As the COVID-19 pandemic has led to a debate over the use of hydroxychloroquine to treat patients with the virus, one Congressman from California compared the decision to take a medication that may have the potential to treat a virus to the decision to kill a child in the womb. While this might be considered a Twitter “mic drop” for those who choose not to utilize critical thinking skills, abortion cannot truly be compared to any form of actual health care because deliberately killing a child in the womb (or out) is not health care.<\/p>\n

Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas took announced on Twitter that he had chosen to take hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for his recent diagnosis of COVID-19. “It is what was decided as the best course of action between my doctor and me — not by the government bureaucrats,” he wrote.<\/p>\n

Rep. Eric Swalwell of California shot back, “Wishing you well, Louie! And thank you for standing with millions of women who don’t want you coming between them and decisions they make with their doctor. How about this: you stay out of their doctor’s office and we stay out of yours.”<\/p>\n

But Swalwell’s response is seriously lacking insight and common sense for two reasons. First, abortion is not health care. Second, abortion is not<\/em> a decision that occurs between a woman and her doctor.<\/p>\n
