with CMP\u2019s undercover investigation, including laptops and hard drives containing undercover footage.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PolitiFact uses quotes around the term \u201cjournalists\u201d when referring to Daleiden and Merritt, yet Daleiden called the search and seizure a violation of his <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.reuters.com\/alison-frankel\/2016\/01\/27\/first-amendment-wont-shield-defendants-in-planned-parenthood-scandal\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First Amendment rights<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as an undercover journalist.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rather than prosecuting Planned Parenthood or its executives for potentially violating federal law by selling human body parts, then-California Attorney General Kamala Harris targeted the CMP investigators who caught the Planned Parenthood executives on video.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PolitiFact verifies Harris\u2019 involvement as California attorney general, and even appears to verify LifeNews\u2019 claim that Harris had a political conflict of interest in this case, stating:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Planned Parenthood\u2019s political arm recently <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthoodaction.org\/elections\/kamala-harris\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">spotlighted Harris \u2018as a defender of reproductive rights and health care<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u2019 She has received tens of thousands of dollars in campaign finance contributions from Planned Parenthood affiliated groups, including $15,000 during her 2014 campaign for re-election as attorney general, according to the California Secretary of State\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/powersearch.sos.ca.gov\/advanced.php\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">website<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2017, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courthousenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Daleiden.pdf\">15 criminal counts<\/a> were brought against Daleiden and his colleague Sandra Merritt in California. The charges included violations of California Penal Code 632, which prohibits recording without consent. CMP recorded Planned Parenthood executives in public locations, including restaurants and trade conferences where the legal expectation of privacy is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cjr.org\/united_states_project\/can_i_do_that_a_legal_primer_for_journalists.php\">subject of debate<\/a>. The undercover tactics used by CMP are also a <a href=\"https:\/\/archives.cjr.org\/campaign_desk\/the_ethics_of_undercover_journalism.php?page=all\">matter of debate<\/a> among journalists. For example, animal rights activists exposed undercover recordings of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2017\/03\/california-pro-life-journalists-felony-counts-planned-parenthood-videos\/\">animal cruelty at California chicken and duck farms<\/a>. In these cases, California authorities investigated the farms, not the animal rights activists.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many of the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/judge-dismisses-some-criminal-charges-daleiden\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">charges<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0against Daleiden and Merritt were later dropped.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Planned Parenthood also sued CMP, and in 2019, a San Francisco jury <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/11\/15\/us\/planned-parenthood-lawsuit-secret-videos.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">awarded<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Planned Parenthood $2 million in damages. Daleiden called the verdict a \u201cdangerous precedent for citizen journalism and First Amendment civil rights across the country.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PolitiFact attempts to distance Senator Harris from the prosecution and seems to suggest that because Harris had moved onto the U.S. Senate by 2017 (when criminal charges were actually brought) that she is not responsible for the prosecution.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yet PolitiFact also admits, \u201cHarris was attorney general in 2015 when <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2016\/04\/anti-abortion-groups-kamala-harris-resign-david-daleiden-221681\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">she announced she would investigate Daleiden<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and when her agency seized his laptop and hard drives from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/post-nation\/wp\/2016\/04\/05\/california-authorities-raid-home-of-anti-planned-parenthood-videographer\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">his Orange County apartment<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 2016.\u201d Harris\u2019s decision to target Daleiden for violating the criminal eavesdropping statute has been described as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/david-daleiden-kamala-harris-contempt-first-amendment\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">unprecedented<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The CMP prosecution raises First Amendment and Freedom of Press concerns<\/b><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After charges were brought against CMP, Harris\u2019s office <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/media-silent-on-planned-parenthoods-ties-to-lawmakers-behind-pro-life-activist-charges\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">corresponded<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0by email with Planned Parenthood for advice in drafting additional California legislation to punish undercover journalists. In March of 2017, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Beth Parker, chief legal counsel for Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California, emailed Harris\u2019s office with proposed language for AB 1671\u2014a bill to criminalize undercover recordings of \u201chealth care providers.\u201d Many <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/california-whistleblower-law-governor-brown-signs-bill-criminalizing-whistleblowing\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">argued<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the bill was intended to intimidate whistleblowers like CMP, and prevent further exposure of Planned Parenthood.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some raised concerns that this working relationship between the California attorney general\u2019s office and Planned Parenthood was a form of collusion and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2016\/sep\/27\/kamala-harris-planned-parenthood-teamed-up-on-legi\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">corroboration<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Daleiden\u2019s attorney, former Los Angeles District Attorney Steve Cooley, said, \u201cThis is going after an individual, a single person who was operating as a citizen journalist. And all the activity and the timing of it all strongly suggests a real partnership between the attorney general and Planned Parenthood.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">California lawmakers from both major political parties, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.courthousenews.com\/abortion-clinic-sting-videos-sprout-free-speech-battle\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">American Civil Liberties Union<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of California, and the California Newspaper Publishers Association opposed AB 1671 due to concerns that it violates the First Amendment rights of journalists. The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/opinion\/editorials\/la-ed-planned-parenthood-video-bill-20160831-snap-story.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Los Angeles Times<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">editorial board said AB 1671 would result in \u201cunanticipated and unwelcome consequences,\u201d and called it \u201cbad for whistleblowers.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Daleiden has now filed a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2020\/may\/14\/pro-life-investigator-daleiden-sues-kamala-harris-\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">lawsuit<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> naming Harris and her successor, Xavier Becerra, for abusing their prosecutorial discretion and violating his First Amendment rights, and for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2020\/05\/13\/david-daleiden-sues-planned-parenthood-kamala-harris-for-using-video-recording-laws-as-political-weapon\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">selectively<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> enforcing California\u2019s eavesdropping statute against pro-life journalists.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PolitiFact does not discuss the First Amendment implications of the CMP prosecution, yet appears to dismiss the notion that Harris selectively targeted \u201cpro-life journalists.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PolitiFact&#8217;s consistent use of quotes around the term \u201cjournalist\u201d when referring to Daleiden and Merritt implies they are not journalists. While definitions for the term may vary, some definitions are found in state and federal law. For example, 30 states and the District of Columbia have enacted Shield Laws to protect journalists from revealing confidential sources in court. While some insist that First Amendment and other legal protections for journalists only extend to writers employed by traditional print media, states like <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usnews.com\/news\/best-states\/nevada\/articles\/2019-12-06\/nevada-court-expands-reporter-shield-law-to-include-bloggers\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nevada<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have extended their Shield Law protections to online bloggers. Daleiden has been called, and refers to himself as, a \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/pro-life-activists-fined-for-exposing-planned-parenthood-in-undercover-videos-its-really-an-attack-on-the-first-amendment-civil-rights\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">citizen journalist<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>PolitiFact uses Planned Parenthood talking points to label allegations against Planned Parenthood as \u201cunfounded<\/b><b>\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PolitiFact also claims, \u201cIt\u2019s correct that Harris as California\u2019s attorney general never brought charges against Planned Parenthood\u201d for selling body parts of aborted children. \u201cBut it\u2019s also correct to say the accusations against the organization were unfounded.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To support the claim that the accusations are \u201cunfounded,\u201d PolitiFact relies on the abortion industry talking point that Planned Parenthood merely receives \u201cfetal tissue donations for medical research\u201d which is allowed under federal law, that women \u201cmust provide written consent,\u201d and that Planned Parenthood is only paid for \u201ctransportation, processing and storage.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, CMP\u2019s investigative videos revealed hours of conversations between CMP investigators and Planned Parenthood staff, executives, and affiliates which suggest more than a mere donation program. As Fox News <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/david-daleiden-kamala-harris-contempt-first-amendment\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">previously reported<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Planned Parenthood has defended itself by claiming that its charges related to transportation and time spent by staff. The invoices don&#8217;t mention either of those, however, nor do they contain the word \u2018reimbursement.\u2019 Instead, they assign a fee per body part. Specifically, the previously released contract between those organizations showed that the exchanges were based on \u2018POC determined in the clinic to be usable.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In one CMP <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=9K82Oyd-lv8&amp;amp;index=1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">video<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Dr. Mary Gatter appears to haggle with CMP investigators, saying, \u201cWhy don\u2019t you start by telling me what you\u2019re used to paying?\u201d Gatter goes on, \u201cWell, you know in negotiations the person who throws out the figure first is at a loss, right?\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=oar7sw0UtOg&amp;list=PL_S490a2o7lTPt1CNEpI37RJO7JOcS2Rs&amp;index=15\">another video<\/a>, CMP investigators describe themselves to Dr. Carolyn Westhoff as fetal tissue procurement agents. Westhoff, a senior medical advisor for Planned Parenthood, talks about working with \u201cpeople who want particular tissues\u2026 they want cardiac, or they want eyes, or they want neural\u2026 spinal cords\u2026 oh gonads. Planned Parenthood even announced publicly that it would no longer accept any form of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/health\/health-news\/planned-parenthood-will-pay-its-own-fetal-tissue-costs-n443611\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reimbursement<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in connection with its fetal tissue program. Just this year, unsealed documents from Daleiden\u2019s lawsuit against Planned Parenthood disclosed \u201cinvoices\u201d showing the abortion corporation charged contractor StemExpress $25,000 for \u201cfetal tissue and maternal blood samples.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yet, citing a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2016\/01\/28\/464594826\/in-wake-of-videos-planned-parenthood-investigations-find-no-fetal-tissue-sales\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2016 NPR article<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, PolitiFact claims \u201ca dozen states\u201d investigated Planned Parenthood but reached \u201cno criminal findings.\u201d But this claim misrepresents the nature of criminal investigations, of undercover journalism, and of the current facts surrounding the allegations against Planned Parenthood.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First, CMP chose to use undercover investigative tactics to expose the abortion industry\u2019s wrongdoing in part because of what they perceived as inaction on the part of law enforcement and lawmakers, especially those elected lawmakers who receive political contributions from the abortion industry.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Second, criminal investigations can take years, may be largely conducted confidentially, and may be thwarted by the ongoing criminal behavior of the target, such as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.deseret.com\/2011\/10\/24\/20225407\/judge-postpones-kansas-planned-parenthood-case\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">destruction of evidence<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. In 2011, for example, it was reported that a trial court judge postponed a criminal case against Planned Parenthood after it was discovered that the state health department had shredded material evidence in the case.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Third, other parties involved in the CMP investigation have been charged. The Orange County District Attorney brought <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/opinion\/civil-rights\/364998-with-firms-prosecution-planned-parenthoods-house-of-cards-is-starting-to\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">charges<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> against two of the biomedical companies CMP identified as doing business with Planned Parenthood, for illegally profiting from the sale of body parts of aborted children. The sister companies, DaVinci Biosciences and DV Biologics, pleaded guilty and eventually settled with prosecutors, paying $7.8 million in fines and damages. The companies may have also provided kickbacks to Planned Parenthood in exchange for harvesting body parts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally, a federal investigation of Planned Parenthood may be ongoing. In 2017, it was <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-usa-plannedparenthood\/u-s-department-of-justice-investigating-fetal-tissue-transfers-idUSKBN1E20HA\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reported<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> t<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hat the federal Department of Justice would be investigating Planned Parenthood in light of the CMP videos, after the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.grassley.senate.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/judiciary\/upload\/22920%20-%20FTR.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Senate Judiciary Committee<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> found serious discrepancies in Planned Parenthood\u2019s fetal tissue transfer policy. The committee referred the matter to the DOJ. As recently as January of this year, over <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/norman.house.gov\/news\/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=592\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">60 members of Congress<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> requested an update on this DOJ investigation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The governors of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/arkansasag.gov\/media-center\/news-releases\/termination-of-planned-parenthood-from-medicaid-program-to-proceed\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Arkansas<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2019\/01\/17\/federal-appeals-court-\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Texas<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have even terminated Planned Parenthood from their state Medicaid programs because of the CMP revelations about the sale of body parts of aborted babies.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PolitiFact\u2019s citation of a 2016 NPR article to prove that Planned Parenthood has been exonerated of all criminal wrongdoing is not only outdated, but highly misleading.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Facebook\u2019s history of bias<\/b><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Facebook and other social media companies have demonstrated a pattern of bias against pro-life groups, and the pro-life view that abortion is the killing of an innocent preborn human, and not \u201chealth care.\u201d In 2019, Facebook\u2019s fact-checkers <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/tech\/live-action-slams-facebooks-fact-checking-system-after-probe-finds-conclusions-were-fair\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">previously<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> labeled Live Action\u2019s claim that \u201cabortion is never medically necessary\u201d as \u201cfalse and inaccurate.\u201d Senator Josh Hawley later confirmed that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckberg <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/facebook-zuckerberg-fact-check\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">admitted<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that the actions taken against Live Action showed <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/news\/hawley-says-facebooks-zuckerberg-admitted-bias-in-censoring-pro-life-content\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">bias<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this latest fact-check, PolitiFact uses loaded partisan language to describe Judge Amy Coney Barrett as a \u201cconservative ideologue who could vote to eliminate abortion rights.\u201d It also uses slanted abortion industry talking points, saying \u201cPlanned Parenthood provides reproductive health care services, including abortions.\u201d This statement begs the question about how Facebook and PolitiFact must define the term \u201creproductive health care services,\u201d since they include abortions in their list. Pro-life groups, including Live Action, say abortion is not \u201chealth care,\u201d but is rather the killing of an innocent preborn human.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2017, it was <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2017\/02\/01\/facebooks-sheryl-sandberg-donated-1-million-to-planned-parenthood.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reported<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that Facebook COO and longtime board member Cheryl Sandberg personally donated $1 million to Planned Parenthood, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/facebook-coo-sheryl-sandberg-million-planned-parenthood\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">did so again<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 2019. According to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.opensecrets.org\/orgs\/facebook-inc\/summary?toprecipcycle=2020&amp;contribcycle=2020&amp;lobcycle=2020&amp;outspendcycle=2020&amp;id=D000033563&amp;topnumcycle=A\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Center for Responsive Politics<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Kamala Harris is also a recipient of political contributions from Facebook employees and affiliates.
