On Cooper\u2019s hour-long <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/johnlcooperstuff\/posts\/3318755771683665\">September 21st episode<\/a> of his video podcast, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/cooperstuffpodcast.com\">Cooper Stuff<\/a>,\u201d he noted, \u201cYou can\u2019t start from a wrong foundation and end up somewhere you want to be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cooper pointed out how some pastors and Christian leaders seem to be veering away from God&#8217;s Word when it comes to abortion. \u201cI do think that we should get back to realizing how much of an evil it is that we don\u2019t defend the innocent,\u201d Cooper stated emphatically. \u201cIt\u2019s so bizarre to have the very same people talking about justice, talking about restorative justice, talking about racial justice, economic justice, environmental justice, but those same people won\u2019t fight for the justice of the unborn&#8230;.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Cooper played a clip from a show featuring Veggie Tales co-creator <a href=\"https:\/\/philvischer.com\">Phil Vischer<\/a> in which Vischer\u2019s female guest discussed her belief that God cares equally about the needs of a pregnant woman and her preborn child. While Cooper noted that, certainly, God cares about both, there is one innocent party in the circumstance of abortion who stands to lose <i>much more<\/i> than the woman:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fjohnlcooperstuff%2Fvideos%2F3261419387229038%2F&amp;show_text=1&amp;width=560\" width=\"560\" height=\"512\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/lucy-a-heartbreaking-tribute-to-a-daughter-lost-to-abortion\/\">\u201cLucy\u201d \u2013 a heartbreaking tribute to a daughter lost to abortion<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo does God care about the needs of the baby? Yes. Does God care about the needs of the mom? Yes,\u201d said Cooper. \u201cDoes God view that as an equal justice when the mom is getting ready \u2014 and I\u2019m sorry if I\u2019m offending anybody if I say it too harshly \u2014 but when the mom is getting ready to commit murder against the innocent baby who cannot defend itself\u2026? In that moment, do you think that God is just as concerned about the needs of the mother or is God more concerned about the innocent unborn child that has never done anything wrong?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Cooper also debunked the idea that pro-lifers don\u2019t care about the needs of mothers as well as babies.\u00a0\u201cPro-life organizations give lots of help to moms\u2026 The only people that say that pro-life people don\u2019t care about the needs of the mother are liberal people,\u201d says Cooper, \u201cand they believe that because they believe that if a woman does not have bodily autonomy \u2014 that she doesn\u2019t have the right to have an abortion \u2014 then they believe you are literally ripping [their] rights away\u2026 treating [them] like less than an individual\u2026. If taxes don\u2019t pay for those abortions, then [they believe] it actually is economic injustice&#8230;.&#8221;<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>The seriousness of sexual immorality and abortion<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cooper said that sometimes the Church &#8220;ranks&#8221; sins, and that in doing so, diminishes the seriousness of all sin. The solution to this, he said, is not to diminish certain sins (like abortion), but to take all sin seriously \u201cso every one realizes how undeserving of His favor\u2026 we really are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, he said, it is increasingly common for some Christians to downplay the seriousness of sexual sin. To demonstrate, he played a clip of a broadcast involving Phil Vischer and three different guests, in which one guest claimed there are two kinds of Christians: those concerned with \u201ccosmic Christianity\u201d (having concern for everything in the universe) and those concerned with \u201ccrotch Christianity\u201d (having concerns about sexual immorality). This guest painted Christians who are concerned with abortion and other life issues as &#8216;crotch Christians&#8217; who are\u00a0short-sighted.<\/p>\n<p>Cooper expressed disbelief that some Christians like Vischer&#8217;s guest would diminish the seriousness of the deaths of \u201c800,000 babies a year\u201d and those who grieve this human injustice. \u201c800,000 babies a year\u2026 it\u2019s \u2018Crotch Christianity,\u2019 guys,\u201d Cooper mocked. \u201cYou should care about <i>everything in the world<\/i>, guys\u2026 why are you so worried\u2026 when there are people with no health insurance\u2026? That\u2019s what they\u2019re saying.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CFZDhM5Gwhk\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Cooper then noted how in the Old Testament, penalties for sexual sins and murder were much more serious than penalties for other sins. \u201cShould we find out how God feels about the penalty for murder versus the penalty for not helping the poor? One of those things has a capital offense. One of those things you lose your life for\u2026 What about sexual immorality? Does that really matter to God? Yep, that\u2019s a capital offense too. What about sacrificing your children to a pagan god? (Is that anything like killing the unborn\u2026?) That\u2019s a capital offense. Guess what you <i>don\u2019t<\/i> get [the death penalty] for [in the Old Testament]? You don\u2019t get that for not helping the poor\u2026 [or] because you didn\u2019t give health insurance to somebody.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think a nation that takes the most innocent, most vulnerable people in the whole world \u2014 which is the unborn \u2014 and just says, \u2018You can do whatever you want to in the name of bodily autonomy. We\u2019re gonna show women how much we love \u2018em by allowing them to commit genocide against the unborn\u2019 \u2014 now, <i>that<\/i> might get you destruction,\u201d Cooper said, speaking of his belief that God will judge a nation harshly for the killing of preborn human beings.<\/p>\n<p>Cooper pointed out that Christians who make light of sexual immorality and mock other Christians who are concerned with the injustice of abortion need to remember that the Old and New Testaments both condemn sexual immorality. \u201cYou\u2019re going to find a holy God in the Old Covenant that was quite concerned with\u2026 sexual things,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Supreme Court and <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cooper also addressed the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, stating that based on\u00a0abortion supporters&#8217; reactions to Ginsburg\u2019s death, Supreme Court justices do matter.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the things that obviously needs to be mentioned is that this week, we have all of the new Christian liberal propaganda\u2026 happening in the same week that a Supreme Court justice\u2026 just died\u2026. So It\u2019s kind of an interesting thing to see all of this liberal Christian propaganda coming out saying, \u2018Justices can\u2019t really do anything anyway, guys, it\u2019s kind of a waste of time\u2026\u2019 [Abortion supporters] are losing their minds over this\u2026 obviously the Left thinks it\u2019s a real big deal,\u201d he said, because they are claiming that women\u2019s rights could be \u201cstripped away forever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cooper added, \u201cIf there\u2019s nothing to see here, then why are they freaking out?\u2026 If Supreme Court justices don\u2019t matter and can\u2019t do anything anyway, then that\u2019s news to everybody.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cooper also addressed video remarks made by Phil Vischer \u2014 and it is unclear from the clip whether Vischer is quoting from someone else or if the thoughts are his own \u2014\u00a0who stated, \u201cEverything we\u2019ve been fighting for in terms of presidents and justices [in overturning <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>] may ultimately have the ability to only do 10% of the impact that we want.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cbigger issue\u201d in a statement like this downplaying the importance of overturning <i>Roe<\/i>, said Cooper, is that the \u201c10%\u201d of children saved from abortion equates to a lot of human beings. \u201cThat\u2019s like 80,000 lives a year,\u201d Cooper emphasized, noting that people who fight on behalf of preborn children would likely see the saving of tens of thousands of human lives each year as something to be celebrated.\u00a0\u201cAs if 80,000 babies a year isn\u2019t a lot.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/yIiTGFdT4IM\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Christian&#8221; efforts to minimize and excuse abortion<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cooper pointed out that we are in the midst of a culture that is \u201cactively trying to broaden\u201d abortion and wants \u201cthe government to pay for it,\u201d adding that \u201cwithin that idea there is a movement to normalize\u201d abortion as well. \u201cWe are sitting in a culture that is\u2026 willing to really go way over the line to do this,\u201d he said, noting that even as this occurs, some Christians are blindly giving aid to it.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that despite claims to the contrary, some women do not believe the abortion decision is \u201cdifficult.\u201d He demonstrated his point by juxtaposing various video clips of women normalizing and celebrating their abortions with a video clip in which Phil Vischer repeats the claim that \u201cno woman wants to have an abortion.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Cooper is disheartened by the efforts of those whom he calls \u201cliberal Christians\u201d to ignore and even excuse abortion. \u201cIf abortion is murder,\u201d he says, \u201cthen this is a legal issue\u2026 Then comes the push to say, well, this is just about people who make it too much about sexuality\u2026 Then comes the push that says, &#8216;Guys, conservative justices don\u2019t even matter anyway&#8217;\u2026 Then comes the &#8216;Guys, you don\u2019t understand\u2026 [abortion] isn\u2019t what people want\u2019\u2026 but it\u2019s very clear there is a normalization [of abortion] happening in our culture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cooper then addressed recent comments made by well-known pastor <a href=\"https:\/\/timothykeller.com\">Tim Keller<\/a>, who appeared to downplay the need for Christians to vote pro-life. \u201cIt\u2019s not like the Left wants to end [abortion] too and we just have different idea of how to do it,\u201d Cooper noted. \u201cThat argument works with the poor, that argument works with the economy\u2026 [but] the Left has no plan on how to end abortion. That\u2019s not what they want. They want to expand abortion\u2026 [and] believe that [any restriction on abortion] is an abuse against women.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Protecting the innocent is what the government should be doing, noted Cooper. \u201cThe new modern liberal Christian view\u2026 [says]\u2026 let\u2019s [not] go to the government\u2026 let\u2019s work on [abortion] as a heart issue, even though the Bible says that [protecting human life] is the role of the government \u2014 but then they flip the script when it comes to social justice issues that the Bible says is charity that the <em>Church<\/em> is supposed to do\u2026.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know why [Christians] would try to minimize [abortion] in any way, and I don\u2019t know why our Bible theologians would go to such great lengths\u201d to emphasize social justice while \u201cminimiz[ing] the abortion issue,\u201d stated Cooper.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>It is Cooper&#8217;s belief that Christians need to get back to \u201cunderstanding what we are supposed to be doing and what the role of earthly government actually is.&#8221; He said, &#8220;It seems like Bible 101\u2026 Maybe you need to go back and read it again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/liveactionnewsonline\/\">\u201cLike\u201d Live Action News on Facebook<\/a>\u00a0for more pro-life news and commentary!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>John Cooper, lead singer for the popular Christian hard rock band, Skillet, recently discussed his frustration with Christian leaders who seem to be downplaying the issue of killing innocent children through abortion in comparison to other societal issues.
