Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas<\/span><\/a> announced its plans to open an abortion facility in Lubbock, Texas, after initially keeping the project hidden. <\/span>Planned Parenthood<\/span><\/a> has utilized this tactic before, discreetly building abortion centers within communities before the neighborhoods can voice objections. Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas operates out of 23 locations in the state, but there have been suspicions dating back to 2018 that Planned Parenthood has been looking to expand its West Texas abortion services.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Back then, an unnamed donor pledged $9 million in order to help <\/span>Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas<\/span><\/a> build two centers in West Texas. An additional contribution of $800,000 from a separate donor meant it was only a matter of time before the abortion provider revealed where they planned to open their newest location. Lubbock is an interesting place for Planned Parenthood to set up its latest abortion business, as the organization had a presence there until 2013, when\u00a0<\/span>Texas implemented a law in 2013 requiring abortion facilities to have admitting privileges. The Planned Parenthood in Lubbock at the time was one of the <\/span>27 out of 42<\/span><\/a> Texas abortion clinics that suspended its services after failing to comply with the basic safety standards of the law. <\/span><\/p>\n

Unfortunately, the U.S. Supreme Court\u2019s 2016 <\/span>Whole Woman\u2019s Health v. Hellerstedt<\/span><\/i><\/a> decision ruled that this vital protection for women posed an \u201cundue burden\u201d to abortion access.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Now it seems Planned Parenthood is making up for lost time by reestablishing itself in Lubbock.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While the <\/span>Charlotte Lozier Institute<\/span><\/a> has noted a slight decrease in abortions in the Lone Star State, 53,277 abortions were committed in Texas in 2017. Alarmingly, the number of abortions by pill (chemical abortions) jumped to 12,568 that same year. This represents an increase of 36% from just the previous year, and the Charlotte Lozier Institute found chemical abortions made up 32% of all abortions reported in Texas for the year 2017 \u2014 nearly one-third.<\/span><\/p>\n

Women deserve better than the increase in abortions the opening of another Planned Parenthood center will inevitably bring. While the group claims its intention is to bring \u201caffordable healthcare\u201d into Lubbock, Planned Parenthood offers women very few services aside from abortion.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Planned Parenthood\u2019s<\/span><\/a>\u00a02018 annual report reveals the organization as a whole performed 345,672 abortions a year and received $616.8 million in taxpayer funding, with most of their limited healthcare services seeing a significant decrease.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Pro-life Senator Charles Perry (R-Lubbock) is <\/span>encouraging<\/span><\/a> Texans to prevent Planned Parenthood from opening in their communities. Texas Right to Life has added to Perry\u2019s voice by promoting a petition to keep the corporation out of Lubbock.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cPlanned Parenthood, the nation\u2019s largest abortion provider, is hiring staff for a Lubbock location,\u201d Perry wrote. “…We need to stand strong and send a clear message that the abortion industry should not set up shop in our backyard. Unborn children should have the right to live and Planned Parenthood profits off ending their lives. This is unacceptable.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
