They know it isn\u2019t as \u2018safe\u2019 as they were told.<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Seventeen-year-old Holly Patterson died September 17, 2003, of septic shock resulting from the abortion pills she took.<\/p>\n<p>Holly had been given an alternative non-FDA-approved regimen of chemical abortion at Planned Parenthood.<\/p>\n<p>Her father advocated for awareness about the abortion pill following her death, including creating a <a href=\"http:\/\/abortionpillrisks.org\/real-stories\/hollys-story\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website<\/a> about the risks posed by abortion drugs.<\/p>\n<p>Video clips from Monty Patterson\u2019s May 2006 testimony about Holly and the abortion pill were recently <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LiveAction\/status\/1291760434530394113\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tweeted<\/a> by pro-life <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LiveAction\/status\/1291760434530394113\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">group<\/a> Live Action.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/sB8Hc7RGf5c\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are no quick fixes or magical pills to make an unplanned pregnancy go away,\u201d Patterson stated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy family, friends and community were deeply saddened and are forever marred by Holly\u2019s preventable and tragic death,\u201d he said. \u201cIt is my vibrant memory of Holly and her premature death that have inspired me to make the public aware of the serious and lethal effects of the RU-486 regimen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Patterson recounted with some emotion how the events around his daughter losing her life to chemical abortion unfolded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTwelve days after Holly\u2019s 18th birthday on September 10, 2003, she walked into a Planned Parenthood clinic to be administered an RU-486 medical abortion regimen,\u201d Patterson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy the fourth day she was admitted to the emergency room of a local hospital,\u201d he said. \u201cShe was examined. She was given painkillers. She complained of bleeding, cramping, constipation and pain. But subsequently she was sent home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Seven days after taking RU-486, Holly would return to the same hospital emergency room complaining of weakness, vomiting, abdominal pain, Patterson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHours later I was called to the hospital where I found her surrounded by doctors and nurses, barely conscious and struggling to breathe,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHolly was so weak she could barely hold onto my hand,\u201d said Monty Patterson. \u201cFeeling utter disbelief and desperation, I watched Holly succumb to a massive bacterial infection as a result of a drug-induced abortion with RU-486.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Patterson detailed how he spent thousands of hours researching medical and scientific journals, talking to doctors, legislators, state and federal agencies, to learn about the drug RU-486.<\/p>\n<p>Chemical abortion, or RU-486, also known as Mifeprex or mifepristone, is a two-pill process. The first pill stops the mother\u2019s womb from building up Progesterone, the necessary hormone for a pregnancy to thrive. The second pill, taken one to two days later, causes the uterus to contract and deliver the deceased fetus.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lRDnVSMr5j0\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Chemical abortions, also known as medical or medication abortions, are on the rise and poised to outnumber surgical abortions, now accounting for 40% of all abortions performed in the U.S. The abortion lobby has <a href=\"https:\/\/pregnancyhelpnews.com\/abortion-pills-by-mail-appalling-ripe-for-abuse-pro-life-advocates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pushed for greater access to the abortion pill <\/a>for some time and <a href=\"https:\/\/pregnancyhelpnews.com\/abortion-pills-by-mail-appalling-ripe-for-abuse-pro-life-advocates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">used the coronavirus pandemic<\/a> to press for less regulation of the drugs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe that RU-486 is the substantial contributing factor responsible for Holly\u2019s death,\u201d Monty Patterson told the House Subcommittee in 2006.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCurrently there have been eight deaths reported by the FDA linked with the drug,\u201d he said, \u2018furthermore there are 900 or more serious health consequences associated with RU-486.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow many must die needlessly before this drug is removed from the market?\u201d he asked at the time. \u201cWomen have been and are still relying upon what they think is truthful information concerning the limited risk involved with a medical abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYet does the average patient, a teenager like Holly, understand she may be risking her life taking RU-486,\u201d he continued, \u201cwhen she\u2019s repeatedly exposed to statements like, \u201cIt\u2019s what women have wanted for years,\u201d \u201cIt\u2019s the first FDA-approved pill, providing women with a safe and active non-surgical option for ending early pregnancy\u201d?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Patterson\u2019s words in 2006 foretold more deaths related to the abortion pill.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-offers-medical-abortion-in-defiance-safety-guidelines\/\">Planned Parenthood has offered the abortion pill in defiance of safety guidelines for years<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As of the end of 2018, there had been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/media\/112118\/download\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">24 reported deaths<\/a> of women in the United States associated with abortion pills. The FDA has also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/downloads\/Drugs\/DrugSafety\/PostmarketDrugSafetyInformationforPatientsandProviders\/UCM603000.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">documented<\/a> at least <a href=\"https:\/\/pregnancyhelpnews.com\/no-telemedicine-abortions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">4,000 cases<\/a> of serious adverse events related to the abortion pill, including more than 1,000 women who required hospitalization.<\/p>\n<p>While chemical abortion was being pushed via webcam in the state of Iowa, Iowans for LIFE\u2019s Board President Tom Quiner had written an essay about the issue in the Des Moines Register, which prompted Monty Patterson to write him about the risks.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Medical abortion can be a very dangerous procedure,\u201d he told Quiner in 2013. \u201cI know firsthand, I held Holly\u2019s hand as she fought for her life but eventually succumbed to a horrible and painful death.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy concern is not about the abortion debate but women\u2019s health,\u201d Patterson had said.<\/p>\n<p>The health, safety and welfare of women should never be compromised in the name of women\u2019s rights to access abortion, Patterson had written, stating, \u201cwomen need to completely understand the health consequences of this drug regimen to properly make an informed decision that is in their own best interest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>PHN editor&#8217;s note: Heartbeat International manages the Abortion Pill Rescue Network and Pregnancy Help News.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>LAN Editor&#8217;s Note: This article was published at <a href=\"https:\/\/pregnancyhelpnews.com\/holly-was-so-weak-she-could-barely-hold-onto-my-hand-father-recounts-losing-his-daughter-to-chemical-abortion\">Pregnancy Help News<\/a> and is reprinted with permission.
