After being told that her preborn daughter had a rare brain condition called Holoprosencephaly<\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Gemma-Sarah McCusker<\/span><\/a>\u00a0refused abortion. Though doctors warned McCusker that her daughter had no chance of survival, McCusker refused to give up. When her daughter Karlie was born at 36 weeks, part of her brain was protruding through a hole in her skull.<\/span><\/p>\n

The doctors predicted that Karlie only had minutes to live, but in defiance of their grim predictions, Karlie pulled through and she is now three years old.<\/span><\/p>\n

McCusker was first told<\/a> about a \u201clarge mass on the front of the unborn baby\u2019s face\u201d during her 20-week scan. She had been hoping to learn the sex of her baby, but instead, McCusker was advised to terminate after being told her child had no chance of survival.<\/span><\/p>\n
