Wade<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is overturned by the Supreme Court, especially after President Trump\u2019s nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Court.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Harris said, \u201cI will always fight for a woman\u2019s right to make a decision about her own body. It should be her decision.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pence declared, \u201cI\u2019m pro-life. I don\u2019t apologize for it,\u201d and praised President Trump\u2019s nomination of Judge Barrett.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pence also warned against religious litmus tests for federal judges who are affiliated with religious groups that oppose abortion. \u201cWe hope she gets a fair hearing,\u201d Pence said of Barrett. \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And we particularly hope that we don&#8217;t see the kind of attacks on her Christian faith that we saw before.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FCSPAN%2Fvideos%2F387119748969005%2F&amp;show_text=1&amp;width=560\" width=\"560\" height=\"436\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pence alluded to Barrett\u2019s 2017 confirmation <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/amy-coney-barrett-dems-2017-catholic-faith\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hearing<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> before the Senate Judiciary Committee when she was nominated to the US Court of Appeals, specifically when Harris\u2019 colleague from California, Dianne Feinstein, told Barrett the dogma of the Catholic faith, \u201clives loudly within you, and that\u2019s a concern.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the time, many accused Feinstein of imposing a religious litmus test on a Catholic judge, due to the Catholic Church\u2019s opposition to abortion. Feinstein <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/video\/?c4723518\/user-clip-dianne-feinstein-the-dogma-lives-loudly-youand\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">told Barrett<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> she had an \u201cuncomfortable feeling\u201d that Barrett would let Catholic dogma control her judicial philosophy, and said she assumed Barrett would be a \u201cno vote on <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Roe.<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d Barrett responded that she would have \u201cno opportunity\u201d to overturn <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Roe<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as a judge on the US Circuit Court and she would \u201cfaithfully apply all Supreme Court precedent.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Harris, who serves alongside Feinstein on the judiciary committee, joined Feinstein in voting against Barrett\u2019s 2017 nomination. The two California senators also opposed the 2019 nomination of Judge Brian Buescher, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.judiciary.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/Buescher%20Responses%20to%20QFRs.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">raising concerns<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> over his affiliation with the Knights of Columbus\u2014a Catholic fraternal organization with over two million members.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/poll-growing-support-confirming-barrett-supreme-court\/\">New poll shows growing support for confirming Amy Coney Barrett for Supreme Court<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pence raised this incident as well during Wednesday\u2019s debate, saying, \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Senator, I know one of our judicial nominees, you actually attacked because they were a member of the Catholic Knights of Columbus, just because the Knights of Columbus holds pro-life views.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Harris challenged Pence\u2019s assertion that she would impose religious tests. \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Joe Biden and I are both people of faith,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd it\u2019s insulting to suggest that we would knock anyone for their faith, and in fact, Joe if elected will be only the second practicing Catholic, as President of the United States.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pence stopped short of guaranteeing Judge Barrett would overturn <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Roe v. Wade<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> if appointed to the Supreme Court, saying he would \u201cnever presume\u201d how Barrett might rule.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pence also criticized Harris and Biden&#8217;s support for taxpayer-funded abortion, \u201call the way up to the moment of birth, late-term abortion,\u201d claiming she and Biden would, \u201cincrease funding to Planned Parenthood of America.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During Buescher\u2019s confirmation hearing, Harris submitted questions for the record probing him about whether he agreed with the Knights of Columbus\u2019s position on defunding abortion providers: \u201cReproductive health providers who receive Title X funds provide a critical service to women.
