The law banned <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abortionprocedures.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">abortion<\/a> after a preborn baby&#8217;s heartbeat can be detected, as early as six weeks gestation. In October of the same year, U.S. District Judge Steve Jones <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/georgia-heartbeat-law-blocked-federal-judge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">issued a temporary injunction<\/a> against the law, and permanently <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/state-appeal-georgia-block-heartbeat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blocked it from taking effect<\/a> in July. Governor Kemp immediately signaled that the state planned to appeal the ruling.<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-container\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Georgia is a state that values life and our fight to protect the innocent unborn is far from over. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/gapol?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#gapol<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/zD2Oo0Q8xt\">https:\/\/t.co\/zD2Oo0Q8xt<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Brian Kemp (@BrianKempGA) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BrianKempGA\/status\/1282765173124747266?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 13, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>The Associated Press (AP) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ajc.com\/news\/georgia-news\/georgia-appeals-ruling-that-blocked-restrictive-abortion-law\/IBVQQMX5PVCNLJYHATA6BRYDLA\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a>\u00a0that the state has begun the appeal process, predictably drawing ire from the ACLU, one of the groups which filed lawsuits against the law that eventually led to Jones&#8217; rulings. \u201cThe district court blocked Georgia\u2019s abortion ban because it violates over 50 years of Supreme Court precedent and fails to trust women to make their own personal decisions,&#8221; Sean Young, legal director for the ACLU of Georgia, said in a statement to the AP. \u201cThis case has always been about one thing: letting her decide. Abortion care remains legal throughout the State of Georgia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/women-miscarry-jailed-georgia-heartbeat-myths-debunked\/\">Debunking 6 myths surrounding Georgia\u2019s \u2018heartbeat bill\u2019<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Jones&#8217; ruling claimed that Georgia&#8217;s law violated the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/constitution\/amendmentxiv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">14th Amendment to the United States Constitution<\/a>, which declares that no state may \u201cdeprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yet ironically, this is what Jones is allowing to happen; his ruling allows human beings to be deprived of their lives solely because of their size and status.<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cpdY97GOK2I\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It is a biological fact that preborn children, from the moment of fertilization, are unique human beings, distinct from their mothers. At that moment, the baby already has his or her own unique DNA, with numerous traits, such as gender, ethnicity, eye color, and hair color, already determined. The baby&#8217;s heart begins beating between 16 and 21 days after fertilization, and brain waves can be detected by six weeks gestation.<\/p>\n<p>By seven weeks, all four chambers of the baby&#8217;s heart are present, with 90% of all bodily structures present in adults formed by eight weeks. At nine weeks, the baby has begun growing hair follicles, fingernails, and toenails. By 10 weeks, the baby can swallow, scratch his head, and form his hands into fists.<\/p>\n<p>Jones&#8217; ruling is a form of legalized discrimination.
