A woman who was raped by her ex-boyfriend and became pregnant now deeply regrets her abortion. She shared her story of pregnancy through rape and her experience taking the abortion pill on AbortionChangesYou.com<\/a>. She wrote that inside, her regret “kills” her every day:<\/p>\n

There are no words that can explain this depressing, and anxiety feeling I feel. Deep inside it kills me everyday [sic] knowing what I did was very stupid. I don’t think I could ever forgive myself. Not only does it haunt me but it’s very traumatizing knowing I did it. Having this happen not only did it affect my feelings, but it affected my life in so many ways\u2026. I do regret what I did. If I could only go back to the day I would have never done it. Only reason why I did it was because I didn’t want to be a disappointment.<\/em><\/p>\n

Not having support from my own family was very hard because it made me feel so alone and depressed.<\/em><\/p>\n

It is tragic that this woman had no support from her family. Originally, she had considered adoption instead of abortion, but her family reacted badly to the idea:<\/p>\n

I know you might be thinking well why did I still abort why not adoption? Well because when I told one of my family members that I chose adoption I got judged and criticized and got told I was a horrible person for even thinking that. I don’t understand how that can be cruel but I know it is a lot better than abortion.<\/em><\/p>\n

It is a tragic mindset that considers killing a child more compassionate than letting the child live and placing him or her in a loving home.<\/p>\n

The woman who shared her story is far from the only woman who regretted aborting a child conceived in rape. A book by David Reardon, Amy Sobie, and Julie Makimaa contained the stories of many women who conceived through rape or incest.<\/p>\n

They interviewed over 100 women<\/a> and found that 88% of those who aborted after rape regretted their abortions and felt they made the wrong choice. Only one woman they interviewed felt nothing but positive feelings about her abortion. The remaining women conceded that their abortions were traumatic but felt they may have been the right (or only) choice.<\/p>\n

Ninety-three percent of the rape victims who aborted said they would not recommend abortion to someone pregnant after rape. Only seven percent felt that abortion was a good solution in cases of rape. In addition, 43% said that they felt pressured to choose abortion by their family and\/or by abortion workers.<\/p>\n

By contrast, of the women who carried to term, not one regretted having her baby or wished she had aborted instead. Over 80% explicitly expressed happiness about their child and their situation, and 94% said abortion was a bad solution to a rape-conceived pregnancy.<\/p>\n
