of the pandemic"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>(<a href=\"https:\/\/righttolife.org.uk\/news\/uks-largest-abortion-provider-hails-highest-abortion-numbers-in-history-as-one-of-the-few-healthcare-success-stories-of-this-pandemic\/\">Right to Life UK<\/a>)\u00a0The UK\u2019s largest abortion provider, the British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS), has declared the significant rise in the number of abortions performed so far in 2020 as <em>\u201cone of the few healthcare success stories of this pandemic\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Statistics released by The Department of Health and Social Care last week revealed that 109,836 abortions were performed for English and Welsh residents in the six months between 1 January and 30 June 2020.<\/p>\n<p>This is an increase of 4,296 from the same time period in 2019, when 105,540 terminations were performed.<\/p>\n<p>Over the full calendar year, abortion numbers for 2019 were the <a href=\"https:\/\/righttolife.org.uk\/news\/press-release-abortion-numbers-highest-ever-for-english-and-welsh-residents-latest-statistics-show\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">highest ever recorded<\/a> in England and Wales at 200,608.<\/p>\n<p>In their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bpas.org\/about-our-charity\/press-office\/press-releases\/comment-on-dhsc-abortion-statistics-telemedical-abortion-service-results-in-significant-drop-in-gestation-at-which-women-can-access-care-protecting-their-health-during-the-pandemic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">press release<\/a> on the all-time high numbers, BPAS said: <em>\u201cThese figures illustrate that access to abortion care has been one of the few healthcare success stories of this pandemic.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/uk-abortions-2020-beat-high-diy\/\">UK abortions in 2020 set to beat all-time 2019 high, and some think at-home abortions are to blame<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>BPAS call for \u2018DIY\u2019 home abortions to be permanent<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The significant rise in abortions coincides with the Government\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/righttolife.org.uk\/news\/dangerous-diy-abortions-introduced-in-the-uk-without-any-public-consultation-or-parliamentary-scrutiny\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">temporary measure<\/a> allowing \u2018DIY\u2019 home abortions in the UK, earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>BPAS has now called for them to be made available on a permanent basis claiming they have become <em>\u201cthe standard of high quality, woman-centred care in countries around the world\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>However, contrary to the claims of BPAS, significant problems and safety abuses have arisen around the introduction of \u2018DIY\u2019 home abortions in the UK.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cpdY97GOK2I\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/christianconcern.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/CC-Resource-Misc-Judicial-Review-Abortion-200729-NHS-email-2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">leaked<\/a> \u201curgent email\u201d sent by a regional chief midwife at NHS England and NHS Improvement on the \u201cescalating risks\u201d of \u2018DIY\u2019 home abortions, two women have <a href=\"https:\/\/righttolife.org.uk\/news\/two-women-have-died-after-using-uk-diy-abortion-service\/\">died<\/a> after taking \u2018DIY\u2019 home abortion pills.<\/p>\n<p>The email leak also revealed police have <a href=\"https:\/\/righttolife.org.uk\/news\/murder-investigation-launched-into-death-of-baby-whose-mother-took-diy-home-abortion-pills\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">opened a murder investigation<\/a> into the death of a baby who they believe was born alive despite her mother taking \u2018DIY\u2019 home abortion pills.<\/p>\n<p>A nationwide undercover investigation <a href=\"https:\/\/christianconcern.com\/ccpressreleases\/undercover-investigation-exposes-diy-abortion-service-as-unsafe-and-crossing-legal-boundaries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">found<\/a> evidence of abortion providers putting women at significant risk by not carrying out basic checks before sending them \u2018DIY\u2019 home abortion pills.<\/p>\n<p>A number of women have also come forward to <a href=\"https:\/\/righttolife.org.uk\/news\/more-woman-speak-out-about-diy-home-abortion-serious-problems-with-telemedicine-abortion-service\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">share the serious problems<\/a> they\u2019ve experienced after taking \u2018DIY\u2019 home abortion pills.<\/p>\n<p>One woman said she went through <em>\u201chell\u201d<\/em> and thought she was going to die after taking the dangerous pills.<\/p>\n<p>Another woman said the pain and physical process was <em>\u201chorrible\u201d<\/em> and <em>\u201ca lot worse than expected\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Despite these concerns, BPAS may get their wish as the UK Government <a href=\"https:\/\/righttolife.org.uk\/news\/government-minister-reveals-temporary-measure-allowing-diy-home-abortions-in-uk-will-be-reviewed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recently announced<\/a> it will launch a consultation on whether to end the temporary measure allowing \u2018DIY\u2019 home abortions or make it permanent.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lRDnVSMr5j0\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018National tragedy\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for Right To Life UK, Catherine Robinson said: \u201c<em>The rise in abortion numbers are not a \u2018success story\u2019 or cause for celebration<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThey are a national tragedy.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cEvery one of the 109,836 abortions which took place represents a failure of our society to protect the lives of babies in the womb and a failure to offer full support to women with unplanned pregnancies.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThis year we\u2019ve come together as a nation and made great sacrifices to protect the vulnerable from Covid-19. Sadly, at the very same time we\u00a0 protected one group of vulnerable people, we as a society have also ended thousands of young vulnerable lives through abortion.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThis significant rise in abortions coincides with the temporary measures allowing \u2018DIY\u2019 home abortions in the UK. Since the UK Government permitted \u2018DIY\u2019 home abortions, stories of illegal late-term abortions and safety abuses have come to light.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe, along with other pro-life campaigners, warned it was only a matter of time before a woman died as a result of a \u2018DIY\u2019 home abortion.
