After learning she was pregnant, Isabel (name has been changed) was “confused” and unsure of what to do. She was living with her brother but would be homeless if she had the baby, and she didn’t know how she could possibly raise a baby by herself. So Isabel decided to have an abortion.<\/p>\n

She went to British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS<\/a>), which markets itself as “the UK’s leading abortion care service.” Ninety-eight percent of the abortions committed at BPAS are paid for by the British government (taxpayers) and BPAS commits over one-third of the abortions in the UK, according to the abortion organization’s latest report<\/a>. When Isabel arrived, however, she was met by a pro-life advocate from the Good Counsel Network<\/a>, an organization that helps connect women to the resources they need in order to freely choose life for their babies.<\/p>\n

“She greeted me, offered me a leaflet and I decided to talk to her,” explained Isabel, who shared her story at Be Here for Me<\/a>. “I was lost, I didn’t know what to do with the pregnancy. She asked me why I was there and I told her everything. She was like, ‘If there is any way I could get support for you, would that put you in a position where you felt you did not have to terminate the pregnancy’ and I said ‘Yes, if I am able to get the support, I do want to keep this baby’. So I was assured.”<\/p>\n

The Good Counsel Network was able to find Isabel a home and she was able to keep her baby. After her baby was born, the organization helped to provide her with baby gear and financial support — “everything I needed to start my life all over again,” she said. “Not just for myself now but for my baby as well.”<\/p>\n

Isabel said that if a pro-life advocate had not been outside of BPAS that day she would have gone through with the abortion — not because she wanted one, but because she thought she had no other choice.<\/p>\n

“Seeing my baby now, I’m so happy that I met someone that very day,” said Isabel. She wants to ensure that other women who are experiencing confusion and who want to keep their babies but feel pressured to abort have the same opportunity for support that she had, thanks to the Good Counsel Network. In the UK, laws like the Public Spaces Protection Order<\/a> are being put in place to prevent pro-life advocates from assisting women outside abortion businesses.<\/p>\n

“I know from my experience that when people are lost and in [a] position where they don’t know what to do, they really feel their only option is [to] terminate the pregnancy,” explained Isabel. “These [pro-life] groups come to people’s aid, giving them the support they need and let them know they have other options and don’t have to feel they are going to be forced into going ahead with a termination because they believe there are not other viable ways forward for them.”<\/p>\n
